I'll try that later this year when it comes due time. 850/year for a P MS....that's amazing.

I agree! Mine is a bit less for 6 months. But one vehicle, homeowner but not bundled in. Two drivers and no tickets. But I have a low deductible and high coverage which doesn't help cost

Had Allstate. They asked for like $1700 /yr. What???
Checked several, got esurance who is owned by Allstate , who offered 850/yr. Lol

All state and esurance were both way higher for me than Progressive. Almost everyone else was, almost twice.

Got an update today...

6/6: Ordered car during flash sale. Car located in Connecticut, I am in SoCal
6/7: Contacted by CPO advisor. Told timeline was going to be around 2 months due to location of car
6/11: Went down to Buena Park to test drive a P85D and met advisor in person (We needed to test out the next gen seats). Advisor told us car was already reconditioned so the timeline would be shorter than originally quoted.
6/19: Got photos of the car - it has a center console, score!
6/25: Notified car is in Burbank and that we would be transferred to a DS
6/27: Picked up my car from a service appointment at Burbank and asked to see the CPO. Got to look at inside as well as get part numbers off suspension to verify P85+ suspension (yay!). Car is dusty but looked good for a cursory check
7/5: Pinged Advisor again since DS hadn't contacted us. He told us there was a delay since the car didn't pass inspection when Burbank looked at it. DS contacted us after advisor forwarded email. Advised we should start financing process.
7/6: Applied for financing with Tesla and a local credit union. Got approved for 2.99 thru Tesla (TD Bank) and 1.99 thru credit union. Also got trade in quote from Tesla on our Audi. It was OK, but we are still going to try Carmax to see if we can better that a bit.

7/17 Finally got a delivery guesstimate from DS today. They think the car will be ready 7/28 at the latest. So we will probably schedule pickup the following week after that. So the very first timeline of 2 months that we were given is probably going to be the correct one.

Looking to hear from my guy soon. This is the first day in week 6 and I know the car is in the shop now this week in Seattle.
I stoped into the store in Portland and they said it still would be 2 days to get it down here after the service/ inspection then 3-4 days of detailng after it down here.. Such a long process! Hope they change that in the future so other don't have to go thought this.

yeah got homeowners with it too and got multicar discount plus all the usual junk they try and bait you with. decided to punish Allstate by moving my homeowners, only to have it basically back at the same company :)
but yeah they were afraid they couldn't cover the car at first. they said "M S's are worth too much, therefore ins companies don't want to cover." That's pretty telling. They wouldn't have any trouble with me paying for a coverage level worth more than my car though!
home policy was cheaper and better coverage though.

At this point I'm firmly where @TSLA_maybe was about ten pages of posts ago:

Crossing my fingers. Honestly, the excitement has been tempered to only slightly excited.

I totally understand this delta from being crazy excited that I actually put down the deposit to just being tired of this long drawn out process that no one seems to know when it will end. I've used the gap time to read every single CPO experience post on TMC and human nature is to focus on the negatives people have experienced. I've second guessed the purchase a hundred times at least. For sure I'm still excited to take delivery but wow the difference between five weeks ago and now is way different and I've read *all* the negative delivery experience threads...

My car has been in the 'finished with the CPO inspection, ready to ship' state for almost two weeks with no notion of when it might possibly arrive and no one seems to know. I've asked for pictures (still none) as well as the CPO inspection report (told it would be provided at delivery). It will be five weeks since I put down the deposit tomorrow. I leave for a week-long family road trip Saturday so if it can't happen this week, which is likely since I haven't heard anything, delivery will get pushed into August. /sigh.

Honest and prompt communication would make a world of difference. Is my local DS so busy that he can't respond to email or return a phone call? They don't feel comfortable saying 'we have no idea when the car will finish inspection/ship/etc'? How is the result of the CPO inspection not an internal email or two away? It really does seem like the service centers don't talk to each other as well as the regional CPO reps VS local delivery specialists.

Sorry this is probably the height of my frustration with the process. Several on this thread have waited much longer than 5-6 weeks so me complaining now seems a bit entitled. Today I specifically thought of when @TSLA_maybe posted the waning excitement quoted above. When I read that post (soon after I had ordered) I remember thinking how can he not be at peak excitement to be so close to delivery?? I feel like I understand this now.

I agree Seabie. First post for me - I placed my deposit June 11th and detail on the vehicle and timeline has been the same rehearsed talking points (estimate of 5-8 weeks for me). For a company that is so technically forward thinking, it just seems odd that the CPO program is run this way. Doesn't seem to fit the company model. To me, I sense a great deal of unknowns and uncertainty. For example, my local car has been in transport mode for 3 weeks (I guess that's normal? who knows??).

I don't mind waiting if the time is used to deliver a great quality car - just wish communication was better. A weekly update at the very least would help avoid the "lost order feeling".

This thread def. helps pass the time! Thanks

Communication and transparency could definitely use work. Nothing bad has happened (so far), but it’s like pulling teeth to get simple updates/information.

DS informed me last week that car might be ready for pickup this week (week 4 of 4-6 week estimate) which took me by surprise since everythng I had seen indicated it would be no sooner than 6 weeks. That being the case I quickly applied for financing, got insurance quotes and setup appointment with electrician. I then sent some follow-up emails to DS last Friday and Saturday, including one asking for information needed for the financing. Radio silence yesterday, so I sent a follow up email late yesterday. Silence again today, so I sent him another email early afternoon today, not only to get him to provide me with the information I need for financing, but also to see whether I should expect to take delivery this week. Both seem like reasonable requests the week you are told the car may be available. WTF?

In all fairness to my DS I just realized I missed an out of office reply from him last Friday and he is out on vacation this entire week. He did leave alternative contact info which I just used. Being frustrated that I’m not getting a response from someone that told me he will be on vacation: that is definitely my fault.

Someone from Tesla must be be watching these forums – I received a response from DS a few hours after posting this message, at 2am!

This. I have had to beg for updates. I sent a list of half a dozen questions 3 weeks ago that have not been answered after 4 requests. My lender wanted a copy of the title and that took multiple requests and 3 weeks to get. Finally we are at the point of scheduling delivery for next week (will be 7 weeks from order, with an original 4-5 week estimate). Too bad I'm just barely missing having it for a 600 mile weekend trip when I thought for sure I would be able to take it :-(.

When I spoke with my rep most recently, it was several hours after she promised a call, and she sounded hoarse and exhausted from being on the phone all day. And this was on a Saturday. They are clearly overworked, and yes, effectively too busy to respond to things that are not urgent. I've learned to keep my questions direct, bounded, and prioritized based on Tesla's needs and not mine.

I really need to get off these forums... every day I get more and more anxious about this process after reading about the experience others are having. Tomorrow marks 4 weeks (out of 8-10 week estimate), and as best I can tell(ok, guess), the car is still parked in the same lot it was the day I put my deposit down with no timetable of what's to come. Communication has been decent, but again there isn't alot of information shared. I'm starting to fear that at the end of 10+ weeks, I'm going to finally come in and not be pleased with a $50k+ car I'm seeing for the first time. Its not a good feeling to have as my original excitement has been replaced with apprehension.

Just heard from our DS. Delivery date of 07/28 looking more and more likely.

However, I had to do a double-take when the DS mentioned the payment for the car has to be mailed/wired in advance (due to being in Texas). Am I crazy to think that is a wildly unorthodox request? Seems I would lose all leverage at that point.

Have any of you CPO buyers been asked to do this? If so, did your banks have any hesitation?

Don't worry, this excitement comes back in an instance when you get your key! Its as if all the frustration and aggravation was never there. This is coming from someone that hates to wait after I decide on a choice. I don't want to wait months after spending months deciding to do something.

You may want to read up on buying a Tesla in Texas. Texas doesn't like manufacturers or distributors to sell directly to the consumer. I don't know time frames, but from everything I do know about Texas Teslas, it doesn't sound at all wildly unorthodox. One week actually seems short for what they have to do in TX

As far as the bank, mine gave me an express check from day one to use up to 45 days. No speculations, just sign when ready up to the amount approved.

I paid in advance in full for a used car I have never seen other than a few pictures.

That is unfortunately standard in Texas because Tesla isn't allowed to sell there. So feel free to write to your local state representative and complain about that situation.

The Texas Delivery & Registration Process

7/1 : Deposit placed for S85
7/1 : Received automated "Let's complete your order" email
7/1 : Received automated "Thank you for your order" email with PDFs attached
7/1 : Received email from sales adviser. Email indicated they would call the next day (Sunday) and that I should hold of on financing
7/1 : Responded to sales adviser indicating I looked forward to the call the next day and that the PDF sent via automated email had the incorrect price listed.
7/2 : Sales adviser called. Discussed the following: 4-6 weeks for delivery of car is expected, ask was prior to Aug 10th (5.5 weeks); Discussed incorrect price listed in PDF, Sales adviser will enter a request in the system to resolve discrepancy; Process: 200+ point inspection, Week 1/2: nothing will occur, Week 3/4: Inspection completed along with any service items, Week 5/6: Cosmetic issues address, End of Week 6: Delivery; Completion of items on Tesla website; Q&A Session
7/2 : Received email from sales adviser. Email replicated much of the phone conversation. Email documented the ask for delivery prior to Aug 10th. "Tesla Post Order Packet PDF" attached
7/7 : Sent an email to Sales adviser - Asked if the Inspection Report can be sent when complete; Asked if pictures of car could be sent; Asked if the car has 3G or LTE; Other misc questions
7/7 : Received automated email that SA is OOO until 7/11
7/11 : Sent an email to SA with an additional question - how long the delivery would take?
7/11 : Received emails from SA - Inspection report will be provided at delivery as it will not be completed until then; Will inquire with SC to take pictures but after the car is back from vendors (it's already at a vendor?!?!); 3G not LTE (can install LTE prior to delivery for ~$500)
7/14 : Sent an email to SA - Provided a response on 3G vs LTE; Inquired on the status of the car, price adjustment and pictures
7/18: Tried calling SA.
7/19: Called SA. Price discrepancy resolved. Car has not started the inspection process so the process is already behind schedule. Sounds like there will be increased capacity for processing CPOs starting this week so the hopefully it moves forward soon (with high quality). We plan to discuss the current status on 7/25.

Here's my 2 cents with this process:

6/10/2017
Deposit made on a 2012 Signature Red P85 with an advertised 24,000 miles and 2-year warranty

6/10/2017 to 6/14/2017
Received autogenerated "Welcome to Tesla Family" and "Road to Ownership" emails. The first email from my CPO advisor came a few hours after placing the deposit. I was given a 6-week estimate to delivery.

I also applied for financing right away as directed on the My Tesla website, but did not realize I was supposed to wait until closer to delivery. Thankfully, my early application worked out in the end, but to all other future buyers: DO NOT APPLY FOR FINANCING RIGHT AWAY!

I also exchanged several emails with my CPO advisor, Mohamed, the first few days. He would respond within 24 hours. He actually sent the wrong CarFax report at first, but quickly corrected this. Already owning a 2013 Model S and being familiar with the car, I made a few requests, but he pretty much said his supervisor said no to everything about which I asked. This was not unexpected, but I figured it could not hurt to ask. As an example, I asked for updated sun visors, a parcel shelf, to pay for the TPMS upgrade, and to swap silver turbines for grey ones. I was denied on each request and told TPMS and sunvisors could be done after delivery. No big deal.

6/14/2017
Vehicle in Transit email received (I never received an email saying my vehicle reached it's reconditioning location)

7/5/2017
I read in another thread that a local CPO buyer saw my car at the local service center. That buyer sends me pictures of the car, which are, to date, still the only pictures I have seen of this impending purchase.

2012 Model S Signature Cars

7/7/2017
I email a couple of the service advisors I know at the local SC and inquire about some of the requests I asked of the CPO advisor. They agree to some of my requests as part of the reconditioning process. I'm not going to disclose what at this point and will wait until after delivery, but I think I had a small advantage being an existing owner of a Model S and Roadster and being familiar with the reconditioning service center already.

7/18/2017
Phone call and email from the Delivery Specialist (actual title "Delivery Experience Specialist"). Delivery scheduled for 7/22/2017 - exactly 6 weeks from original order date.

7/19/2017
Finalized financing and paid non-financed amount via ACH transfer from checking on My Tesla website. Contacted my insurance agent for insurance as well. N.B., proof of insurance on my existing cars was good enough for my Delivery Specialist. I did not need to show proof of insurance for the car I am purchasing. In AZ, I am told you have something like 30 days after a car purchase to get insurance and they'll still honor claims within that period. Nobody quote me on this. Talk to your licensed agent.

Current status:
Awaiting delivery on 7/22/2017

I bought my Roadster as a CPO back in 2013 and it took about 5 weeks. There was very little communication (but I did get actual pictures of the car). Not much has changed. I bought my current 2013 Model S via a private party.

I know the lack of communication and long wait times are frustrating. I've read about some cases here in which the time to delivery is exceedingly and unacceptably long as well. For what it's worth, I tried in this case just to sit back and let them do their jobs. I was fortuitous in that another owner actually saw and took pictures of my car, so it satiated my curiosity and I reached out to some Tesla staff I knew with some requests. However, I had in my mind that I was just going to wait until that 6 week mark to ask for a status report. That said, I think asking for pictures during the process is quite reasonable.

I think I have a sense of why this takes so long. Tesla does not work with traditional dealerships, which would typically obtain a car, recondition it, and then advertise and sell it from their lot. Tesla gets a bunch of trade ins and rather reconditioning all of them and listing them for sale, they'll list the general specs and once people put down a deposit, they'll put the time in to recondition to high standards. I think this is actually more efficient than reconditioning the models they think will sell and listing them for sale (with potential quick delivery). I also think the parts issues mentioned elsewhere as well as relatively low number of service centers across the country increases the reconditioning time.

Communication could no doubt be improved - at least with information on vehicle location and general reconditioning status. I tried not to bother the reconditioning SC too much (and don't think I did other than my requests on 7/7/2017). They're busy enough with new car preparations and repairs.

I'll report back on inspection report, vehicle condition, and Due Bill if I find anything this weekend. The warranty is a huge piece of mind. I have full confidence based on 4 years of ownership thus far, that if any issue are found, Tesla will do their best to make it right.

Good luck everyone! You'll love your car!
