We ordered at end of 4th qtr (Calif) and didn't see many emails/changes to MyTesla until things started progressing. To answer your question, I don't believe there is anything to do other than make sure to check emails and MyTesla. The point about making sure any emails doesn't go to spam is a good one. Some of the delay between our emails and MyTesla page I suspect also was due to the work schedule of the people handing our purchase. That said we had a lengthy wait from Vin Assignment to going to Preparing for Production. Depending on where you are located and when your order is received will affect your production time. Also which model you ordered to some degree. Here in the states West coast people tended to not see much movement at the beginning of the quarter. Prepping of overseas orders appear to be given first priority as well as the high end vehicles. And then as far as the US is concerned they tend to push out cars further east first. Not sure where Canadian orders fall into the scheme of things.
A good place to get an idea of who, what, where and when orders are happening is the quarterly spreadsheets being maintained here on the forum. I didn't notice your username listed in the 2017 Jan/Feb/March or April/May/June ones so maybe you don't know about it. Not required you participate but nice if you do. It does help everyone see how the orders are progressing and is kind of fun to check in on. Just add your order and any updates to the appropriate quarter on spreadsheet (based on Advised delivery timeframe). Here's the thread post about it with link to it:
Model S Delivery Update
Kind of limited sampling for Canadian orders. I'm only seeing 2 undelivered Canadian orders listed in the current 2 timeframes: a 60D (CA/ON/Toronto) and a P100D (CA/BC/Vancouver). There was a P100DL (CA/AB/Calgary) delivered in February. There were probably more but people didn't post to the sheet.
