My non-delivery story:
1.) paid (wire) on the 18th
2.) on the 21st they said my car had departed on the 19th and was presently in TX and due to be in NJ on the 28th
3.) left for Curacao on the 22nd
4.) on the 28th checked with the guy signing for my car - he said he had no word from Tesla or the driver
5.) on the 29th checked with Tesla and they said the car was in NC (snow storms keeping it away?)
6.) on the 30th fly back from Curacao, leave Tesla cap my kids just gave me at security in Miami airport, find my title Fedex still covered in snow
7.) on the 31st hope to find my insurance guy so I can get the RMV-1 and the plates (even though I don't have physical possession of the car...?) no luck
finding insurance agent even though he assured me someone would be around before I left
So I'm assuming that I won't have to pay any 2012 excise tax?
Still waiting for word from the driver...
Bought a new cap yesterday...
/Ed
PS: DS emailed me within half hour of this posting saying the car is in Newark, NJ...awaiting further updates.
Was really hoping the car would arrive while I was gone because I'm getting after-market paint armor head-to-toe.
It is going directly into his garage to be armored...
Mine was reported as in NJ yesterday by a Tesla delivery specialist so maybe we're all on the same truck? I'll update the thread when I get "the call" - please do the same if anyone in the Boston area gets their call in the next few days. I got my EV plates at the RMV last week and my insurance is ready to go. 240V outlet gets installed on Jan 9 but I can use the one at work for now.
The RMV was a little confused and had to call the Mass Dept of Transport to make sure the price I had on my paperwork from Tesla was at least as high as the fair market value (not in their system). They didn't trust the bill of sale or That took about 20 mins of on hold and 1 min of conversation to resolve. The tax check paid to the RMV was 6.5% of new and appears on my registration under payments. So now any police officer looking at the registration can work out the cost of the car. I'm sure that will only make them even happier to give me a ticket should the occasion arise!
RMV: RMV in Leominster was easy. Went there to avoid the crowds. Took 20 min. Woman was great. Gave me EV plates. All good.
Winter Charging (outside):
Need to reiterate importance of a NEMA-1450 or similar to charge if outside in cold winter. Off an outdoor regular plug this weekend I drew just 12A and over 15 hours added only about six ( yes, 6) miles range; the 12A were just enough to keep the battery warm and to keep the car from losing range. To be clear, if I'd not plugged in at all I wold have lost range as the car sat overnight and kept the battery warm, and would have lost range with a high kW/mile usage during the first 20 miles or so. By plugging in, I started with a warm/efficient battery and made it easily across New Hampshire, Valley to Valley, 84 miles on a 100 mile charge. No problem. With my NEMA 1450 (40 A) inside at home and outside away in NH, the car charges beautifully, even at temps below zero last night. Bottom line: I would never rely on a regular plug to charge the car in cold winter, as it may help preserve existing range/charge, but may not truly add significant range. This, to date, is the only disappointment I have had. Will hit 1,200 miles today.
I saw your other post that said you had only 3 miles left when you got home. Wow, talk about range anxiety! I wonder how long before Tesla at least acknowledges the impact on the battery when it is cold and perhaps publishes information on the impact at varying temperatures. As your post here states the impact to the battery in cold temperatures appears to be one of the very few disappointments to an other wise fantastic car.
@EdA: so you've gotten a full armor quote? Details, please?

Hi - I'm a newbie to this thread... I have a reservation in for a Model S, but wanted to try to see one that is actually running/driving before "finalizing" my order. The closest place to get a test drive (until the Gallery in Natick gets is dealership license) is still in NY. I know it is a bit unusual, but if anyone who has taken delivery of a Model S wanted to show it off, I would love to see it and get your impressions of it. Thanks for considering it.
Fred,
welcome aboard. would love to show you my model S and, as ED said, there are lots of owners around the boston area willing as well. ED, when your car finally arrives we should reconvene the massachusetts tesla club to show off our new toys. i imagine the anticipation is killing you.

I'm trying to maintain an even keel.
Once I finally get the car this phase will be forgotten.
A colleague noted that it is like the 40th week of a pregnancy...
