Nightmare! (Supercharger queues)

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
There needs to be more stalls - and faster v3 stalls - on that M6/M74 corridor. Its still not an every day occurrence - yet. But it could be by next summer with so many more Teslas on the road. The problem is that because Tesla has the only reliable network it makes the brand the leading choice for people making longer trips which need these MSA charges.

So what we really need is regulation of the wild west non-Tesla charging infrastructure. Remove the multiplicity of networks, each demanding different payment methods and personal data, each with different levels of "don't care" attitudes to their kit slow charging or being broken. Make charging simple and reliable, whatever the car or network. Then we have the makings of a long term solution...

Hmmm, not sure. Only 10% the population compared to UK and land-area 1.5x as big. Although I tend to think that mountainous areas have roads "up the valley" which concentrates the traffic, and thus makes positioning of services more worthwhile.

But their sovereign wealth fund must be helping too :)

I had a look on Supercharge Info

UK has
2x 24 stall, 1x 18 stall, 1x 17 stall, and 10x 16 stall (permits for 2x 32 stall)

Norway has
1x 44 stall, 1x 42 stall, 3x 40 stall, 2x 36 stall, 2x 28 stall,
5x 24 stall, 1 x 22 stall, 16 x 20 stall, 4x 18 stall, 8x 16 stall

:)
I took a look at the data source you mentioned - supercharge.info if I am correct...

There are actually more sites in the UK vs Norway (105 vs 102) with more in construction (11 vs 3) and under permit (23 vs 14), so coverage in the UK appears to be much better than Norway...

However, the sites in Norway appear to be generally larger as there are 58% more stalls in Norway (991 vs 1562). The majority of stalls in the UK are at sites of between 8 and 12 stalls, so queues in Norway at a site should be less likely....

Take those numbers from supercharge.info with a pinch of salt. The construction/under permit entries are just publicly sourced info. Tesla's own map shows they plan to open around 30 new locations in Norway in 2023 and quite a few of the uk ones 'under permit' have been so for over a year. Brighton supercharger coming in 2030 at this rate.

Also, looking at the permits, both 32x sites have had no news since 2018/2019.

Was at braintree grid serve @ 10am today was the only ev of any sort,

I stopped at the Macon supercharger a while back, 'coz I wanted to see a big one ...
