Hi everyone,

We ordered on 10/1 and confirmed on 10/4. We are at Bay Area. Called the DS, she said looking at mid-Dec. We are traveling starting 12/20. And we want to get in 2017 in case the new tax bill.

Anything I can do from my end to push for delivery before 12/20. We ordered MS 75D Silver. Any advise will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kate

Are you planning to take delivery in Fremont? If not, you could switch and maybe save a couple of days???? But not sure you can do anything to expedite. Good Luck.

Yes, we are taking delivery in Fremont. Is it worth it to look into the new inventory car now? Or is it too late to change since the custom order is confirmed?
Not sure. But I would talk to Tesla. Your DS may have some insights. I originally ordered in the LA Area and I think I had a sales guy (not sure of title). After I ordered my car I then was assigned a DS (delivery specialist). I was originally told 6 weeks and in fact a lady in the waiting room that day was picking up her car and it was 6 weeks. Then after confirmation a few days later I was told that it looked like (based on production schedules) I could get my car in about 4 weeks (like on 9/28/17). I was surprised and then ask if I would have a better chance of getting it that early if I took delivery in Fremont (wanted the .99% financing which ended by Oct 1,2017) and he said yes. So I switched to a Fremont Delivery. I was then assigned another DS in Fremont. However, when talking to her she was not that helpful. I told her what the other person said about 9/28/17 (production schedule) and she said that essentially she does not like to predict until it is actually in production or something like that. Pretty sure she did not like the fact that the LA Guy said he looked at the schedule and appeared I could get the car around 9/28/2017. Anyway, after a bit my car did go into production a good week before 9/28 and we set the pickup day on 9/28. I then talked to the Factory Tour person who gave me the options of scheduling my tour for 9/26 - 9/28 which was confusing because my car delivery was 9/28. Which made me think my car was going to be ready on 9/26 but I was taking delivery on 9/28 but that is just a guess. My point of telling you all of this is because I really believe the DS in Fremont knows (or has a good idea) of when your car is scheduled to be ready long before he/she will tell you. Maybe if you were really nice and said I know you can not promise but I have this problem maybe they would try to give you a little more insight. Maybe?????

Unless the factory is shut down, there is no way an early Oct reservation isn't going to be ready by December 20th. Think about it, that means there will be 7 weeks of orders (I think thanksgiving is probably the deadline for 2017 delivery) not getting fulfilled in Q3. There is no way. Do you recall when your VIN was issued, I think production usually starts within 3-6 weeks of VIN issue date based on historic data that people gather.

Hi d21Mike, I suspect we have the same DS. That's exactly what she told me, until the car is in production, nothing she can't tell me. Sigh. Expect a better customer service after agreeing to pay $90K.

mattack4000, I don't exactly recall when I got the VIN, probably only 2 weeks ago. How long does it take from in production to finish?

Thank you all for your replies.

Based on the production tracker worksheet, you will see most cars are produced roughly 3-6 weeks after VIN issuance. Since you ordered at the beginning of the quarter, I am guessing they will start on your car before Thanksgiving!

What did you order?

I ordered a 75D on 10/29/2016. It was built on 12/13/2016 and delivered to Chicago area on 12/23/2016. I'd imagine the factory operates the same speed this year as last except I know some distractions are ongoing due to Model III which did not exist when I ordered a year ago.

Your DS will be able to tell you a lot once your car starts being built (whether they actually do tell you anything is the real question). I've found Tesla's communication to be spotty/poor.

I've definitely heard of plenty of buyers switching from custom orders to inventory but inventory is decimated right now.
