My Model S 60D turns 6 days old today. At the Colorado Springs SC.
If you have one of the new S60s perhaps you can you answer the question about charge levels: Is the car limited in how far you can charge it (say, 75% or whatever)? Does that mean that you can charge it to "full" each time you charge because you aren't getting close to the real 90% of the 75 kWh battery?

Just curious.

It charges to 100% not 80%. But it's hella fast all the way to 100. I get 110 or so amps from 80-100.

One of my co-workers sent me this text.....
Having a conversation with the twins about fast cars, sis says she wants a Lamborghini, I told her go to college and get a good job. bub says he wants a tesla...... I said how do you know what a tesla is? YouTube. I told him I rode in yours and he about had a heart attack. He said, your boss is so cool, omg he must be so rich! You know it would be my life dream to ride in one, can he take me? Lol now he hasn't stopped asking about your car.

The max range on the S60 is 210 miles in trip mode. It took me a little getting used to! Tesla recommens that we do not charge our cars beyond 90% on a daily basis (189 miles). You can adjust the charge limit on the phone app or on the charge screen. I picked up my car the day I was leaving for a vacation. My delivery specialist recommended I set the charge limit to 50% while I was gone.

Doesn't the new 60 allow for a full charge, since it's software limited?

You can adjust the charge limit. Tesla recommends that you only charge to 90% on a daily basis, which is 189 mile for me on my 60. You can adjust the charge limit to 100%. That last 10% is the trip mode or range...excuse my ignorant vocabulary. They only recommend charging to 100% if you are going to drive immediately after charging as they state it can permanently damage the battery if you always charge to 100%. What doesn't make sense to me is that this is the same battery as the 70/75 that can be charged further. I read on a forum the the cells within a battery could be charged at different levels, therefore charging to 100% every day is still not advisable. For me, it is a moot point as my daily commute is less than 40 miles round trip. By the way, the day I got my car I was leaving for an overseas vacation. My delivery specialist recommended I set my charge limit to 50%, allowing the car to charge only if it used enough power to use up half the battery, saving on electricity costs. Based on what I've read, I'm not sure that is correct as Tesla recommends charging even if you are away. Thoughts?

That doesn't make any sense. If the car is going to use "X" amount of energy it will be the same amount regardless of the charge setting. If it keeps it near 50% then you'll still need to use extra electricity to bring it up to 90% or whatever you want when you get back. Plus you have less reserve energy if something happens to your grid power when you are away.
I agree that the "100%" charge limit probably doesn't make sense on the 60 since it's actually not 100%.

I'll confirm that Tesla engineers are still telling their DSs to inform owners to only charge new 60s to 90%.

So yesterday my DS said she "wasn't sure" and until she heard otherwise were still saying to charge to 90% normally. I really don't think that's correct since the 60D is actually a software locked 75D. So a 100% charge on a 60D is really only 80% of a 75D.

That said,I charged to 100% last night, feels good man. Here's my new 60D with fresh tint.

How dark did you go? Let's see the sides.

Looks fantastic!!!

I can't wait for my 60 next week and interested to see what my DS says about the software charging if you will as well

Tint percentages : Back (5%), sides (20%), front (50% almost clear, just for uv/glare protection). Using S9 Rayno film (they didn't have crystalline) whole package was 583.00

Here's a side shot from same pictures.

That looks fantastic!

I'm going as dark as I can on my solid black on the back and sides in the back. I think in Texas they have a requirement of a certain percentage for the side fronts and not sure of windshield laws and I've never tinted my windshield.

Many have highly recommended it and will try this time.

So yesterday my DS said she "wasn't sure" and until she heard otherwise were still saying to charge to 90% normally.

My guess is that it's the safest policy to avoid confusion between different models. No harm in telling a 60 owner to charge to 90% regularly but possibly a problem if they mistakenly tell a 75 owner it's OK to charge to 100% normally.

So first some photos, didn't get a picture in the delivery bay as we were rushed out to take the tour last minute. So they parked the car just outside the delivery bay.

Was a great day. Uneventful drive down to Fremont (~3 hours), dropped off the one way rental, and then got dropped off near a strip mall with some food for lunch. We then walked (~2 miles) to the Tesla factory, which was rather warm but good to stretch our legs after all the riding in a car down. Did get some cool pictures as we came up on the factory:

The first photo was of the factory as we walked towards it from a distance, which I thought was kind of neat mostly as I would have never gotten it if I had driven.

Delivery was pretty uneventful, mostly as in some cases due to my obsession with Tesla has lead to me knowing things the DS did not know. Paperwork was really painless compared to all the other cars I bought. And the walkthrough from the DS was very quick, most of it was waiting while he entered the Slacker Radio login. But will say I was happy he was willing to take the time for me to go through my massive Google Keep checklist, that the Google Doc I shared previously on here was based on. A lot of the items seem dated and are not issues they've had in a while but was still good for peace of mind to check them all off and glad the DS was willing to go item by item with me to make sure everything was perfect before I left. Will indicate that for those with the 60/60D that the engineers are still recommending that they recommend not charging beyond 90%, which makes sense as doesn't create a bad habit if you move to a non-software limited battery and is actually better for the battery to hover around 50% charge for better lifespan.

The drive back was what I was the most excited about as so rare to have a legit reason to take a car over 100 miles right after buying without driving without purpose. And will say in the Bay Area there were a number of spots of congestion and slow traffic where it was a blessing to have AP installed. At the same time, if you haven't read it elsewhere on the TMC forum... AP is no excuse for not paying attention, there were at least 5 occurrences where I had to actively take control from AP or it would have easily have wrecked my vehicle. But it worked perfectly in the stop and go situations where I could really see AP being a godsend, thankfully not much of that kind of traffic where I live but will be great for whenever I'm down in the Bay Area or other large cities with such traffic.

Supercharging in Roseville was great, we basically went to the nearby mall to find a restroom and had more than enough charge to get all the way to Chico by the time we got back. Met another Tesla owner/wife and dog while we were finishing at the Supercharger. I kind of wish I'd realized the plug installed by my house builder was not the NEMA 14-50 as I asked so I could have more fully charged at the SC before heading back, but oh well. Hoping to find some public charging in Chico today while I'm out and maybe get some range added, but did manage to get over 40 miles of range off the wall outlet overnight... so over 100 miles of rated range currently. Worst case might drive to the Corning SC as it's only 28 miles away, and fully charge the vehicle.

But all in all a great day, delivery, surprise addition of the tour, and a wonderful drive back in the amazing new car :)
