Pacific Northwest Owners (Seattle, Portland, or towns/cities in the region)

It's been years since I've connected with the Portland group, but it was fun back in the day.

There is a "PNW" Tesla Owner's group that covers WA, OR and ID. Yeah, it technically overlaps the Portland group, but they know each other and are cool with it. If anybody is interested in the PNW owner's group (which don't compete with a forum like TMC; they are more about IRL events) they are HERE.

Oh, and I'm from Redmond WA. We own a 3 and an X. We've been owners since 2009; our past cars are detailed here: Which Tesla should you buy? A decade-long comparo: Roadster, S, X, 3.

The Portland group is still active, though fewer events this year than last year. Phil just started an events committee (yesterday) to get things happening again. I wonder if he's reading this thread?

I looked at the PNW group's calendar and everything on it looks mostly Puget Sound region focused. Which makes some sense, Puget Sound has nearly half the population of the region. I have thought about some kind of drive event with a meet up between the Puget Sound group and Portland would be cool, but the halfway point on I-5 between Seattle and Portland has a supercharger, but not a whole lot in attractions as a destination.

I'm here (Boise). Just found this thread. I think it just recently got moved into the Northwest regional section.

Yeah--Bermuda Triangle of lack of fast charging. I can't think of three and a half hours worth of stuff to do in Burns, OR to get over to Bend. My wife and I are going down to Reno for a concert in October, and we're going to take our gas car instead of the Tesla because my wife doesn't have the patience for over an hour of charging in McDermitt just to get to Winnemucca.

Yes, our thread was recently moved to the appropriate forum. Welcome to our thread!

Any (delivery) progress, @acarney?

Still no call... I emailed my delivery guy again about 15 minutes ago and haven't heard back. It either left Seattle and the shipping company did NOT call me before hand, like I was told they would, OR they're going to be rolling up sometime between 8 and 9pm (that seems odd), or most likely it's still sitting in Seattle....

Can't figure out why stuff like this happens. If it was setup yesterday then is it Tesla dragging their feet and holding up the shipping company, or is it the shipping company just totally blowing off this job today?

I suspect it's this. You will be pleasantly surprised when it shows up 30 minutes from now. Inspect it good to ensure no road damage occurred between Seattle and there!

So.... I should leave work now then? :p

Seriously, I half expect it to just be waiting for me by the time I get home... which I both want (I want my car), and don't want because I don't like the thought of it just chilling on the street in front of my house all day or something...

:confused:Are you not planning to be home to inspect the car?

Well.... I was told they would call when the car was loaded in Seattle and then let me know a specific time they would make the delivery. Seattle is ~4 hr drive, so I figured that would be plenty of time to wrap up stuff at work and head home. However, I wasn't going to skip work today since yesterday it was just left at "should be Wednesday, they'll call you to confirm!"

I have heard that with the 3rd party delivery (for people more than 160 miles from a service center) they WILL just leave the car at the address if you're not there... so I'm not sure what to expect...

Another Seattleite checking in. M3 LR AWD Midnight Silver.

Welcome and same ride here! White or black interior?

Hope it comes today and that you're home to receive it! If it does please post a pic! Rooting for you!! :D

A year ago we saw a truck load of Teslas in Washougal (western mouth of the Gorge). It was parked in a lot with some other trucks within walking distance to a hotel so I think the truck was stopped for the night. I figured they were delivering to someplace like the Tri-Cities. I'm surprised they are delivering out of Seattle, I would think if they had an intermediary waypoint Portland would make more sense.

I haven't been near that hotel today. If I had I would have checked for Teslas on a truck. :)

Wanna know the crazy thing? I was matched to the car when it was in Portland... then Tesla shuffled it up to Seattle and now is shipping it over to me in the Tri Cities! (From the start I told them I wanted the 3rd party shipment to my house option, so there was no need to shuffle it to Seattle thinking I was a local pickup or something. Having it delivered to my home saves me the hassle of flying into Seattle AND about $550 in tax since we have a slightly lower tax rate & it calculates based on where you take delivery :p)

Also.... THEY JUST CALLED! It’s on it’s way and should be here between 9:30 and 10pm!!! I’m shocked they’re doing it this late and not holding it for the night or something, but maybe it was my pestering of my Tesla delivery specialist that got him to request they hold to their Wednesday delivery schedule, lol.

Either way I’m glad I won’t be trying to have myself available all day at work tomorrow to leave if I need to get home for it :p

Good news and bad news....

I GOT MY BLUE ON WHITE MODEL 3!!! Guys showed up at 9:30 and unloaded the car. Unfortunately mine was the lead car of three that were loaded on soooo it’s COVERED in bugs. But a good look at it with flash lights and the exterior seems pretty dang perfect. I didn’t notice any rock chips or dents or anything and the paint actually looked to be very good. I did notice a small defect with the leather on the center console but being 4 hours from a service center I don’t think I’m going to fuss with it. I’ll document it and see maybe down the road if I’m near a service center what they can do, but I think it would be major work for something pretty small. I’ll post pictures later and get input from you guys.

Bad news... our electrician is turning out to be a loser. First he installed the 14-50 upside down even though I sent him the details and specifically said ground on top, now it turns out there’s no power to the 14-50. Cycled the breaker a few times but nothing. Sooooo he’ll be out for a 3rd time... or isn’t getting paid and a different guy will be out.

Car has 90% though and my daily commute is 8 miles, so I’m good for a little while ;)

More questions:

Since there is Regenerative Braking with the car slowing down when you take your foot off the accelerator, is there foot fatigue in trying to keep the right foot down all of the time? I am accustomed to taking my foot off the accelerator, especially on corners. Thanks.

Hi, all. I feel like an old-timer now. Our S is now over 4 years old, and our 3 is just a month shy of its first birthday.

Love seeing new Teslas pop up in my area. A teacher at my sons' old elementary school now has a 3. There's another new 3 somewhere near my neighborhood, and an X I see pretty regularly, too. My wife's parking garage at work has several Teslas. I think ours might be the second oldest there, but we moved up when someone else replaced their S with an X.

@RickW - No worries about foot fatigue. You'll adjust to regenerative braking very quickly. We were on vacation last week with an ICE rental and the lack of regenerative braking actually bothered me much more. I've traveled quite a bit this year, and I noticed that some ICE cars are really setup to freewheel more than others, and I didn't like it. There was so much more need to move my foot and tap the brakes rather than just let off the pedal a bit and let the car do the rest.

The leather defect might not be something ranger service can handle, but you do qualify for ranger service. Their coming out to do the Takata airbag replacement and fix a key fob that went bad next week. It's great to have someone come to the house and repair the car in your garage.

If you need a charge while dealing with the electrician there is a supercharger in Kennewick.

When I was in college in California I drove a mountainous backroad about once or twice a month and got to know every curve. I knew how to push every curve to the limit. I got a chance to drive it with my S in 2016 and it was 10 times better than I remembered. I went through about 20 miles of the most mountainous road without touching the brake pedal once.

Once you're used to regen braking curvy roads are a great drive and IMO easier than in an ICE.

I find I don't get foot fatigue when adjusting the throttle back and forth with regen braking. The only time I get foot fatigue is in stop and go traffic, but autopilot solves that problem.
