Pixel 3 on order - Special settings needed to work as Phone Key?

I have a Pixel 3 XL on order as my Moto G4 works poorly as a Phone Key, plus it can't be updated beyond ver 8 Oreo. I tried every suggestion I could find to make it work reliably with no luck.

Pixel 3 owners don't seem to be reporting issues with Model 3.

Do I need to change any of the stock settings on the Pixel 3 to optimize it as a Phone Key?

I have a Pixel 3 XL. Best phone I've ever owned.

I also have issues with my Model 3 when trying to unlock the car. It's apparently due to the way Android implements BlueTooth (per Elon).

What I've found is everything works great most of the time, but when it doesn't:

1. Unlock the phone
2. Try again
3. If it still doesn't work, open the Tesla app.
4. Try Again

Very rarely have I had to use my card.

I have a Pixel 3 XL and have had 0 issues unlocking the car without having to take my phone out. My S8 was also pretty good, but failed once in a while. It may help if you remove the phone and add it again.

Every now and then mine displays a notification to enable Bluetooth to use phone as key, even though it's already enabled. I think I only have to restart the app to fix it, so not really a big deal.

I have a pixel 3, not the XL. It works perfectly as a key for my model 3, I haven't had any trouble at all with it.

Thanks everyone for your replies. My Pixel 3 XL arrives tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out with Model 3.

Phone was $200 off, so I decided against ordering the Tesla key FOB and get the new phone instead.

You should not have any issues as long as you see the Tesla notification on your phone. The only time it's failed for me was when I updated my password and when the app updated. In both of those cases I had to open the app once and then it worked fine afterwards.

I'm using my Pixel 3 over my iPhone Max S because it works EVERY time. (There was nothing I had to do. Just install the app and set it up against my car.) My iPhone works most of the time, but Pixel is outstanding. It even works better for Summon than the iPhone.

I got my pixel 3 they day it came out. works great as a key, not a single issue yet. Had a pixel 1 before this and it only worked about 90% of the time.

My Pixel 3 worked flawlessly for a while then had lots of trouble connecting until 44.2. Been solid since.

That's interesting. I haven't had my car that long but I've read tons of posts about frustration with Summon not working. It's never not worked for me. I definitely watch it like a hawk though.

I have the Pixel 3 with no issues with my Model 3. One thing to note is be careful with phone cases as some can be too thick to dock on the phone charger. I've tried a few myself.
