Post Initial Problems with the Model X

I'm not going to make things up to make you think I'm being balanced :). The X I have is great. No one is saying not to post. At least I wasn't. I just didn't see a need for a database yet.

Exactly. If I have been waiting 3 years to get my Model X, I'd want to just enjoy it for now without having to read and nitpick about everything that is wrong with it. Let the owners have their fun now, there will be plenty of time to talk about issues .

That's really disappointing.

Frankly, it's incredibly important that early VIN folks report issues to Tesla so they can be corrected and fixed for future production. I don't see a convincing argument for those issues to be posted here.

To give the shorts less fodder, I propose that others - especially those posting issues with their cars - add a notice saying their posts may not be quoted outside of the forum.

Most problems that the early Signature models are experiencing will not be an issue on models delivered a month from now. That makes this thread useless to everyone except the TSLA shorts looking for more FUD.

or those of us on the list for an X wanting to see how the issues are sorted to make a more educated decision on when to jump into the fray.

Given that no one is going to be able to order a Signature at this point and any orders placed now won't be actually built for some time to come, I'm not sure if this makes sense. I think this thread makes WAY more sense in 6 months when we have enough of them on the road to be able to determine which issues are one-off problems and which are endemic.

That said, I certainly won't presume to tell folks what they can and cannot post. I'm simply not convinced of the utility of doing so at the moment.

So it has been 4 years for the Model X to start deliveries, we have had all sorts of comments and speculation along the way. Most of these were about when will somebody get one and you know the negatives ( no second row folding seats, falcon doors, biggest windshield I could go on and on). Now we have people waiting this long and we start on what issues have you had, the ink is not even dry on the contract or should I say on the computer. Let's give these people a chance to enjoy what the have waited so long for, as was stated above it will be informational to have this but maybe not quite yet.

Wow, didn't expect that this would unleash such an in depth discussion on the appropriateness of discussing problems. I am happy for it to sink into oblivion if it doesn't serve a useful purpose. A number of initial problems had already been mentioned in separate threads on TMC, the official tesla forum and the facebook page. I wanted to know what to look for when I pick mine up. I live over 90 miles from my SC and want to cut down on the number of needed trips. Hopefully this thread will be very short or not needed at all.

And for those who absolute perfection in your Model X, watch out for the pets paws and the children's shoes! Those ultra shiny smooth seatbacks and clean wheel wells surfaces look wonderful now. I hope you can keep them looking great!
For the life of me I can not understand these shiny black seat backs. What was wrong with the mat pebble finish seat backs on the MS? Hopefully they change this soon or I guess I will have to have the seat backs wrapped.

I'm definitely planning to wrap them if they're delivered in the current form. That said, I was also 'definitely' getting a center console for my MS, which I subsequently decided would completely ruin my vehicle. Maybe I'll love ogling myself in those glossy seat backs.

Great idea to wrap them. My detail specialist wants to wrap my rear headrests as he sees scratches already in the area that is hidden when they are up. I told him all the material will look fine for years as I don't transport those who damage the interior.

I visited Tesla SC and the detail specialists today and there is good news to report on both fronts. One of the reasons for this thread should not be to list a problem and drop it, but rather get the feedback and mention corrective activity. What Tesla Motors would offer to do in the regard of paint repair is NOT what should be done! If communication lines stay open and no one panics, you learn a lot about what is normal and what is not. The results will surprise you, they will surprise Tesla Motors, because when you hire the 3rd party specialists who do the aftermarket work on the Model S and next week on my Model X, you learn what even the Tesla SC doesn't know, because they either don't do it or the newness of the vehicle is unique to them. The specialists work with all makes, so they know what is normal with the materials that Tesla Motors is now using with Model X.

Consult Tesla for the mechanical issues but consult with the detail specialists for the interior and exterior care and expert advice.

And so not surprising coming from the likes of that guy.

Agreed. I've never been able to wrap my brain around people wanting to shout negativity from the roof top (Internet), particularly when considering the situation and context. I don't buy the whole 'for the benefit of others'. You can benefit others simply by contacting the source, who has always been open to hearing how they can improve their products and services (particularly when presented to them in a reasonable manner).

All I can say is note the hashtag on the tweet. Not #TeslaMotors but #$TSLA. Looks like he wants to spread bad news to cover his shorts.

I am disappointed by the common feeling that we must somehow bury anything that could be an issue with the X for now. All it accomplishes is that websites who are clearly biased against Tesla will own the conversation on issues with the car. It will also give them fresh ammunition to paint information from this forum as 'selective' and 'biased'. And on top of that it's a disservice towards fellow owners to be who might have a similar issue but without being able to get accurate help and information.

Those who just wish to enjoy the car can simply ignore this thread until they are ready to take off the rose tinted glasses.

Absolutely!!! As a Production reservation with a VIN in the low 300s, I definitely want to hear about what's going wrong with the early Signatures. And then I want to hear that Tesla has resolved every single problem (which is likely) by the time Tesla starts building the Production models. This will allow me to know what potential issues I should be looking for at delivery, and being mentally prepared for certain disappointments that we'll just have to accept (like poor visibility out of the rear window, no folding 2nd-row seats, no AM radio band, etc.). I'm sorry if stock shorts take advantage of these reports, or if current owners start to weep because they have to read about problems fellow owners are having. Too bad. Get over it. It's very helpful information, and many of us want to know it.

I love the outrage over nothing. It's so cute. :)

I will be updating the original post that has the list until the edit turns off. I visited Tesla SC and the detail specialists today and there is good news to report on both fronts. Thanks MarkZ for your honest opinion. Newbies like me only depend on the info from TMC. I will not have a chance to see in person a Model x in the near future, my nearest service centre is located 1160km and the nearest Tesla store 300km. I know more about X than the sales person in the Tesla store, thanks to this forum. I chose Model X as a family vehicle over an ICE vehicle. Sugar coated opinions and concealing facts have never been helpful, especially for long term outcome for Tesla. Better to be safe than sorry and posting issues right now is the right thing to do as these problems can be nipped in the bud. Will these problems influence me to bail out ….no not at all.
I will be more informed and not disappointed when I see a similar issue in my Model X. Waiting for 3yrs was for a good reason as Tesla wanted to perfect the end product and now is the time to fine tune it to perfection. Enjoy your new tesla and also explore and learn from its awesomeness and its problems. TMC has such generous members and its one of the best forums that I have seen, let it be as it is, those who wish to post their honest opinions should continue to do so as early adopters like me would learn from the feedback and the corrective action that was taken. Copyright what is posted. Thanks again for what you are doing.

I like how people are telling other people that they shouldn't be worried about initial quality problems with their $100k cars because apparently Tesla's reputation is more important. Should this forum not be a free exchange, good and bad?

That's just it ... no one is doing that. No one has been silenced. No one is saying no one shouldn't be worried. No one is telling anyone else they shouldn't post what they want to post.
