LOL! In spite of befriending each other last summer/fall, I just now saw this QC thread for the first time! Love your "spartan"/clean 3 ;)
Hey there my friend! Welcome to the QC thread!
I’m patiently waiting for my car to return to me...Friday was a sad day!

So far I've ran into a red and a black Model 3 charging up at the SC, anyone else have any sightings? I assumed both were traveling as I imagine people who live around here would charge at home as it's cheaper. I wasn't nosey enough to look at their rear plates, they didnt have front plates and both happened to be on very cold days so no hanging out to talk with the owners either. The black one did have the owner sitting inside, we both smiled and waved, that was cool. :)
The red was there when I parked and gone when I got back to my car.
This past week, Tesla brought some Model S and X down from Westmont and I ran into them at the SC as well. It was when it was pouring rain though so no visiting with them either!
I need some better weather so I can socialize with more people at the SC!

I posted this in the Off Topic thread but wanted to share it here as well.

In an earlier post over on the Model 3 Owners Club forum, I teased of an upcoming “project” but didn’t provide any details (seeeecrets)! I wanted to keep this under wraps until it was totally complete without any leaks (unlike all the upcoming Apple and Google products)! With an extended weekend for Labor Day, it was time to put my plan into action and I’m pleased to say that I was able to get it done and can now share with everyone. I hope you like it! And hope you don’t mind my giddy crossposting, I’m super hype!

Im very happy to reveal...

MY TESLA GARAGE!!!

Talk about an idea that sounds cool, but making it happen it took SO much more work than anticipated. I already knew this but this project truly highlighted the point that I’m way more of a creative person than I am handy! I’m old so I’m sore, I made a huge mess, had many runs to stores for things I forgot, I nearly quit a few times when running into road blocks, like the red paint needing TONS of coats (I think I did 6 or 7?) just to get coverage over some pencil lead math I’d done on the drywall. This was just a labor of LABOR (well, and some love...but mostly LABOR)! And still things didn’t turn out 100% how I wanted (I could nitpick it to death and point out all the flaws...the traits of my artistic curse I suppose), but overall I’m happy with how it turned out (for now). I wish I had a good camera to post a timelapse or a nice YouTube video but I don’t, and even if I did, I’ve never made one so I wouldn’t know where to begin really. I did manage to use iMovie and capture all the pictures into one video, complete with generic iMovie music!) which I’ve posted to YouTube, so that will save me from having to post 50ish images, and you from having to scroll...scroll...scroll! I’m sure the forum bandwidth gods appreciate this too. ;)

I do want take this time here to thank, and give a big shout out to Erik from the DÆrik YouTube channel for the paint color, the idea for the MDF wood as an option, and basically for the idea as a whole. I pretty much stole it, but not in a bad way! Promise! More in a “that is so awesome, I must have it!” way. I did add my own little twist as well, so there’s that. I’ll link to his video at the end of this post. I don’t know if he’s on this forum, but even if not I just want to say thank you to him and hope he (and all of you) like(s) my results. I do see a username registered so going to tag @DÆrik

Highlights:
- LED light strip combo pack was inexpensive on Amazon
- Illuminates the garage using a motion sensor!
- Tesla logo and lettering made from .75” thick MDF (medium density fiberboard)

Lowlights:
- Sorry for the repetitive iMovie music!
- I’m sore and have to go back to work tomorrow!! :(
- Not an original idea on my part. Other than adding some lights, I’m a thief!! (Sorry, I really wanted the same thing in my garage)

Here is a link to @DÆrik awesome video that made me want to do this:

I want to get this out there as quick as possible even without having more detail, which I'll post here as soon as I have them. I've been in contact with Tesla and they're going to be bringing vehicles to Davenport Iowa sometime in mid January for test drives, ride alongs and Q&A!!! I should know more after the first of the year according to my correspondence so stay tuned. Please pass along to anyone you know that might be interested. Any inquiries you have can be posted here or PM'd to me and I'll try to answer. I've already replied asking what models will be available, so I'll reply here with that once I know more. Sorry this is so vague but I just want to get a jump start on this.

More detail will follow ...for now this is what I have.

IOWA DRIVE EVENT!
Where: Davenport Iowa
When: Mid January
Vehicles: TBD

As an aside, I've been told that they have "several" Model 3's at the Westmont, IL. location "available and ready for delivery by the end of the year." So anyone looking for a Model 3 and the $7500 that was holding off or thought it not possible, please contact Tesla Westmont.
Make sure to use someone's referral code!

If possible, I'll attend and bring along my 2012 Sig P85 that just turned over 50,000 miles so I can show potential Tesla owners how well a Tesla can age (beautifully) after six years of driving enjoyment! She still looks showroom new :) And as a bonus, I'll have my wife bring the MR 3 in blue with white interior that we're picking up from Westmont tomorrow!

Some more details and some information I felt worth sharing.

I had Tesla come down like this before, bringing a Model S to my house. I grilled out and invited a bunch of people over who then enjoyed driving and riding in a P100D Model S! We really enjoyed ourselves that day. At the time, I didn't think much of it and thought "this is really nice of Tesla to do!", I actually thought this was normal and something they do all the time.

Well, I just looked back at my pictures for that and it was July 26th, 2017. Since that time, I've only seen Tesla bring a fleet back this way once, so my thought that this was a common thing was way off. That's prompting me to post this, bump this thread and basically say to anyone that if you want to participate, please take advantage of this. It's easy enough to drive a few hours to Westmont or Chicago, of course, but it's definitely rare that we have Tesla come out this way.

Another reason I'm replying is that I heard back regarding what vehicles will be available. Here is a quote from the response: "At this point in time, I do not know which vehicles we will have for the event. Assuming the event is large enough, all three vehicles may be there! It just depends on what folks want to drive."

So it really sounds like the more interest there is, the bigger this event can be. I would love for this to be as big as possible!

I was also asked to provide contact information from anyone interested in driving (name, email, phone, etc.) but I think instead of asking for that, I'll just say to PM me and I'll reply with the name and email of my Tesla contact so that you can strike up your own conversation. That way you're not posting private details here, messaging them to me (an unknown person) and I'm also not putting out the name and email of a Tesla employee for all to see on a public forum.

Let's make this Tesla Iowa Drive Event as BIG as we can!!!

When I first saw this thread showing up on the main page I thought maybe I'd gotten spotted.

Even if I haven't it still seems like a good time to stop lurking. Finally got my 3 LE MR a little over a week ago after reserving it way back on day one. The number of S and X drivers I see around the Quad Cities every day and threads like this were more than enough encouragement to jump on the MR when it got announced. I knew I wasn't the first 3 in the area but I haven't seen anyone else in one since I got mine so I'm looking forward to helping get a bunch of Teslas together.

I'll definitely turn up for a Tesla Iowa Drive Event if I'm able to.

Congrats on your new car!! And thanks for the post! Good to see more QC owners. :)

I received a follow up from Tesla about the Iowa Drive event. I spent some time on the phone with Aaron who let me know they’re looking at Friday the 11th as a primary date, between 11am and 7pm, with Friday the 18th as a backup (in case of weather or the like). I’ve actually not had anyone reach out to me about this opportunity (here or M3OC where I also posted) which is a little surprising ...but these are owner forums after all I suppose.

So far Aaron only has a few names down so I’m giving this one last big push to get more interest drummed up. I’ve copied Aaron’s follow up email with me today after our phone conversation which has his DIRECT EMAIL address and the Tesla Westmont location phone number. Please reach out to him (or me if you like) and please pass this information along to those you know who might be interested.

Wanted to follow up with our previous conversation about the Iowa Drive Event. Tesla will be at the Davenport Supercharger Jan 11 & 18 with our vehicles conducting demonstration drives.

I’m planning on being at the Davenport Supercharger tomorrow throughout the day during the Iowa Drive Event that Tesla is having. Not the whole day mind you, but off and on. If anyone is going to be up there at a specific time, please message me here and let me know! Would love to meet up. As it stands, I plan to be up there for the first time around 9:30ish to give someone a ride/test drive and let them keep the extra 3 months free supercharging by not test driving with Tesla. I know so far of roughly 12 people coming up throughout the day. I hope more make it!
I’ll have my phone and will be checking here early and often for messages.

I was hoping to make it down but my Tesla is still in the shop for body repairs. Sorry :\

Can someone from the Ames area (or familiar with it) support a fellow poster with some advice/feedback? Please see below.

Charging around Ames, IA.

Text copied from the above post by @danazhu
“Hi, not sure if anyone is still reading this thread.
We'll need to make some same day round trip to Ames from about 200+ miles away. I am wondering if anyone here is from Ames and can recommend some fast charge place? From what I know, there are a couple of charge points by City Hall and there is one by the Nissan dealer? Are they pretty available and how long does it take to get a full charge? What other places would you recommend? Thanks!”

Howdy all Quad Citians! Great news, there’s now an official owners club in Iowa! The official Tesla website just listed it last night Electric Cars, Solar Panels & Clean Energy Storage | Tesla and the point of contact (Paul) is asking for those interested to contact him with their desire to be a member. Membership does require a VIN (which makes sense as it’s an “owners” club) but does not cost (as far as I know). I’ve been in touch with Paul myself and am really excited about this! Hoping that this post will find more QC owners that would like to join and will help spread the word.

Thanks all and have a great, blessed weekend.
