Colour ordered: White.
Present car Lexus RX400h (hybrid) 130,000 miles.
Excellent choice in colour.I think the fact that you have to pay road tax on an electric car is unfair.Road tax should be free full stop. There are few cars really with a four year warranty.Never had a car before still under warranty when the first MOT is due ! Also no compulsion to have car serviced - no effect on warranty - over the air updates free of charge - BMW £160 per update per DVD for sat nav - Diagnostic charges start at £95 with BMW - so Tesla should be better.Should be a big saving on giving an open credit card to BMW service

The delivery specialist just listed everything and said he’d pass it on. I’ve not had any follow up from Tesla Birmingham over the last week.

The green circled items on the paintwork (difficult to capture on a pic I admit) show areas of fogging in the paint which are circular. I have about 10-12 across the car and have decided to get it independently corrected and a ceramic coating applied.

I went with high expectations my car wouldn’t have any issues and was disappointed. I’ve got over that now as owning and driving the car makes up for it ⚡
I had a few scratches as well but they were minor. Also did not have a charge cable. STILL waiting for a reply. Now my UMC is playing up. little niggles but hopefully will be sorted soon.

What is max occupant and cargo weight? - possibly on a yellow sticker inside drivers door reveal along with tyre pressures.

Could you also say what wheel size you have and what the weight and speed rating is, ie something like 96W

I'm particularly interested in max weight for 18" wheels, but also curious about 20" wheels. I know the info from the euro spec M3 at Heathrow which was on 19" - it was only 375kg which is rather low I think - someone mentioned their Audi at >500kg.

According to another website, Tesla supplied tyres have different weight ratings depending on rim size, and I was hoping that the 4 * 40kg extra that 18" tyres apparently have will give scope for 18" version to do >500kg.

@EV Guy

The issue that I have is that I’m expecting a perfect car, probably much like you and many others. So, if we end up with niggles, I’m just trying to get an idea of what is an acceptable niggle to get fixed and what is simply the normal level of build quality

Good thing you didn't order a S/X, am just preparing a write up of 26k covered in the X versus our Lexus, here a 'preview' of things that needed to be sorted on the X (£80k invoice price) at hand over/picked up 1st day.

1: Boot not shutting without alarm.
2: Passenger doot not shutting by it self (powered door) new motor needed.
3: Steering wheel damaged needed to be replaced.
4: Drivers seat 'rocking' needed to be replaced.
5: Very loud rattle from drivers A pillar needed A pillar rebuild.
6: Wipers not aligned.
7: FWD sensors not the most uptodate, prevented software updates, needed to be replaced.
8: Both sun visors rattled and needed to be replaced.

I didn't even bother to look at the paint work :).

All these issues were eventually sorted by Tesla, but if 'ALL' that was wrong with the car when you picked it up is paint work, than Tesla have stepped up with quality checks!!

26k later though I can tell you our X is the best family car we have ever owned, its actually our second X, the first was written off and had just ad many 'issues' at hand over as did our longterm insurance hire car which was a brand new X driven to us directly from the show room, but I would another Tesla without a second thought!!

First automatic.First Electric.Thinking about extended warty in year 4 £3k at a guess.

The car will be like nothing else you have driven, don't worry.

I've done a combined 36k in Model Xs over 2+ years, my personal experience is once the delivery issues are sorted these are very simple and reliable cars - am keeping our current X longterm, and have no interest in extending the 50k/4 year factory warranty.

The 3 is far less complex than the X, you really don't need an extended warranty.

Did anybody else notice insurance prices go rocketing up in the last couple of weeks, or is it just me...?

My quotes have gone from £1,200 to £2,300...on a SR+...with absolutely no change in details. For context, my Jag insurance is £1,200 already (London insurance is expensive).

EDIT: and that's with a £550 compulsory and £350 voluntary excess...if I take the voluntary off, my premium goes to £2,800...

I've got 9 years no claims, license 10+ years I'm 27 - £200 a year comes off the quote once I turn 28...this is madness.

I have just refreshed my quote from Direct Line which expired 7th June, price has gone down by £10.

@Dalphaon Thanks for the images.

Max occupancy and cargo weight is 25kg higher on your car than the 19” shod Euro spec at Heathrow.

Not as much as I had hoped. Based upon US spec tyres, I think there was potential to get above 500kg. Without seeing tyre ratings I can’t calculate max tyre load.

But it’s weight of another bag of sand in the back or my e-bike! Shame the top boot floor won’t take more than 60kg but I’ve bought tow hitch and ordered a bike rack. Might also be needing a small trailer - we have been spoilt by our Passat Estate.

Have all cars got the tow hitch access hatch beneath the rear bumper?

Anyone actually got a car with a tow hitch? If so I’m after the amount of clearance between tow ball and rear of car - assume it’s bumper at that point - my bike rack on order needs 65mm

Anyone dare to open the hatch to see if the pickup point is actually fitted - what about electrics ?

Our X is at 24k miles in 18 months. It has been 100% reliable on the road, but there were a handful of quality "niggles" to be fixed from delivery. Nothing too serious, but it was far from perfect. Our local SC was pretty good at dealing with all the niggles, but it is still not perfect in terms of panel gaps and trim alignment and there are a couple of new minor creaks and rattles to deal with at next service. I wouldn't be brave enough to run a Tesla for long out of warranty though, especially not an X. For example I would hate to be paying for labour and parts on a FWD issue (although in fairness they have been 100% reliable so far).

As for the driving experience and convenience the X is by far the best family car we have ever owned (and that is a very long list of cars from most premium and mundane manufacturers alike). I also think it's a myth/brain washing that other premium manufacturers have amazing build quality. I've seen plenty of issues personally, both minor and major. Tesla is certainly not the best at fit and finish accuracy, but I have no problem with the actual quality of materials - which I think is much better than people give them credit for. Certainly puts some of the nasty cheap plastics I've seen in Porsche and Jaguar to shame.

I've only sat in a showroom M3 so far, but it seemed like a very nice place to sit! Again lots of plastic trim, but all of decent quality from what I touched. The vegan leather is very nice too, as it is in our X and has proven to be easy to clean and crease free. Overall ambience was one of ultra-modern sophistication and simplicity, making a typical BMW, Audi, Merc interior look completely old-fashioned and pointless.

So I had no hesitation in ordering an M3. I can't think of any ICE competitor I would remotely consider against it.

I expect it will come with the same quick release swan neck ball that the X has, which easily clears my bike rack. Centre of ball to closest point on bumper is about 90 mm. Obviously dimensions could be different on an M3, but I doubt it will vary much if they follow the same design brief.

Just for balance :)

Reading the iPace forum its full of problem reports (as this forum is, so I read absolutely nothing into that, people with faults look to Forums for help etc.). Anyway, pretty much to a person they are saying "best car I have ever owned" and a number of their cohort are former Tesla owners. Amongst them are plenty who have had, and/or continue to have, problems, but they are still saying "best car I have ever owned"

maybe it is mostly the switch from ICE to EV which, as we know, is "glorious"

Oh for sure, simply being an EV is a HUGE part of the reason I love the X so much. But there are many other things I love about this car. I've only sat in an iPace and it felt a bit cramped and pretty ordinary inside. I much prefer the unique uncluttered Tesla interior, but I can see the attraction of the iPace. Having seen a few on the road now, I think the rear three-quarter view is a bit dodgy - looks very heavy on the eye. But I'd take it over an FPace any day simply because of the EV drivetrain. Zero chance I would ever trade our Model X for an iPace though!

I don't like the way the dash is angled towards you and all the shiny reflections it creates:-
