Radar Detector

I just described how I chose to install one. There are many other ways.

I prefer a radar detector that can Learn how to lock out falses with no intervention.

The only ones that do that are V1 with a phone app or an Escort radar detector.

The Escort 360 also has arrows like a V1.

It I didn’t have a V1 I’d probably have that Escort 360.

I've heard great things about R3. What are your thoughts on that?

It’s a good detector but I hate doing manual lock outs. Too much work and they go stale when portable signs move around. Also lockouts are a very wide frequency (lock out to much).

I want set it and forget it. Or else I don’t want anything.

If K band is not needed then I’d recommend an R3. I personally need K band. It probably is more risk than Ka because Ka is 99% highway and I tend not to drive that much over PSL on the highway. It’s country roads that have always burned me. Usually because of stupidity on my part.

Speaking of which having PSL on the map is really nice to have.

i'm by far not a radar detector expert. but I settled for the Radenso Pro M. reason being is from what I read it's almost as good as the R3 but has the best blind spot filtering which I thought might be important with our Tesla's.

Stopped using a detector years ago. Waze is all I need.

Waze is great for traffic alerts and police locations... I always run it on the main screen browser with a radar detector

The Tesla’s don’t use Radar for blind spot monitor just camera and ultra sonic, I wish they did use radar because I find it doesn’t work that great. In particular, most cars with radar based blind spot monitor (most are) also have cross path detection in reverse. Which I miss dearly on my Jeep. One of the very few things I miss.

But yes, the Radenso is noted for good blindspot filtering. But I don’t think it automatically locks out fixed K falses. You need to do those manually.

V1 is fairly good too at blindspot filtering.

Power; from Model 3 Radar Detector Hardwire:

Yes.

See particularly Jon Osborne's videos (Radar Detector wiring options) for dash and A pillar hints; also one other guy I can't think of at the moment. (Search around a bit for A pillar, footwell disassembly, etc. There's also a third guy who has done several videos that seem to be entirely focused on removing interior panels -- try searching on "remove trunk liner tesla model 3" on youtube.)

Watch @Ingineer's related videos thoroughly.

The dashcam folks are the ones who have done most of the complex routing and panel removal, so search on that more than on radar. There's probably slightly more substance to be found on M3OC than on TMC; maybe 60/40. Search both.
