Hi, Folks//

Curent car - 2018 XLR 100d - maybe 43k miles. In pretty good shape. Actually, pretty nice. Ordered XLR Blue/Black 20" on 29 January 2021. Have delivery scheduled for this Saturday (June 4th) at high noon in beautiful (!) Renton, WA. I've been with you guys for a long time and have gone through the heights and depths of whatever it is we're all going through.

Was stressing about the trade in value and had some serious difficulty getting the photos to Tesla. Just replaced my MacBook and the email is really messed up. Finally got the photos in (used a ten year old MacBook that I fortunately kept) and received my trade in value. Was sorta hoping for maybe $80k - dreaming, I guess. But... Anyway they came back with $77.6k, which I accepted. So, I'm getting my new Blue Bat for $24k. I'm happy.

Had the Bat washed and actually vacuumed the inside. Pulled the WeatherTech mats and had them pressure washed. They're going into the new X. Based on some advice given here I'll leave the mats in the car and put the old WeatherTechs on top. Hoping for some sound attenuation. Took the advice of someone else here and bought those gizmos that fit between the seats and the center console. They'll be winners. Also bought one of those aluminum fob holders thingies - it'll arrive tomorrow. So, generally I'm OK.

Now I have to get some bucks to Tesla. Seeking advice here. They suggest Plaid. Plaid wants my banking credentials and I am seriously not going to do that. I'd have to change account numbers and other credentials afterwards. Is there any way I can do an ACH to Tesla without giving up personal information? Is there any reason why they can't give me their account credentials and allow me to drop some bucks on them? I may have to bite the bullet and give then a cashiers check. Probably the safest way.

Any suggestions?

Bob
Plaid is totally safe for accessing your banking. Tons of services use it to do one time auths.

You can also do a bank wire. The wire instructions are given in your MVPA. This includes Tesla’s bank account information.

I did get a vin last week and the delivery date was mid June. But I have a business trip that it’s very hard for me to take delivery until beginning of July. So I went to the store the same day and talked to a delivery guy, who helped put my order on hold until July 1st. I just went to the store again and talked to the same guy. He told me that my order got flagged, which is normally for orders with long hold or rejected delivery. But my hold was just 1 week until now. He said it’s probably that my order date was long ago, for which they don’t allow for long hold. He said recently placed order can get up to 90 days hold. But my order date was end of Aug 2021, which is a “like new” one comparing to folks in this forum. The only possibility I can think of is that Tesla is playing tricks to cancel orders with old prices as much as possible, excepting that Tesla simply being irrational.
Well that stinks. It's probably about the money. Is there any way you could swing paying for the car in its entirety now? Do that, and maybe the store will hold it for a couple of weeks on their lot until you can pick it up. Not ideal, I know, but it's one way to do it. You could talk to the store guys and ask them to give it a thorough once over after it comes in like they're inspecting it for you and take care of any issues while you're still out of town. Or, maybe you could have someone stop by an look the car over after it comes in and have them flag any manufacturing deficiencies and then they fix it and you sign the forms after you get back.

I doubt this will work, but maybe the guys at the store can do something like that to basically store the car for you a couple of weeks until you're back in town. Another option is to ask them to deliver it to a store near where you'll be on your trip and take delivery there. They offered to do that for me once back in 2017.

Just some food for thought, again, don't know if any of it is possible.

Thanks a lot for trying to help. Based on the chat, I feel like it’s either take it or they’ll cancel it situation. I can only hope it will take several weeks to match another vin and deliver the car to the store. Otherwise, I probably have to fly back to pick up the car and and then leave the same day to continue my trip. Luckily it’s a domestic location which allows the feasibility of a crazy same day round trip.

Elon is becoming increasingly erratic in his communications. I am concerned for his mental health, my two Tesla vehicles and my investment in Tesla. When he eventually melts down, is Tesla too big to fail?
He's on the spectrum, so I keep giving him passes. But yeah if something happens to Elon, Tesla will start operating similar to Apple when Jobs left. Which is an embarrassment of riches already. But Elon will be fine.

Im following this discussion because I put my order on hold yesterday, through the end of June, because of travel plans. I called customer service within a few hours of being vinned and there was no pushback and rep was able to complete the process quickly, including removing vin. She didn’t know of a time limit for the holds but did mention getting flagged if it’s too long. I now have a blue button in my account which says ‘I’m ready’ but I don’t plan to press it until the very end of the month because I don’t want an eoq rush, etc.

Now I’m slightly concerned about getting flagged because my odd is January ‘21 and my price is almost $30k below current. I’d be super bummed to lose this order as there’s no way I could afford this car at the current price. It’s a dilemma because I can’t practically take delivery this month and If I remove hold too soon, I have a feeling I’ll get re-vinned before eoq.

Because your car is in or destined for Chicago, maybe that’s more of a logistical problem for them vs in my case, I can pick up directly from Fremont and I put the hold on almost immediately after receiving vin.

As with many things Tesla, getting flagged and/or canceled probably depends on who you’re dealing with and other unknown circumstances.

Edit: I looked back in thread and saw they warned you about getting flagged. I guess I’ll just accept whatever happens in that case, including taking delivery this month if I really have to.

Just got vinned. Wondering how long is it to get vinned then get the MVPA? Doesn't show in my account. I need it for third party financing. Thanka
I got my VIN on Monday 5/16, I didn’t get my MVPA until Thursday, so 3 days. My car build date was the day after I got my VIN.

I had texted them asking my build date on that Wednesday, and they said the car was still in production so they didn’t have all of the details yet.

Apple's is doing better today then they ever have, so there is that. Perhaps more boring, but better managed and from what people say a better place to work.
