I just realized that they are going to be releasing the source code. Not right away mind you, but third party support means the source code will get released.

You mean third parties writing apps for the Model S platform?

It could also be that they are just releasing some API's and a SDK without all the source code.

They did say 3rd party support. That in general means that either 1)SDK or 2)Source Code or both.

I'd bet on SDK rather than source.
