Russia/Ukraine conflict

I wonder whether Tesla can - and if it could, would it be an appropriate act - do as SpaceX does with Starlinks and geofence-disable any Teslas brought into Russia in contravention to sanctions?
I think this is not possible in the current version of the software. But nothing prevents from hiding this feature in the next software updates. Most of the cars are imported from China (90%) In fact, there are no violations of the sanctions.

Nice article by Foreign Affairs. They explain how Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries are very effective and do not raise gasoline or other refined oil product prices worldwide. They reduce Russia’s ability to turn oil into refined products so with less domestic refining capacity, Russia exports more of its crude oil which actually pushes global prices down.

They site the Ukrainian strikes as decreasing Russia’s refining capacity by up to 900,000 barrels per day. They note Russia exported a bit over 712,000 tons of diesel and other petroleum products in the last week of April, down from more than 844,000 tons in the same week in 2023 but that crude oil exports increased by 9% from February to March.

Putin has thus far been careful to shield Russian consumers from directly paying the price for this but Russia most certainly is. Wholesale gasoline prices are up 23% between the end of 2023 and mid-March and wholesale diesel prices are up 47% over the same time span. Either oil companies are forced to earn narrower margins under Kremlin diktat or Putin raised public fuel subsidies. Either way, this eats up lots of money for their war machine.

Why Ukraine Should Keep Striking Russian Oil Refineries

during the Vietnam war, when I came of age, (around late 1950's to mid 1970's) when over 500,000 of my compatriots died for the hubris of the leaders, (Lyndon Baines Johnson, president of the US, literally laid his dick (penis) on a table and said his was bigger than Ho Chi Minh's) 8,000+ miles away, and 1,000,000's of Vietnamese, Laotians, Cambodians and others died, maimed, poisoned, for _nothing_

things were great for the rest of us back in the states, economy great, vacations taken etc.

it is also possible to lie to yourself, until they come for _you_ with a gun and perhaps a uniform
How many of your age compatriots are no longer around? just ?missing?
Sounds like Johnson and it may have been true but likely his brain wasn't

For those of you chatting with our Russian guest, keep in mind that rather than his motives being sinister, he may be here to learn personally how the war with Ukraine is really going. Him posting here is certainly a lot easier than avoiding Russian internet censors and enforcers. That is until the TMC URL is blocked.

Entirely possible. There are potentially additional good faith motives among diverse posters and reasons to hear out sometimes contradictory positions. But always good to vet new posters, particularly those presenting information that may be self contradictory and/or contradictory to established evidence.

Otherwise, most welcome to hear from more local persons.
