Russia/Ukraine conflict

Su-57 seen over Ukraine. Unclear if military combat, or testing role.

Russia is only known to have 5 or so of these, would be so bad-ass for a few of them to get taken down by Stingers and other heat-seakers.

Playing nice with a bully never works (and sanctions are playing nice). They only understand an ass kicking. This won't end without NATO entering the conflict. They can wait until Ukraine is completely destroyed and there are massive casualties and a radiation leak, or they can do it now (which is already at least a week too late).

Like many in this thread I've been following the Russia-Ukraine conflict closely, mainly via Twitter. I've found the following Twitter accounts to be very informative, so maybe they are useful to others:

Military developments (mainly videos and reports from the field, with a lot of overlaps):

Sadly I think you may be right. If not engaging before, crossing any line should result in immediate and harsh action. If Belarus sends troops, then the logic of a NATO country that borders Ukraine staying neutral goes out the window.

Neon production significantly impacted by the war, could slow chip manufacturing if it continues.

Unbelievable if true. Russia attacks a village and is willing to kill people in Belarus, pretending to be Ukraine, to draw them into the war against Ukraine.

These kinds of false flag operations are pretty much SOP for Russia. They want to broaden the conflict to bring in Belarus because they can't easily add more of their own troops without raising eyebrows at home ("but sir, if the war is going well, why do you need more conscripts?").

Belarus entering, however, increases the risk of NATO joining the fight. And if that happens Putin cannot win a conventional war.

Wonder if it would be less of a mess with so much shady back-scratching - saudi arabia, taiwan, turkey, syria, yemen, venezuela, ..., it gets more complicated than a game of Go. Dependency on shady operators is really complicated. Wonder if they could just go cold turkey on Russia sanctions, negotiate a deal with China without sacrificing Taiwan ...

The restrictions have gotten much bigger. They are even monitoring virtual currency:
" New guidance by the Department of Treasury to Thwart Sanctions Evasion, including through Virtual Currency. The Department of the Treasury, through new guidance, will continue to make clear that Treasury’s expansive actions against Russia require all U.S. persons to comply with sanctions regulations regardless of whether a transaction is denominated in traditional fiat currency or virtual currency. Treasury is closely monitoring any efforts to circumvent or violate Russia-related sanctions, including through the use of virtual currency, and is committed to using its broad enforcement authorities to act against violations and to promote compliance. "

This is great news for the fight against burning fossil fuels. Painful for some but sometimes we need pain to get gain. (sorry my attempt at poetry)

Is Russia testing the stealth fighter in order to carry out reported "false flag" operations without anyone knowing the source? I mean...that's pretty much what stealth fighters are good for these days since conventional warfare between superpowers is off the table.

Since Soviet Union/Russia has never designated official nicknames for their military aircraft, it fell to NATO to give Su-57 a good one and this stealth fighter is called "Felon". Amazing. I've heard that even in Russia, they informally refer to their own aircraft by the NATO designations because who the hell is going to slowly say "Su-57" on the radio?

Could be. But by all reports their "stealth" is not even as good as the Chinese J-20, and forget about it being close to a F-35 or F-22. It's visible on radar, just harder to hit than their traditional craft.

For a change, I think the West's information war has gone well to date. They have telegraphed major events that Putin was planning, and I think calling out a potential "false flag" event was a good call.

Regardless, if Belarus was to start their invasion it was rumored to be at 9PM local time. We are past that, anyone have any news?
