How did the UAW react to GM's "Spark", which is a fully Korean-made car; the only differences in the US version are little tweaks like extra air bags?

Difference is these are mainstream models GM is talking about importing from China.

Only large Crossovers will be made in the US for Buick .

Small and Medium crossovers and small, medium, and large sedans from China.

The Chinese love the Buick brand and historic styling like port holes. It is "the Emperor's car." China's last Emperor liked collecting Buicks.

Tesla is about to open the 500th supercharger. Would be interesting to see if they will be holding any type of ceremony, similar to 100th supercharger ceremony held in April of last year at the Hamilton, NJ supercharger...

Governors Conference features Tesla speaker

The Department of Business and Industry will host the annual Governor’s Conference on Business Aug. 25 at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. The event will feature a Business Resource Expo, three morning breakout sessions, a business pitch competition and an all-conference luncheon featuring a special guest speaker from Tesla.
Gov. Brian Sandoval will be joined by Diarmuid O’Connell, Tesla’s vice president of business development, and O’Connell will formally introduce the company and speak about its plans and what that means for the state, local communities and businesses.

Funny, the Yahoo news feed lists a new start up to challenge Tesla, BMW to challenge Tesla and Audi to challenge Tesla. I sense a theme.

Same here, I sense a theme.

Here are some quotes from the above mentioned articles:
1. New start up to challenge Tesla (link)
Even if everything goes well, StoreDot’s batteries wouldn’t be ready for commercial electric cars for at least another five years.
-> Not an issue for Tesla short to mid term.

2. BMW to challenge Tesla (link)
“There is space if you look at it from the number point of view,” BMW CEO Harald Krueger told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung when prompted about new models in the pipeline.
BMW CEO Krueger did not mention all electric power train for an i5, this is only rumour.
The rumour says that BMW aims for an 225php electric engine and 400km range for a BEV. I have the impression that a hybrid or range extended EV would fit current BMW strategy better, pure BEV does not. A long range BEV from BMW would be a paradigm shift. The rumour says that the hybrid aims for 400php combined power, no infos about range. Vehicle is said to not use carbon fiber to the extent as the i3/i8 do. The vehicle class is said to be comparable to a BMW 3 series, thus a lot smaller than a Tesla Model S. Price is said to be a top of the line (400php) BMW 3 series +5000,00EUR. Release date is said to be mid 2019. Some more details about the rumour from AutoBild.
Kruger said on August 6th (AutomotiveNewsEurope):
"There is space if you look at it from the number point of view," Krueger told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung when asked if he was planning new models. Krueger said he could not give any more details at present.
Same quote from Krueger from Reuters.

-> Not an issue for Tesla short to mid term.

3. Audi to challenge Tesla (link)
The display car is equipped with three electric motors and includes movable components at the front, side and rear to improve aerodynamics and extend the driving range. The E-tron concept is a precursor for an electric sport-utility vehicle that Audi plans to start producing in 2018.
So three more years of waiting for Audi's long range BEV (and maybe in three years we'll realize again that there is nothing but a press release and no vehicle at all?!).

-> Not an issue for Tesla short to mid term.

BTW only competition I currently see is from companies like Renovo (nice, worth a visit;) ), but they only want to sell high price and very low volume, and companies like Foxconn, but they only want to build cheaper cars for the chinese market.

Yeah, all just concepts and ideas, nothing really with substance to it. See it more as a compliment towards what Tesla has achieved. Also no serious competition from Aston Martin:

Production will be in the hundreds annually, and none of the Rapide’s components will be shared with any Mercedes, which owns 5 percent of Aston Martin and is currently developing engines in conjunction with Aston.

While it’s too early to confirm powertrain specifics, Palmer did reveal his eye-watering expectations for the Rapide: all-wheel drive, around 800 hp and a 200-mile range.

Only "advantage" over Model S is 5% more hp - and that is in two years from now at the best.

And as I type, this appears on Forbes: http://www.forbes.com/sites/neilwin...-lead/?utm_campaign=yahootix&partner=yahootix
If Tesla Motors shareholders are getting impatient because of the delays to the Model X SUV launch, they ought to stop worrying because Audi has reminded them today that they are at least 3 years ahead of the opposition.

Couldn´t have said it better.

Oh, and the Audi will have a sliding spoiler and a camera in place of the outside mirrors - wonder where they got that from...

It looks like the 500th supercharger was slated to be the one in Norfolk, but the ceremony was cancelled due to accidental death of a worker.

I think the big risk right now is still the lack of information on the actual production ramp of the Model X.

The GCR article pointed to a source, which may be Eds or Eds's source that indicates that Tesla has hand built parts to build up to 1,000 Model X's on hand. But it isn't clear if that's 1,000 for the 2015, 1,000 for the Q3 launch, and so forth. Obviously, if it is 1,000 for 2015, we're in for significant disappointment. If it's 750-1,000 for Q3, we still don't know what the numbers look like for October and November. I'm afraid we're in for some short term excitement for Model X configurator, Model X launch, and PowerWall availability, then the crushing reality of production numbers.

Of course, there's still the risk of people not liking the Model X finished product. I think it is a small risk, but a risk nevertheless. If the cancellation rate of reservations is higher than we assume, then that will be a short term effect. A substantially higher price point than expected would have the same effect.

As a result, options plays right now, especially at this stock price seem to be even more like gambling than normal.

audi is setting itself up as a joke
1. you have two, we will do three motors. which company will do 4 motors first
2. better range than the model X. are they testing one now? do you think tesla gave them a car to drive? not even released yet but they know the range
3. they keep announcing over the years future electric cars that never get released.

And in the end, range doesn't mean a thing if there's no Supercharging network to support it...
