I have the Base AP, and it can handle 80% of my 26 mile ride to work. Almost as good and a whole lot cheaper!

Source: Personal experience. I have purchased FSD a long time ago. I assume no one questions that there are thousands and thousands of people who did the same. This qualifies as “many”.
