Drove by the former Kemp auto museum that Tesla is converting to their St. Louis facility and demolition of the out building has begun. The entrance was blocked so I didn't look inside the main building.

It’s been 5 months since the first post about the new location but I stopped by today to take a look because I happened to be driving past. I have to say I’m disappointed, it looks like there is still a lot of work to be done. I walked all the way to the front doors but I couldn’t tell if there has been any work done inside. There is a sort of entry way and then more doors to the interior and I couldn’t see in but there were a bunch of tools and garbage inside the doors. I had never visited the museum when it was operational but this space is huge compared to the current facility, plenty of room for sales and service for the entire city for now at least. I took some pics but sorry they are so dark, it was dusk. All things aside I think this will be a great location for Tesla.

Had nothing to do today so I drove over to check on any progress. Wish I could say there was a lot of activity, sadly it looks like there is no construction taking place. Bummer. But if they ever finish it and it opens it'll be a fantastic site. From where I live in the Belleville/Swansea area it's about a 38 mile drive. Traffic on I-64 during rush hours could be brutal but welcome to St Louis. I went round trip in about 75 minutes on a Sunday with almost NO traffic or accidents.

I wonder if they have halted projects like this until they show profitability, this has to be a large expense. There still appears to be a lot of work to be done to the exterior, at the very least a new paint job. I can’t believe they are still functioning out of University City and deliverying Model 3s!

I drive by there periodically on my way to church and nothing ever seems to change now that the lot is done. When i went to test drive a Model 3 to curb my appetite while we wait for ours the sales person said he would anticipate that we would be picking up from the Chesterfield location (we are a Sept - nov delivery). I would agree with jsrawa that they have put all unnecessary expenses on hold until after at least Q3. I hope they move soon. That U City location is way too small and dumpy for them.
