Hopefully you came across some construction activity. Targeted opening is Q3, so I would expect something any day.I expect to swing through there mid-day today.
Hopefully the solar on the truck can help in case it doesn't make it.. 2-20 miles per day via the solar.Taking a walk on the wild side, you are.
No bandwidth = no pix, but:
Talked with Whistle Hill owner. Electrical equipment arrives July 19 (two weeks!); digging to proceed immediately.
I’m gonna head down that way this weekend I think. Do we know if the destination chargers will still be online while they work on the super chargers?July 19th is tomorrow. I’m looking forward to seeing pictures of the first Alaskan Supercharger construction. Are there any other locals who might be able to oblige us with an update?
Be sure to take pictures!!I’m gonna head down that way this weekend I think. Do we know if the destination chargers will still be online while they work on the super chargers?
Yes please (pictures and status)! I'll be passing through there next week and if there's a working Supercharger, I might borrow a Model 3 in Anchorage and drive it down.
Fat chance.
Ah, but I’ll be down there for 10 days, so that maybe a slim chance?
Hmmm. Fresh off an 8k mile road trip, and with over 400 SC visits behind me, that Whistle Hill location doesn't strike me as the most likely. The geolocation pin on Tesla's map puts the location near the Kenai-Spur-Highway, distinctly away from the destination charger at Whistle Hill. From the perspective of "amenities within walking distance," the spur is a much better location with a half dozen eating places within a short walk.
The pin also says, "Timing and location subject to change."
In perusing a map of Soldotna, and considering Tesla's affinity for colocating Superchargers with: gas stations, hotels, malls, and chain stores (Meijer, Fred Meyer, Wal-Mart), I'd expect to see the SC drop nearer the Safeway. It's in a very large paved area with plenty of under-utilized parking, I count 8 places to eat and 2 hotels within a very short walk, and a gas station. I'll gawk a bit when I pass through.
Great info! I am skeptical about the 2 week timeline howeverMy “boots on the ground” source had dinner at Whistle Hill tonight and also spoke with the owner. Superchargers are going there, construction starts next week, and will be done in 2 weeks.
Or SpaceX related, apparently…Two weeks is pretty much standard for anything Tesla related as per Elon.
