Smooth drive, quick, feels really planted on the road, comfortable, it's as enjoyable to drive slowly as it is to drive fast and is a breeze in traffic, traction control that doesn't get in the way, immediate throttle response, relaxing uncluttered bright interior, no rattles, loads of storage space back and front, is toasty warm on a winter morning before I even get in, it doesn't poison people with its fumes or disturb others with its engine noise, it looks good, it feels like the future, it makes children nudge their parents to point it out, it's always fuelled up in the morning so I don't have to divert my journey to go to a petrol station.

It has tech that is evolving over time. Via "over the air updates" my car has specifically improved in many areas since I bought it in September 2019.
These improvements include: 5% increase in power, increase in peak DC charging rate, introduction of full one pedal driving, speed limit sign reading, improved cruise control speed setting options, auto closing of windows, control windows from app, notification to app if car left unlocked, recording of dash cam from multiple cameras, ability to manually save dash cam and sentry mode, auto save dash cam on horn honk, ability to view dash cam and sentry mode footage on the car's own screen, camp mode, "Joe mode" (for slightly quieter bing bong notifications), improved auto wipers, shows Supercharger availability and if out of order, watch Youtube or Netflix etc in car, increase in range of onscreen visualisations that show vehicles bikes pedestrians traffic lights road markings wheelie bins traffic cones, increased range of voice commands, several new onscreen games (that I haven't even looked at!)
When was full one pedal driving introduced? I still don't have that.

I am awaiting my Model 3 this weekend. I have just sold my Jaguar iPace after 2 years and from my perspective it had several faults that let it down. For example the sound system sometimes died for no apparent reason and that includes sat nav instructions as well as radio/media etc. Not fixed by turning on/off either. Needed about 30 minutes to reset. Also several times all the cars screens went black for an hour or so. The battery suffered reduced range and needed replacement, off the road for 4 weeks. The trim below the wing mirror fell off, the fix involved supplying and painting a new front wing! Car off the road for 4 weeks again. Then the heating failed on the coldest day of the year (luckily i had seats and steering wheel heating, very cold feet though!) new heating matrix required, off the road for 4 weeks again.
All this on top of multiple dealer visits for software updates as infotainment very slow and buggy and rear mud flaps kept detaching and getting disintegrated by the rear tyres. These were replaced at least 3 times as the noise it created was quite worrying to say the least! The radar cruise/auto steer worked well most of the time but the system sometimes failed and just turned itself off, also autosteer could have a death wish sometimes steering into the side of the road on a whim.

Despite all this i really liked the car! Performance and ride/refinement are excellent and it was good fun to drive and has a very nice interior.

In my opinion the biggest issue is JLR are poorly set up to deal with EV's and any work on them constitutes an exception to the norm and everything is slower than for ICE cars from them.

The point being that all cars, particularly EV's have some issues and in the 'echo chamber' of a specialist forum these can sometimes be over stated by the disgruntled whilst owners without issues can often tend to be a little muted.

Thats not to say there are no issues of course but hopefully they will be resolved by OTA updates over time, something the Jaguar never really did fully incidentally, still needed to go to dealers for some updates and often took half a day or more.

And I know you can often get remote cooling now, but heating and cooling?

Ever since first buying a car with remote cabin conditioning (heating and cooling) about ten years ago, it's a feature that I'd never be without on any car. My last three cars before the Tesla have had this, and the one I've just bought has it. The big advantage of newer cars with pre-conditioning is the ability to do it from beyond remote control range. Being able to switch preconditioning on when away from the car is a definite advantage, but is not unique to Tesla, even the Renault Zoe that my wife's just ordered has this using the app.

When was full one pedal driving introduced? I still don't have that.

My car had it for a time, worked very well indeed, but it seem to have massively reduced in capability with a fairly recent update. Now, unless the car has been driven hard and the battery is really warm, one pedal driving seems to have pretty much faded away. No doubt it may return come the summer, when the temperature starts to increase..

Ah it could be a cold motor/battery thing. I though I hadn’t noticed it. Have test driven a Honda e and that has true one pedal driving

Wheelie bin detection! Just kidding :D (though seriously, it does have that)

Fast acceleration. I've not been in a performance model but even the LR has a decent kick to it. If you get bored of that (I still haven't) you can buy a software upgrade that makes it go even faster.

Pretty quiet - My favourite thing about this is how it sounds during acceleration/deceleration. Very sci-fi. Also, consider those times you see someone leave some traffic lights with their 4 exhaust pipes going "BBBAAAAAAAAAAARRRRPPPP" down the road. That doesn't happen in this car - you can launch yourself from a green light and the car won't struggle at all. People complain about wind noise at higher speeds. It could certainly be quieter (I think newer builds may have addressed this?) but I find it quite relaxing to hear. Reminds me of being in a glider.

One-pedal driving - You get used to it really quickly, right down to judging the stopping distance when solely slowing using regenerative braking. It's really smooth. A little anecdote on this: Previously, I had a habit of pumping the accelerator pedal rather than keeping it steady. My partner pointed this out to me as it was noticeable when she was a passenger. This stopped when I got the Model 3 as the regenerative braking makes the effects of this a lot more pronounced!

Safety - Fortunately I've had minimal encounters with any of these features (forward collision warning is startling but very handy for telling you when someone has slowed significantly in front of you.) I've seen some of the wrecks people have got into though. Aside from the design of the chassis, the software does a lot of stuff using the cameras and sensors to try to keep you safe. Sometimes it gets it wrong (falsely thinks there is a problem when there isn't) but this may be addressed by software updates. Which leads me to...

Software updates - They're not perfect, things break etc. I don't care much about the games that get added. The UI changes that have happened in the past few months bother some people but not others. Since getting the car, several nice things got added. One of my favourites was the option to basically enable one-pedal driving. Previously, the car would slow down with regenerative braking but you'd need to apply the brakes eventually to come to a stop. Then, you could press the brake pedal again to "hold" the car. This all got wrapped up into a "hold mode" option, where the car does all of that for you. A dashcam viewer got added, which is still a bit flaky but for the most part it's usable. Recognition of various things got added (wheelie bins, traffic lights, traffic cones, arrow markings on the road, speed limit signs.) I'm sure there's more that I've missed.

Dashcam/Sentry mode - Not perfect as it can sometimes cut the part of the video you're most interested in watching! But you get to see 4 different angles. Sentry mode records when people are near your parked car. It drains the battery a bit though so not that useful to have enabled all of the time.

App - The climate control can be turned on and adjusted remotely. You can also beep your horn or flash the lights if you can't remember where you parked. If someone else is driving your car, you can see where it is.

Fuel - Electricity as "fuel" is cheap. If you need a home charger installed, obviously that costs a bit more up-front though. You can charge it overnight on a cheap night-rate tariff and have it ready to go in the morning.

Driver profiles - Seat, wing mirrors, steering wheel all adjust depending on the selected profile. Check out the "easy access" profile which moves everything into whatever position you find most comfortable to enter/exit the car, and then selects your normal profile as you're about to drive (thus moving everything back in to your preferred driving positions.)

There's probably a lot more I could list. And there's probably a few things I could say "eh, that could be better". But would I return it? No, not even if they gave me a full refund after over a year of ownership.

When was full one pedal driving introduced? I still don't have that.

So you can't drive along ... slow to a complete stop at a junction with holding brake activated ... drive off when clear etc whilst only using the accelerator pedal? That was introduced as an option in November 2019. Depends on how you have your settings and how you drive of course.

Have a look through the options in the car. I can't remember which section it was under or what the option was even called (and don't have the car with me right now to check) but pretty sure there are 3 settings, two are "creep", and "hold". Might be in the same section that you can adjust the steering settings.

"Creep" would make the car behave like an automatic ICE where it crawls forward unless you press the brake pedal.
"Hold" slows the car using regenerative braking, then starts to apply the brakes, and when it's stopped, the brakes remain applied.
The other option (may be "off", or "stop" or neither of these!) just uses regenerative braking at first and, after slowing down, leaves the car rolling until it comes to a stop (or you press the brake pedal yourself.)

Was quite an early update for me. Maybe Dec 2019 or Jan 2020? When the option was added it did NOT become the default. You had to change it yourself.

Oh I have that. It's just not one pedal driving as I understand it. I still need to hit the brakes occasionally. I've driving cars with true one pedal options and the regen is much more agressive

If you don't precondition on a very cold morning then obviously you won't have enough regen to give you sufficient braking for "one pedal driving" so a light dab of brakes might be required... it certainly works for me and I only have one motor (SR+) applying the braking regen ... but then the car is a bit lighter so maybe it balances out.

Yes, I think some cars also include actual brakes earlier in the mix ... Tesla uses purely regen right up to the point where you stop and only then applies the brake ... should be better for efficiency but doesn't give the strength of braking you may want in some situations (and temperatures).

Also I forgot: packaging of the Tesla is superb. Because it’s a pure EV company rather than an manufacturer trying to get into the EV game the use of space seems to be much better. Size (or even availability) of the froot on even the model 3 makes it very usable. Most manufacturers haven’t grasped the lack of space that having an electric drivetrain affords you. I’m shocked that things like the polestar 2 has a transmission jump on the car despite not having a transmission there. For the size of car there is A LOT of usable room in a Tesla.

also, and this really should be the biggest. Crash your car and you’ll definitely benefit from the primary safety of a Tesla. Actually, scratch that. Watch videos of the NCAP guys crashing your car. Then relax knowing it’s a tough little SOB

Not so much the car (although agree with what a lot has already been said on this thread), but for me the Mobile Ranger service Tesla offer has been brilliant. Had to book a couple of service appts for little niggly things to resolve and both occasions they have been out to my house to resolve. Last one was scheduled for mid march, got a call on Friday from a mobile ranger who was in the area with the required parts asking if I was around so he could pop in and complete the job, he was done and dusted in 30 mins (replaced lose trunk latch that was causing an annoying rattle when going over uneven surfaces).

Cant think of any other car company that offers a home service option.

Well, thinking about how best to answer what’s been great, here’s my experience so far….

Locked down in April last year, a few weeks after signing up to Tesla’s online dating service I stood at the front door anxiously clutching sanitiser, wipes & a 10 page check-list for body gaps, blemishes, trim and other errors.

But as ‘she’ slowly lowered from the loader in her pearly white newness - flat little nose, flip up chest & a mane of shiny black, her body sparkled in the sun & I think it was love at first sight. I struggled to respond to the delivery driver & coughing through my mask as discreetly as we’re allowed, could already feel a lump forming.

After he drove away & a thorough inspection, my shiny little Go-Girl Cart was in fact near perfect. I put her details into my phone, touched her side & she chirped at me, flashed her eyes and waggled her ears in a very seductive way (I still get that turn-on every time!). Unable to control myself, as soon as I was able, I shot off the drive.

She’s been a very fast and flighty little beast ever since & on many occasions we’re together I can’t resist giving her an occasional and rather guilty thrashing. She always responds willingly & the charge she demands afterwards is ridiculously cheap (in fact on sunny days it’s nothing!)

Nearly a year later, it’s so relaxing to control a silent & feisty creature like this with only two limbs. My redundant left foot is withering away, meanwhile an occasional double flick of the right wrist indicates I’m ready for the scary roller-coaster ride that is AutoHarlot mode.

Most of the time it’s just she and me but occasionally as a threesome. The other day we managed two brief sessions, the second with my wife pinned back & trying to ignore what we were doing through gritted teeth and closed eyes. At nearly 64 years of age I’m proud that we still manage to shoot off like that as often as we’re allowed; in fact after a year of lockdown restrictions it’s been a real struggle to contain myself from doing it all over the place and all the time.

So, in answering ‘what’s great’ I’m pleased to say she’s the quietest, fastest, cheapest to run, tee-total mistress this man could possibly want (...& she even warms herself up if you ask nicely beforehand)

At times, this felt borderline inappropriate. Ever considered fan fiction ;)

I'm surprised you went with white and not the 50 shades of Grey observed in the Midnight Silver Metallic :D
