On a different note, here's an impressive example of the dynamic range of our cameras in the Tesla. This was taken at 1:40am just by the airport in Sydney. That's at least 16 f-stops in one image!

And another one from about an hour earlier on the M31 heading towards Sydney - really driving in the pitch dark. Yet the camera records detailed lightning!

And another one, these are just fascinating. This is the only lightning recording I found from that drive (and there were dozens!) where the camera saturated, and even then only in a single frame. The next frame is posted as well:

So Thu evening US time, which is probably Friday afternoon for East Coast Australia (historically they've been very close to midnight California time - which is 7pm Sydney)

Goodie! So we are about to get a browser that works, voice commands that ditto, headlights that dip as on the tin etc? Mirrors that don't have minds of their own in the garage? Usable autopark?

The dynamic range is very good, but face it, the colour rendering on the Sentry cams is compete garbage. They are different things.

Before Tesla built-in the ability to review sentry cam vidoes in-car, lots of people developed third-party Apps to stitch them together for playback, and one of those Apps colour-corrected the videos as well. The quality looked fantastic once the colour was corrected.

I am in fact the author of one of those softwares @Vostok , the colour correction is non-trivial, and only works with assumptions being made. The sensors do not have the full spectral coverage required to create a true colour RGB image. In return, they have far better dynamic range than any consumer camera sensor out there - as the blindingly bright lightning examples illustrate!

Internally both are expected to be toggle-able using feature flags.
