Tesla took away my standard AP

First post, and I’m griping, though I otherwise love my car.

I took delivery of my LR RWD Model 3 late March and decided to buy standard AP the day before. At the dealer they apologetically said the paperwork would take an extra hour because of the late AP addition. No problem, I understand and I happily waited a little.

So I had been enjoying AP and trying EAP with the trial package. Then when Tesla retracted the trial package over a month ago, my AP was also taken away!

Round and round I go trying to get things sorted out. I speak with a bunch of people in various departments, provide PoP and finally they give me back AP. Then I’ve been thinking of adding FSD but couldn’t because due to internal Tesla miscommunication, Tesla still didn’t think I paid for AP and it was impossible to select FSD without also selecting AP (which I'd already paid for). Finally I get a Delivery Support Specialist to suss out the issue and lo and behold, FSD is a now a single option in my account.

Now to the question at hand: I’m trying to talk with someone in charge at Tesla or my dealership to hear me out and give me a discount on FSD as a goodwill gesture for taking away AP, after paying 3K for a feature that two weeks later is provided free (yeah, I realize this is standard operating procedure for Tesla), and for the burden and aggravation of dealing with this unnecessary crap as a new customer. I’m asking the community for some suggestions on how to get someone at Tesla with authority to hear me out. Does anyone have Mr Musk's number? ;)

You are not going to get much love or support from this community.
It's more devoted to Tesla (the company), than to each other (the drivers).

Realistically, your chances of getting $3K off FSD price are minuscule.
If you are a sucker enough to pay $6K for a feature that does not exist, why would Tesla want to haggle with you?

You'll back down and pay up the full fare, since you've already convinced yourself that you want FSD (aka Navigate on autopilot, red light alerts, and summon).
So, pay up, and start posting to the "I over-paid for FSD yet it doesn't do much" thread.

Forget about FSD. It’s a total scam. If it were really coming as a “FSD” anytime soon and not just be a glorified L2 aid, Tesla wouldn’t lose 10% of their autonomous driving team and that snake oil salesman (CEO) wouldn’t appeal to people’s fear of losing out by suckering them into “buy now, it’s going to become UNAFFORDABLE in the future.”

Look at the crap that’s FSD today. LOL “but what about HW3 and their super duper neural net”. Well, let’s just say don’t be upset if this one fizzles out like EVERY promise of FSD since 2015.

Wow. Harsh responses. OP, you probably won't get a break on FSD. As someone observed, you did enjoy a free month. That said, if you're looking for threads that thoughtfully discuss the merits of buying FSD now versus waiting, as well as some discussion of the likely timetable for FSD, such threads aare easily found on the forum with a search. This thread certainly doesn't seem to be one of them.

Yet another owner from an oil state in the peanut gallery, criticizing a billion dollar company and the first initiative from oil and the traditional auto manufacturer grasp.

Change is on going my friend. It is happening regardless. Elon is just the first to break the mould in this area.

Accept it. Let it go. :)

LOL. I’m totally sold on EV. Driving EVs since 2013. And I drive a P3, which I think is the best car. Also have a 100% renewable electricity plan so what are you talking about with your Texasphobia?!

Tesla autonomous driving SW is still crap today and unless they have “magic” will be for the near future.

Everything you said is irrelevant. OP asked what should he do to get AP back, not what you think about FSD. I don’t understand all these insecure haters that always shove their opinions as facts to everyone’s faces.

You’re right. I do not support drivers who got an “oowie” and now want cash compensation. That’s childish, and too much a part of victimization. The OP is not damaged, does deserve an apology from Tesla ( not us) and AP correctly setup.

If the OP wants FSD, then buy it. If it’s too expensive then don’t. Perhaps the market will encourage Tesla to reduce prices if people stop buying FSD. Then again, maybe people will buy it and the price will go up.

I’ve always heard and observed that life is not fair.

The most successful approach is a Tesla Service Center visit.

Oh, another wannabe forum cop. This thread is about autonomous driving features, their value and Tesla’s bizarre bureaucracy so who are you to tell me that what I post about these features and their value is irrelevant.

The OP is trying to get these features and has issues with Tesla’s bureaucracy. As a forum is for exchanging opinions, I chimed in that In My Opinion, the autonomy effort by Tesla, esp. their totally misleading “FULL SELF DRIVING” is a scam and I would just forget about it and move on.

You are more than welcome to let your vehicle navigate you on a highway from exit to exit for $7000 or whatever you paid for that AMAZING luxury. Don’t forget to keep your hands on the steering wheel and if you love your life, check the mirrors before letting your baby change lanes for you LOL.

I think there is a misunderstanding here. When AP got added to all cars as a standard option, the prices also went up. So no one got AP “for free”.

Considering that, I’m not sure what your complaint is?

I find it hard to believe so many people are upset about price changes. They happen. I paid 49000 for a model 3 sr+ with fsd, blue paint, and rims but now you can get a base model performance model for the same price! Am I wishing I had the p3d? HELL YES! Am I disappointed that I took delivery of a model 3 three months ago? HELL NO.

If anything it makes me excited about what is going to be available when I trade the car in in 4-5 years 8).

The actual resale price of the car mostly matters if you are trying to sell it for cash in the near term and selling a new car in the first year or two will kill you on depreciation anyway. If you plan on keeping the car long term, what do you care if you have the car you wanted at the price you were willing to pay?

In the longer term, especially if you go from one Tesla to another, it smooths out a bit. If you trade in a car, there is a sales tax advantage and you have the chance to choose the timing to hit the inevitable deals and upgrades (as opposed to a lease),

One thing for sure is that in 3-4 years, there will be a better car than you have now, available for less money than you paid. That tends smooth out a lot of the near term price changes.

And there’s your insecurities again. What’s the issue with you? If you don’t like it move on why be hateful online and call those that like it fools. A scam? Just keep your ignorant self off these forums please, it’s for people to converse and share their opinions when asked, not pass them on as facts and be hateful.

Hey Freud, I don’t hate you or Tesla. I just call out BS. Instead of “hate”, consider it a public service, even “love” for others who are considering wasting $$$ on a fraudulent feature. A public service.

Or does your car pick you up by itself “really” (to paraphrase the false advertising)?

I bought AP 3/6 and just realized I got AP now. Never got any update request or anything, just got into car and checked the AP tab. There were two new options at the top: Cruise follow distance and Auto steer selector. No AP listing found in Tesla account. Enjoy!
