Here's an article on CleanTechnica pointing out all the false statements and misinformation in the NYT article:

One additional observation: unless you returned immediately after arriving in Vegas (courier run), some of the charge time (a high percentage in a Tesla) is negated by actually being there.

Distance: 260 miles. Range of Model 3 LR: 325:
On a good day, no charging would be needed on the way to Vegas, let the car fill at the hotel or casino, no charging needed on the way back. Net result: faster than an ICE that needed a fill up before starting the trip and another on the way back, plus another the next day.

My mom just said “NY Times said electric cars aren’t good”

Then me having to explain that reporter ignored Teslas and Teslas are good and I never spend that much time at superchargers because there are so many of them now and then explaining how I never even public charge because you just charge at home and you have more than enough miles for daily use and you don’t have any oil changes or mufflers and you don’t have to deal with a dealer.

Now she wants a model 3.

NY Times needs to up their EV reporting game.
The good news is that your son/daughter will have no idea what New York Times was.. much less read it :D

Europe's small cars an endangered species

The fundamental problem? The technology required to meet the new regulations will price small cars out of the market.

"New CO2 rules will require automakers to fit thousands of euros of tech to each car," Max Warburton, an analyst at research and brokerage firm Sanford C. Bernstein wrote in a report this spring. "Big cars have the price points and margins to cover these costs. Small cars simply do not. These segments may soon be abandoned by many manufacturers."

If FSD and robotaxi comes to life in four years, the new car sale in big cities gonna collapse even quicker. I was talking about a lower growth projection of tesla sales. fsd and robotaxi would be <50% likelihood and 10* value creation for tsla in three years while the market value it almost $0 for tsla. Who does not want this free lottery?

Are you talking about a used model 3 for $20k in four years time? How are you figuring it would be $20k in 4 years? By then, I thought those model 3’s would have appreciated in value according to EM? ;)

Casey got on job of fighting NYT FUD - he would know - he just did a NY-LA Trip in a Model X and documented it on twitter

this headline should have stipulated 'an electric car THAT'S NOT A TELSA' because I've driven this same drive in a Tesla and didn't experience any of the burdens highlighted in this article

The production Taycan looks cool IMO.

Just not as cool as the concept Mission E

No he didn't advocate for using the grid as a battery, he says not to. He advocates to keep your grid connection for two reasons: 1) You will likely need it occasionally and 2) It is required by law in most places.

1.) He said it multiple times--use the grid to provide stand-by power when self generation is insufficient and to shed excess generation when self generation exceeds the house's instantaneous load--that's effectively the service of a battery connected as distributed stationary storage.
2.) Can you name a single jurisdiction that requires by law a grid connection? He said 37 states require electricity (not grid connections) for habitable structures. Self generation satisfies those legal requirements.

My weekend ad for Tesla (feel free to use, modify, and share):

It never ends:

Daimler to recall 60,000 Mercedes diesels in Germany over emissions - Reuters

Why even bother with ICE anymore? Do you think the scandals and recalls are miraculously going to stop? And now another refinery explosion, sending fuel prices soaring for the summer driving season:

U.S. Summer Driving Gets Pricier Start as Key Refinery Burns
Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

It makes zero sense to buy any ICE car over $30k, when you can buy the world's most advanced production car, the Tesla Model 3, for under $40k, (before tax incentives and fuel and maintenance savings).

Think before you buy. EVs are here and Tesla is the future.

With the notable exception of the thermonuclear reactor 150 million km away, which is sending us 4-5 kWh of energy per square meter every day, on average, at U.S. latitudes, free of charge? :D

If that is what you consider free of charge, there are numerous other natural sources of energy such as wind, geo-thermal, tidal flows, the run of rivers, gravity, radioactive isotopes and even hydrocarbons. All those sources lay fallow until someone spends money to harness natural energy into a useful form, capable of performing work and improving the quality of human life.

Disagreements and controversies revolve around how much is the relative "charge" for using energy from any given natural source and how such "charges" should be allocated among society.
