YesCan you re-purchase FSD on the old car?
Have you tried this at the grocery store?Does the price go to $15,000 or the amount from before?

I would expect the price to re-buy FSD to be the current $15k price, but given this thread of unexpected 2018 "firmware/software" issues, I wouldn't be surprised either as 2018 vehicles had all sorts of price changes for AP/EAP/FSD.Have you tried this at the grocery store?
If you’re going to re-buy FSD, you’ll pay full price, so there’s no point in transferring it to the new car.I would expect the price to re-buy FSD to be the current $15k price, but given this thread of unexpected 2018 "firmware/software" issues, I wouldn't be surprised either as 2018 vehicles had all sorts of price changes for AP/EAP/FSD.
Right, I'm trying to confirm that the old vehicle actually still needs to pay the full price or if one can re-buy it at a lower price effectively letting you buy FSD on a new vehicle for a lower price previously offered on the old vehicle. If you’re going to re-buy FSD, you’ll pay full price, so there’s no point in transferring it to the new car.
That has never been the case, FSD has always been charged at the current price.Right, I'm trying to confirm that the old vehicle actually still needs to pay the full price or if one can re-buy it at a lower price effectively letting you buy FSD on a new vehicle for a lower price previously offered on the old vehicle.
On a 2018 with 5 years on the clock (roughly half its life), I’d just do a subscription.Right, I'm trying to confirm that the old vehicle actually still needs to pay the full price or if one can re-buy it at a lower price effectively letting you buy FSD on a new vehicle for a lower price previously offered on the old vehicle.
I also had noticed this among the three vehicle purchases in my household. Our new Model Y is great, the quality and fun of the car makes up for the mediocre ordering and delivery experience. Tesla needs to hire someone from Disney to train the service center teams - or at least get them to smile and say "hello, how may we help you?" You walk in all excited about your new car and then you end up feeling like you wandered into the DMV office. This is our third Tesla and we love the cars. In 2016 the delivery experience made you feel really special, with a big bow on the hood and the feeling that Tesla really valued you as a customer. This experience made us feel like just another car out the door for Tesla.
So I just put the deposit down for an inventory Y yesterday. The previous day the Tesla associate told me about the APF1 Firmware "issue". I had known nothing about it so I left but found this thread (thank you community for posting about it!). Went back yesterday. The key really is getting someone in service to look it up. I think it's pretty specific to owners of Tesla that were purchased without FSD before the FSD computer was updated. As we all know, the FSD computer was part of the upgrade. The service associate was explaining how she could see how the error was made. I really think this needs to be communicated at the company level because I could see someone else giving up on it.Come to this thread today. I did purchased Model 3 in June 2018 with EAP and latter in a promotion upgraded to FSD. Did everyone who initially have problem to transfer the FSD, successfully got around this?
I order an Y to suppose the FSD transfer from my 2018 3, and later I filled form which provided by local Sales. I had also got the VIN for the Y. If my FSD could not be transferred I will refuse to take delivery even if that mean I lost the deposit.
When was this? I thought this problem has been fixed and later on no one had the same issue. So I just put the deposit down for an inventory Y yesterday. Now I have a few days until pickup. My app asked if I wanted to transfer the FSD to the new Y. I said yes yesterday. My old 3 still had it this morning, so no idea how long it takes to completely remove (would love it to be soon as I'd like to sell my car to CarMax for additional down payment).
Happened on 8/19/23 to me at the Glendale, AZ Tesla Store. The woman that first helped me just pulled the "sales" data up with the firmware and said it wasn't possible. I was ignorant to the whole thing at that point and wasn't sure what to say. Found this thread and came back armed with some info (I had just remembered the email Tesla sent me about it as well right after I left). The one that helped me knew I was frustrated from the day before. Walked away for a while (checking the service info I presume). Came back and explained it was allowed and gave a very similar reason as was given in here (sales side sees it incorrectly). When was this? May be different ppl in Tesla handles this differently. I was asked to sign up the transfer form and was asked to pick up FSD option at time of ordering new Y. Few days latter, the FSD option automatically disappeared from my order. I emailed Tesla and got the answer that my FSD is in process to be transferred and the new process no longer required FSD on the sales bill. To me that may mean there is no such stupid AFP firmware issue, otherwise someone in Tesla will inform me.Happened on 8/19/23 to me at the Glendale, AZ Tesla Store. Yeah it's obviously a symptom of poor internal communication on policy changes made on Earnings Calls, but all these years, I'm sort of used to it with Tesla.May be different ppl in Tesla handles this differently. NVM, I emailed Tesla again now to confirm.
I'd be very careful, as you would be breaking the conditions of the transfer rules - so basically Tesla can just pull FSD from the new vehicle if they find out you have sold the 'donor' vehicle before taking possession of the new one. I'd only try that if you can get written confirmation that they will not do that. For me it's all about timing. I need to sell my current Tesla. Would love to have it sold before pickup so I can put a lot more down on it. I might try calling/emailing them to see if I can get a green light to sell. Of course...my title hasn't come in the mail yet either (due any day now). I should have waited an extra week or two to avoid some of this stress.
Yes for sure...unless I am 100% sure, I wouldn't do it. Just kind of sucks that I have to secure financing without it since I don't want to cave to Tesla lowball trade in offers.I'd be very careful, as you would be breaking the conditions of the transfer rules - so basically Tesla can just pull FSD from the new vehicle if they find out you have sold the 'donor' vehicle before taking possession of the new one. Yes it's pretty annoying. If you don't have the cash available, no idea if a bank or credit union can get you some kind of bridge loan for a couple of days.Yes for sure...unless I am 100% sure, I wouldn't do it. First world problems I know. I have a bit of cash for a down payment. Once my old Tesla gets sold, I'll make a lump sum payment I guess. Reduce the term of the loan by quite a bit.Yes it's pretty annoying. If you don't have the cash available, no idea if a bank or credit union can get you some kind of bridge loan for a couple of days.
