Tesla's rules for owner's clubs, full text

Am sure this has been discussed before, but it popped up again today, and Transport Evolved has a link to the full text:

"Provide reasonable assistance in the following areas:
Supporting local legislative efforts"

Doesn't seem like an onerous requirement. I assume it means they will send your club email or notice about any hearings for legislation so owners can mobilize if they wish.

The other two items they request reasonable assistance in are:
Surveys / Focus Groups
Participate in "test groups" for new software

Seems like a good deal to me. I'd love to be able to test new software

Have not seen anything anywhere to submit a club application?

Also haven't seen anything to suggest there is any upside to being an official club OTHER than perhaps official sanction to name/logo.

Are we reading the same document? I see:

• Tesla intends to provide access to a Tesla store / service center of Tesla’s choosing to hold a club event up to once per calendar year.
• Tesla may arrange for product specialists or other personnel to attend such club event.
• Tesla intends to provide a 35% Tesla merchandise discount code ... once per calendar year.
• Tesla intends to offer Eligible Clubs a direct line of communication to provide comments and suggestions to Tesla
• Tesla will consider promoting a past or upcoming event hosted by an Eligible Club via official Tesla social media channels...

There are some less tasty bits too. There is an NDA and an Owners Club Agreement to sign. You are also requested to help fight IP infringement and data breaches. Those are valid requests, but it depends how they are applied and interpreted.

Projects like the Stretchla (already shut down more than two years ago after Tesla refused to sell parts to the individual in question), su-tesla, and the Tesla Model S Autopilot Retrofit project could all fall foul of this clause, in short, killing any DIY repair among Tesla owners."

I am no lawyer, and am sure leadership around here knows what the deal is. The goodies do sound pretty neat! But they need to weigh both sides.

I also am no lawyer, but that part definitely sounds worrisome. A club that signs the agreement could be compelled to censor or remove any posts that Tesla deems to be infringing or just doesn't want out there.

Oh-- didn't see those. Much better. But still, the inability to have free conversation with regards to repairs/mods/etc. is kind of a deal killer. I mean, what's a club going to do instead?

I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole with those clauses. After all, Tesla has refused to help fight IP infringment committed by Tesla...

I don't care about the goodies. Freedom of action is more important.
