Got a text to schedule with a VIN this afternoon!!
To whoever gets Vin 000247, I hope you enjoy my car, it was tough to let it go.
We ordered our Y the night of the unveil, 3/14/2019. Our order config never changed Blue/Performance/Black interior/Auto Pilot, and responded ASAP for all Tesla required info from the 2/24/2020 email to prepare for delivery.
For several weeks, we were getting the same Tesla reply “just waiting for VIN.” After asking about the effects of shelter-in-place on the morning of 3/17, we finally got our VIN later that same afternoon. We were scheduled to take our Y delivery at the Fremont Hub on Friday 3/20 — the soonest available day.
But just hours before our delivery appointment today, we got a call from Tesla that our Y did not pass final delivery inspection, and needed to go “back to factory” to fix paint imperfections.
Same batch as CaliChris614 with a low 00024X VIN. We even asked if another vehicle was available instead of our VIN, so we could still take delivery today. Nope. We are tentatively rescheduled for 3/22 Sunday after the paint repairs. Fingers crossed!
Part of me wonders... if Tesla is matching orders to inventory on hand, and an order almost a year after ours with the same config is less then 10 VINs away, why even match a VIN for delivery without FIRST inspecting the car? Why does the delivery center have to catch a paint issue that should have been part of QA at the assembly line?
If only our VINs were swapped CaliChris614, they could fix the paint on our Y for the next customer. Sigh...
