I usually keep track of these cars to see what going rates are and see if there are any good deals. Instead of making individual threads like everyone seems to do for CPO I figure I'll just make one ongoing thread. I work right down the road from the Stafford /Houston, Texas location so if someone really needs to see a car in person let me know and I'll see what I can do to get eyes on it and confirm pictures.

If you decide you want to snag one I'd recommend calling or emailing Stephen Smith, he's the guy who helped me. He doesn't work in the Stafford location but he's gone above and beyond to help me with my car purchase

Thanks for the post, I was just about to buy an X from there until I ran over to Tesla and had them run a few of the VINs, turned out that all of them were in accidents, the SA even showed me some of the pictures... Looks like the low mileage ones that end up there are wholesaled by tesla as they won't sell anything with accident history in house.

That being said, many of the prices do seem fair so if I find something that checks out I'll reach out. Thanks again for your post.

Tesla will run the VINs? Every time I call one of the service centers they tell me to shove off and they can't release any info. The ones in Houston even refused to do any kind of pre-purchase inspection. They offered zero history and would only do an inspection after the vehicle was purchased, which kind of defeated the purpose.

I go over the AutoCheck/Car fax to see if there was any damage reported though.

Agreed that this is a great thread.

I just discovered Vroom but don't have any experience with them beyond going to thier site and looking around for a few minutes. Vroom claims toward the bottom of their homepage that their cars are accident free, is this claim incorrect based on your discovery of those cars having accident history's or did Vroom disclose that they were cars with accident histories?

"Multiple Inspections
Every car we sell has a clean title and an accident-free AutoCheck® vehicle history report. Cars are inspected for safety, mechanical, and cosmetic issues."

for what it is worth. My brother sold BMW in California for abut 10 years before he moved to North Carolina to sell real estate. He has never purchased a Tesla BUT he had purchased about 3 cars from Texas Auto Direct in the last few years... HE loves them... said that they are super easy to work with and have less mark up because they do so much volume. He just got a Tundra pickup a few months back for a really good deal and they have the internet sales thing down to a science....He is a fan of this company without question

I also heard that they do get their Teslas from Tesla themselves... I have seen some really good deals from them. However if I am not mistaken since they are a "dealer" buying the extended warranty would not be an option for you...so if the remainder of the factory warranty is good for you them I can indirectly recommend Texas Auto Direct. My brother was a great car salesman so i trust his judgement

Hope that helps

It's possible to be in an accident and not be on a car fax. My truck was nearly totaled when I hit someone but I didn't go through insurance and I did all of the work myself. I never repainted the new quarter panel or bothered with the hood but other than that you'd never know something happened

The vast majority of accidents are only reported to insurances companies, rather than to the DMV (Police Report, etc) and insurance companies do not report to Carfax et al.

That said, serious accidents tend to be more likely to get onto carfax, because of the increased chances of police/ambulances.

from what I was told by the SA, specifically speaking about one of the Model Xs I was looking at there, Tesla classifies accident repairs as minor as long as there is no frame damage which in my opinion is a pretty wide berth... The vehicle in question I was looking at had it's bumper, headlights, hood, and a fender replaced but still didn't show up on the carfax. I advised the salesman about what I found out and was told that as long as it's not on the auto check or carfax, they view it as a clean car and it was back up on the site 15 minutes later for sale once I was refunded my deposit...

not saying that have clean cars, was just disheartened by the one I happen to pick out, hopefully it's an outlier.

Great information on Carfax reporting and Texas Auto Direct so far thank you.

So what's the best way for a prospective buyer to determine accident history if Carfax and AutoCheck are unreliable, only reporting the accidents where police are involved?

if you really want to know in depth, learn about it yourself or get a detailer/paint specialist to go with you. its not hard for me to spot if a panel has been worked on if you know what youre looking at/for

but to be honest, if it was a minor accident and repaired properly, it probably isnt a big deal. just that Tesla likes to go to the extent of not selling any car that has any type of aftermarket work done.

says it is a 40!! don't see those very often... the range on this one would be an issue for me...
Good call, I just went off of the ad and didn't catch the edge of the center console. Might explain why it's been sale pending back to selling twice now.

edit: the 40s are also software locked 60s so you can still get them upgraded. If you were seriously interested contact Stephen in my original post and hard ball him.

2013 S85 $45K 25Kmiles Tech, Air Suspension, Twin Chargers, Pano. Are those cloth seats?

Local Houston car(read: no salt corrosion) seems to be taken care of seeing as it was taken in to the Lambo dealer often for detailing.

2013 Tesla Model S
Yes, those are the cloth (or multi-pattern as Tesla calls them) seats.

Yes, it is 40kWh pack too. You can see in the pics from the instrument console and the "4" (0 was cut off in the pic, intentionally?) from the close up of the vehicle info picture.

Not a good price if it truly is still a 40kWh. That price is more like what an old 60kWh would be. Should be more like $35k for 40kWh in my opinion. In order to unlock it to a 60, I believe it is now $2500, but still will not have supercharging. That is another $2500 if I recall correctly.

It's 10K to unlock the 60kw another 2,500 for supercharging.
