Texas Hold Up!

I'm in the same boat as you! My car was supposed to arrive in Austin on 4/19, and I had a scheduled delivery for 4/21.

They called me on 4/19 though, with some bad news. The truck driver damaged the car during transport, and rather than fix the car, they would try to find me a new car with my config. I told them that I sold my car to coincide with my delivery date, and didn't have any transportation, and requested a loaner, which they happily obliged (P85D). I saw my car at the SC when I picked up the loaner, and there was a huge crack from the roof to the bottom of the rear windshield. The loaner experience has really helped ease the pain, but I still don't have an ETA on when I can expect a new VIN, or what the plan is. I contacted my ISA 2 days ago, who said he is out of the loop as well, but had heard that they might "try and repair [my] vehicle in the meantime to see if the parts come in and everything. Otherwise they are waiting for a vehicle with [my] configuration to arrive to assign to [me] and deliver to [me] ASAP."
What config did you order ?

I'm hoping we see a lot more movement on Texas VINs from 4/6-4/10 shortly. Seems like everyone everywhere else is getting VINs except for a tiny fraction of Texas residents. Considering the 4/6 batch was very Texas heavy, that's pretty disappointing.

I'm getting concerned about getting my car before the end of May at this point. There seems to be a minimum of two weeks after VIN before delivery, and there are many horror stories about cars just not getting shipped. I really don't have the time to waste and have no idea who to talk to at Tesla about this. I can't get through on the phone and don't have hours to spend on hold and there's no other contact option.

I have everything ready to go now but I have to wait for them to give me a VIN and tell me where to send the check. I even got the USPS overnight envelope to send it in. Why can't they just accept the Vehicle Buyer's Check with no VIN now and write it in when they get one? They'd be able to have the cars ship out much faster if they would do that.

For now, they seem to be prioritizing California, Washington, and the east coast.

I will add that I don't think the hold up in Texas is due to the Delivery Centers being overwhelmed. When it came to delivery, they were pretty open with times and dates that i could pick up.

The process leading up to the delivery appointment is a real mess for Texas. I will say, 4 days after my VIN showed up, my car was on a truck on its way to Texas (according to a person that was able to ping my car and even say what road it was currently on). At that time we were still far from completing the payment process so while my ISA reiterated the fact that my car would not leave California before payment completely cleared, that was far from the truth. In fact my delivery was almost delayed because Tesla couldn't find my check in Fremont and was only resolved the morning of my delivery.

I did receive a "Fake" delivery date (10PM delivery time) that appeared in my tesla account. The day it showed up on my account coincided with when it was loaded on a truck. I haven't seen much feedback from people who received a fake delivery date, but it's worth keeping an eye out as an indicator that your car has "Shipped".

Finally, my local delivery center was much more helpful than my ISA when it comes to up to date information. Just make sure you are calling the actual local number (not the one listed for your delivery center on tesla's website).

I'm starting to get really nervous about my deadline of the end of May (I cannot pick up the car for about a month and need the car June 1st for a road trip that I cannot change). I'm seeing delivery dates outside of the west coast appearing to be 3 weeks out from VIN. If this is the case, I have less than a week to get my VIN before I'm screwed.

I have no idea how to contact Tesla to inform them of my deadline. Their phone system (the number on the Tesla account page) has gone from keeping me on hold for forever to straight up rejecting my calls. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions on how to make them aware of my problem?

Well, I figured I'd need to contribute as well as complain, so here's the latest Texas status on VIN assignment from March 22nd through April 6th (when I configured) config dates.

I would try to contact a couple of other people on this board that have already gotten their cars. Chances are the same ISA will be handling many of the cars in the same geographical area. Alternatively, you can try logging into your Tesla account, and hoping that a chat prompt pops up asking if you have any questions. I did that way back after I configured, and the Tesla support staff forwarded my question to my ISA. That way when my VIN was assigned, I had a contact already. Good luck!

How do I find or trigger this mythical chat? I heard it's supposed to be on the main Tesla account page (where you see your list of Teslas), but I've never seen it before.

Good question. I tried poking around on my account page to see if I could get anything to pop up, but because I've already uploaded all my information, it may not be prompting me with a chat box anymore. Also, it may just be past their hours of operation. Another alternative is to call the Dallas SC and ask for the delivery specialist to see if they'll give you the name and number of the ISA they work with.

I am in a similar boat. I need to pick up before end of May or after mid-July. I called the 888 number found on the manage / order page in my account. I first called last weekend after getting a VIN assigned an asked them to put those notes in my account when I would not be available for delivery.

I called again yesterday after securing finance to see if I have a delivery advisor yet (I don't) but they did see the notes I previously asked to put on my account.

The first time I called was a Saturday morning, the second time was a Monday morning ... Maybe try to call in the mornings. I usually do email/work while waiting but I don't think I was on hold for more than 5 minutes.

Talking to the local staff they said if I was not available during delivery it would be in "covered parking" (I am not too thrilled about that, think airport parking for over a month.) Worst case scenario I hope to buy a car cover and ask them to keep it covered and charge once in awhile. Although if it not delivered in time I am hoping they can give my VIN to some other lucky person and I wait for another batch when I can pick up.

Although everyone I spoke to believes my vehicle will be delivered before May 29th (fingers crossed). The second time I called I heard the agent mumbling as he read through some status reports on the car and I believe I heard him say "currently in production". I had assumed a VIN assigned meant the car exhists but looking online that is not actually the case.

I would say try giving them a call again and your luck may change. They may not put notes in until you have a VIN. You may want to do it in the AM. The automated system changed between the two times I called, but on the second time I chose the option for Model 3 sales and the agent that picked up was able to help.

Good luck.

Okay, finally got through via the phone just now! The representative I spoke to said that I had not been assigned an ISA yet, but was able to add the notes to my account. Hopefully an ISA gets assigned shortly and can make sure I get my car on time.

Hope it works for you !!

I'm out of country for 10 days this month, but considering I don't have a VIN yet, not too worried.
Blessings of NOT having a VIN :p

Have you tried talking to your ISA? For me, as soon as they received proof the check was sent my ISA scheduled. But it took a call to him to actually schedule, otherwise he wouldn't have noticed the check was sent. The 10PM appointment was placed to get the car moving. It should be in Texas already and i wouldn't be surprised if it's just sitting in your delivery centers offsite lot.
