Email from Tesla earlier today:

Good Afternoon,

I wanted to email you personally to explain the slight shift you may have noticed in your Delivery Estimate.
The Right Hand Drive Model S 70D, 85D and P85D have recently entered production, however the ramp up to full output is taking a little longer than expected. This has resulted in some Model S orders having their build slot resequenced back by up to a few weeks.
The team at the factory need to ensure we are producing Model S up to a quality expected by our customers and I am doing everything I can on my end to accelerate the process of getting you behind the wheel of your Model S as soon as possible.
You’ll also notice later this week that your ‘Estimated Delivery’ will be removed from your MyTesla portal. The intention is that I will inform you of any meaningful updates rather than a surprise when visiting the portal. I have the most up-to-date information on hand and in a much better position to explain any changes.
Of course, I’ll continue to keep you updated and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns.

.....roll on December!

December 2016?

The D thread

Mine is now In Production :)

I'm actually a little ambivalent about this. Sure I'm super excited, but a small part of me fears that I might've missed out on hardware improvements that are supposed to come with the introduction of Model X, e.g. the rumoured nVidia Drive PX platform. Oh well, it's like buying a smartphone — if you keep waiting for a better model you'll never be able to buy one.

No, nice try cynix, but congratulations is in order - NOT commiserations.

I remember Elon Musk mentioning at the last AGM that for full autopilot mode, (ie the go to sleep version) the car would need to have "redundant" sensor hardware. Well the car is far off from that. And anyway, when push comes to shove, this auto update feature is really cool and all, but really, I don't see how anything is really going to be a game changer here. The next autopilot update will really be active cruise control with a bit of self steering thrown in. But let's face it - it will be jerky and rough. We might use it a couple of times, but we will talk about it a lot more. The car still can't even park itself like the 2005 Prius can. But even when it can reverse park - we might use that feature once or twice too. The real value of the Model S, is literally, everything else! The icing on the cake is good, but I want to sink my teeth into the sponge.

Thanks for letting me know that your car is in production. Judging by the allocation of VINs, I am about 7 days behind you. If they are having problems 'ramping up' I am about 10 days behind you.

Cheers - and congratulations again!

Totally right ZT...I absolutely agree with what you say about new features...there's only one feature I'm waiting for...the Supercharger network...or at least part of it. Although I am hopeful that even this iteration of Active Cruise & Steering will be useful on those long distance drives.

Yes me too WhiteStar. I am particularly interested in the supercharger at Golburn. But I am also really interested in a supercharger network between Sydney and the Gold Coast and I would certainly take the family on that trip.

i am a little disheartened by how long it is taking to build the Golburn supercharger station. It was supposed to be finished by June. But it hasn't even started.

No folks. Sorry to disappoint. Estimated delivery has changed to preferred delivery. So it has not improved. They are just not telling you any more by the website of any further delays.

Today I went to St Leonards to pick up some tire repair kits. One for the Tesla and another for the i3. I saw the Next Generation seats in the back in one car and I also saw executive seats for the back in another. The executives seeds just look like a replica of the front row seats. But the next gen seats in the back looked absolutely awesome. The kids are going to love them.

DOH!!
Has the bench seat got those bolster dividers between each seat, and if so, do they hinder the ability to fold them down?

Yes and I can only imagine yes. But I would still much rather have them than a flat back seat which could fold down perfectly. The centre seat did look a little smaller than the outer too but they still looks so comfortable. The seats just look like they are designed to hug you. For adults, I do confess, that they looked a little too snug. But for kids I reckon they are really good.

i thought that the Next Gen seats for the rear were not available any more and the current option of next gen seats is front seats only.

Yes, correct.

Back when it was available, they charged more for it. It shows up in the pictures of MyDesign.

I reckon it was a good option, but in another respect, the dividers for the back and bum could get annoying for some circumstances eg, wanting to spread out, lie down, put luggage down, fold seats all the way down... But personally I like them and am so glad I was early enough to get that option.

There's virtually no difference in fold-flatness between regular and next-gen back seats. You should be able to find photos of next-gen seats folded down in another section of this forum (interior & exterior probably?).

Thanks Cynix, I found this one demonstrating it, and he says he doesn't see what the fuss is about.
Folded Next Gen Seats (and leather))

Still building your car I presume? I bet you can't stop thinking about it. Will be nice when it is in transit. Nicer still when delivered and all is well with it. Right behind you mate. (In the queue as well as in wishing you well!)

That's the photo I was referring to. I've ordered next-gen back seats too and I'm not worried about foldability at all. However I've seen some people commenting that it's harder to slide across the bench to get in/out due to the raises bolsters. This might be a point of concern if you expect to have elderly passengers often.

Yep still building. Should take about one week according to mhh? I think your car will go into production just as mine comes out of it. They'll probably end up on the same boat though :)
