Tracking Multi-red production and sequencing

I spoke with Tesla today AND went on a factory tour. I've added the third row seats to my order. I was told, in writing and by phone, that it would not delay my order in any way and that I would still receive the pre-increase pricing (I finalized in mid-January). I need to run to a meeting, but I will post here later with more information, but the bottom line is that despite trying really hard I was not able to get anyone to tell me anything about red. Nothing new about timing, or why they can't produce Red today, etc., etc. Because I was able to change my order today to add the 3rd row I think it's likely red isn't going into production until at least mid March, if not later. But I could be wrong (I hope I am.) I also think that if it was going to be early March that someone would have been willing to say SOMETHING, but everyone held to the party line "In March". I did not see one red car, in the factory or on the test track. The delivery specialist giving the tour said he had only ever seen *1* red car - a demo/press car.

The lack of new information is disappointing but thanks for digging. I asked my wife if we should add the jump seats for our 6 year old twins and she agreed that our initial config without them still made sense. We didn't hold the price line anywhere else on the car but finally succeeded with the jump seats!

I did talk to the factory today regarding the debate about the actual shade of red, etc. The HQ product specialist said she does have a set of 'official pics' she offered to send, along with a pic from the Detroit Auto show. I copied them below, so we can drool while we wait....

My sense is that Tesla may be thinking about making a big deal about RED being in production and are looking for an event to announce that they are now in production thus driving market anticipation and buzz vs. just a routine notification to us in the wait list.

I heard second hand (original source paint guy at Tesla) that the reds would start appearing in production early March i.e. this weekend. so let's hope some of us start getting delivery windows soon.

Hope you're right. I was thinking that if production starts before mid March some of us may be getting delivery notices next week.

In this photo the red is stunning.

Think the original source was wrong.

Sorry artsci, not trying to be a pessimist just a realist. I could definitely see a scenario where 5 or less are painted by the end of March, but "red production has started" is declared. :frown:

i just added data to spreadsheet, but how do you find your sequence? I recall that it was on your dashboard on teslamotors.com but no more, and I don't see it on any of my paperwork, although I do recall it was something like 12,xxx.

I'm beginning to think you're right. Monday has come and gone and no notices. So I think at least another week will go by before anyone hears.

Anyone get a notice? I re-finalized today after adding the jump seats. I'm crossing my fingers that I didn't lose my position in line (Tesla said no delay by adding the seats, but we know how that goes.)

I hope I don't put too much of a damper on hopes for an early start of Multicoat Red production, but I still have not seen any proof that the original story is not true: that Multicoat Red production will only start after all Signature Red cars have been finished. I don't know if this has to do with the paint stations, or something else, but this is what we were being told by Tesla last year.

This is in line with the predicted start of European Signatures production in March (confirmed by Tesla last month during the European Get Amped Tour) and the predicted start of Multicoat Red production in March. If they produce and paint all European Signature Red cars, probably 30 tot 50% of the 500 cars, in succession this will take 2 tot 4 days. They can then switch the paint station to Multicoat Red. The only problem: at the moment European Signatures are still being finalized and Signature Red can still be chosen. This process could still take a few more weeks (as everyone has one month to finalize). So we could be looking at early April for Multicoat Red production to start.

That would be a setback. But look at it this way: Multicoat Red cars will be delivered in April (and not later than May). European Signatures will only be delivered between June and September (as S283 I got a delivery window of July-August).

Groan.

Just one problem with that. As noted before, Asian signatures won't finalize until the end of the year.
