US Market Situation and Outlook (Rob Stark's American Megathread)

Underlying this all is the lack of willingness to acknowledge the human impact on the environment and to do something to alleviate the problem. We aren't willing to sacrifice cheap and easy for the public good. We've been spoiled.
Agree, there was a YouTube reviewing sustainability with mid west usa farmers and from their perspective they don’t care
They don’t see the environmental impact yet or at least admit it’s us
And gas/diesel is cheap, $2.50US per gal

I get sick when looking from my Tesla, the smoke coming from a PHEV tailpipe
This new version of PHEV is just a weird way of continuing the bad impact on the environment
We need pure EVs
That's an extreme emotional reaction. Here are the facts.
1. We don't have enough batteries for 100% BEV today
2. We won't have enough for 100% BEV next year, or the year after or is 2030
3. Until then, properly used PHEVs can transition miles from gas to electricity 3-4x faster than commuter BEVs

The vast majority of PHEVs are used properly, of course. But bad policies can give people the wrong incentives, as happened previously in Germany where they subsidized low-range PHEVs for executives who had corporate gas cards and no place to plug in. That went exactly as you'd expect.

And anyone who claims they're saving the planet by commuting in a 7000 lb Cybertruck instead of a Prius Prime is simply a liar.

Using a PHEV means only driving on battery most of the time and plugging in nightly.
A recent study showed PHEV drivers drive too far and never plug in.
Hate hybrids
Keep using old ICEvs until not useful
Only buy pure BEV
Or walk ride a bike
Don’t by new PHEV

Why one cannot get a good sample size of owners through non-Tesla channels? There are many ways to do a valid survey and verify ownership without Tesla providing the data IMO.

They don't ask Tesla to provide data.

JD Power gets owner addresses from State DMVs to send them their survey. California and many/most State DMVs require the OEM to sign-off on giving JD Power access to a list of their owners in various States. All the legacy OEMs sign-off but Tesla blocks this access. I am not sure about Rivian and Lucid.
