What the hell has happened to Autopilot?

Hi people!
Sorry for bumping up an oldish thread. Yesterday I used AP on the motorway for the first time since months. It was a busy afternoon, lots of stop-and-go traffic. I remember the car being smooth and smart about these situations in particular (I tend to use AP mainly for stop-and-go situations).
Well, yesterday it performed horribly.
After a couple of abrupt brake-and-accelerate sequences I had to turn AP off and hope the sea sickness it just caused me would alleviate by the time I arrived at my destination. It didn’t.
Is it only my car still being this bad at it? Is there any particular SW update which helped with this?

I think pure-vision caused this. Agreed autopilot has gone back in usability over the past few months.
