Who has done their own LTE upgrade?

I would love to upgrade my 2014 3g to LTE. Has anyone done this on their own after buying all the necessary parts from Tesla? How does the new sim card get activated? I'm not afraid of taking apart the dash and figuring that all out, just wondering if anyone has had success doing this. Thanks.

Yes, I bought a used MCU and just swapped out the GSM card. Works automatically, although with a different SIM card I have the 'phone number' of the replacement card.

No repercussions.

I say this as someone who days ago did the rear brakes and parking brakes on my 2014 P85, and yesterday received a new washer pump I will likely swap on Monday.

Advertised price at Costa Mesa is $550+tax. I paid $367 just a couple of months ago.

$500 plus tax is what was quoted at my local service center. Seems a bit pricey for $100 (i think) in parts. I can find time to take apart the dash so that's not an issue. I'm really just curious as to how purchasing my own parts would work (if Tesla sold them to me). Its a sim card, so there has to be some sort of activation once I install it.

I’m sure a mobile tech can do it. Only requires removing MCU which mobile techs have been doing.

I don't think this even requires a different sim card, you're just replacing the removable cellular card on the MCU board.

If you're upgrading the old 3G board to an 4G LTE one, your old SIM will only be capable of 3G access.

Contact the rebuilders/modders. One of them has got to have a dead MCU with the LTE board.

It is pretty simple to install the LTE upgrade onto our cars. Just takes about 1.5 hour to do. Parts are around 150 at the SC but I heard that they are not allowing us to buy the SIM card anymore. We still have 4 SIM cards on order with SC for some of our friends and family's cars.

yellow sim and non gold chip on modem is 3g, white sim and gold chip on card is lte.
