    Time-Based Control?

Mine did some pretty weird stuff today too. It stopped using energy from the Powerwalls during my peak period even though there was ~50% energy remaining and my reserve is all the way down at 25%. Then it even charged them up a little during peak. After the sun went down, it started using...

    Time-Based Control?

I'm still waiting, but my install just finished on the 23rd. When I called at the end of last week, she said they couldn't give me a date it'd be sent to me, but that since I'm in California I'd have priority and that she expected it to be a matter of days, rather than weeks or months. Maybe...

    Time-Based Control?

Twinsies from the other side of the planet! I just got my 2 Powerwalls installed today too! :D I also don't have ToU yet on 1.15.10 and 3.3.6 on Android. Sorry I don't have an answer to your question.

Time of Use Power Shifting for Powerwall 2

Just got my 2 Powerwalls installed today. I'm not able to set them to the new TOU modes, only Backup or Self-powered. Anybody have any idea why that might be before I call Tesla tomorrow? The Powerwalls are on version 1.15.10 and my Android app is version 3.3.6, which according to Tesla's...

Braking distance concern by Consumer Reports

Yeah, I just wish he handled everything like this rather than the way he's handled some other criticism lately.

    $78k PM3 AWD

Yeah, I was expecting bigger brakes and better suspension for that price. $20k extra is a lot for going from 4.5 down to 3.5 seconds 0-60, some big wheels, and a carbon fiber spoiler. I don't think it's worth more than a $10k premium. I was fully expecting to buy the P3D, too. I also don't...

Braking distance concern by Consumer Reports

Ok, that was my mistake then. I didn't know where the Porsche track was, but knew Edmunds is in LA. When you said Carson, I was thinking it was tested in Nevada, but that's Carson City, so I was figuring the A4 and BMW were tested in LA and the Model 3 in NV for some reason. I would say the...

Braking distance concern by Consumer Reports

Are those numbers under the same conditions and on the same piece of pavement? CR tests showed 132ft for the 3-series and 135ft for the A5. Their initial 60-0 with the Model 3 was 130ft. MotorTrend's Model 3 stopped in 119ft in their test.

Changes to invite priority, now only effected by date/time of reservation

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about this exactly. I could not have waited in line if I wanted to (and probably still wouldn't have), but I ordered online pre-reveal and have owned my Model S for almost 5 years now. I've been supportive of the company for a long time, though not as long as many...

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

Then why don't LMP1 cars go smaller than 18"? They, like Formula 1, are prototype cars and they can design the brakes to accommodate smaller wheels. They can go smaller than 18" if they want, but they all run 18's. The only car in recent years that I can remember that didn't was the Nissan...

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

The real reason the teams don't want to change is because it would require a complete rethink of the design of the car, much bigger than the change we had last year. ~50% of the car's damping ability currently is through the sidewall of the tire, with the suspension itself handling the other...

And better fluid. Wouldn't be surprised if the fluid was boiling in the car that did the laps around Laguna Seca.

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

Because the rules don't allow anything else.
  14. G

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

Yeah, I think a lot of people like to use racing series as examples, but they tend to have regulations that restrict wheel size. Formula 1 restricts to 13" wheels. World Endurance Championship restricts most classes to no larger than 18", but they can run smaller than that. I think they all...

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

I really think everybody who's gotten an invite already will get the config page when it's up and that they'll handle the delivery order from there based on the invite dates. I don't think they want to start over on the invites and potentially upset people who've already been waiting over two...

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

This is my guess too. They already asked the EPA to rate the RWD LR at 310 miles instead of the 334 like they were going to. Elon has said in the past that the Model S will always be the fastest, have the longest range and the most features. That 334 number was way too close to the 335 you...

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

Can anybody explain what this line in Elon's tweet means exactly? "Performance drive units are lot sorted for highest sigma output & get double the burn-in."
  20. G

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

Glad you quoted his prediction, because otherwise I was going to. Elon is notoriously optimistic with timelines and I doubt even the biggest fans would deny that. But when he gives a short timeline like this one ("the end of next week"), they tend to be right.

How long to adapt to EV driving style?

There's no reason anything unsafe should happen from the regenerative braking. At worst, you'll stop short of wherever you intended to and might feel a little embarrassed. It took me two stoplights to get used to the idea. I felt a little dumb with the lady that came with me on my test drive...

Buyer beware. Buying a CPO Tesla feels like a SCAM.

My headliner is like this. It's just that the seal gets pushed back a little. When I told the service center about it, they said it's because it's a "floating seal" and basically pulled the door seal back over the top of the headliner and it looked normal again. Seems like a poor design, but...

The "Is Tesla Going Bankrupt?" thread

Tesla has enough employees to do so. Why couldn't the new company? They could even retain the current employees and continue business as usual.

The "Is Tesla Going Bankrupt?" thread

Not only is betting on failure unsavory, but you can be right all day long and it doesn't matter if nobody else realizes it. The Big Short shows that very well. In addition, investing long has a theoretically unlimited upside and a limited downside (you can only lose 100%, assuming you aren't...

The "Is Tesla Going Bankrupt?" thread

An unfortunate effect of short-term trading in a volatile stock, I suppose. Thankfully, there are only a couple of odd peaks outside the past year where the stock was higher than it is today. I think people will still be served well by buying with the intent to hold for a long time. If people...

That's a nice cherry you've picked. Let's also not forget that the share price 5 years ago was ~$40, about 15% of today's close.

Things you may not have discovered about your Model S?!

The keyfob is not terribly delicate. I'm actually surprised that so many people want to put cases on them, but then again I've never been a fan of having a case on my phone either. I've had the covering wear out on my keyfob around the buttons, but didn't find it to be a big deal. It just...

Things you may not have discovered about your Model S?!

I thought I defined it pretty well in my post when I said "it always shows my car pointing the right direction rather than the direction it was last traveling". The behavior you're describing is the exact opposite of what I've experienced. - - - Updated - - - People seem to think all the...

Things you may not have discovered about your Model S?!

Unless I'm missing something, I kinda think it does have a compass. I back into my garage at home and if I look at the map in the app on my phone, it always shows my car pointing the right direction rather than the direction it was last traveling. Then again, it might just be flipping the...

Drop-In Center Console now in the Tesla Model S online store

Is it possible to flip the micro USB connector 180 degrees? I have a Nexus 6 and their micro USB connector is backward from every other phone I've had. The wide part is on the screen side. I hope the question makes sense.

    Model S - Window Tinting

I didn't get my Photosync at Premier and I paid basically the same price. The price isn't because of the shop, but the more expensive tint. It's well worth the money for the superior heat rejection. If you can't quite justify the money, there's the lower end tint by the same company that...

Does anybody have a picture yet of the Piano Black center console inside a car with Obeche Gloss?

    Decreasing rated range.

Yeah, I didn't regain anything during my road trip to Minnesota during Thanksgiving last year either, and with my 60, charging to 100% and discharging down to 0% was pretty common.

    Model S - Window Tinting

You're going to love it. :)
  36. G

What should my ideal charge percentage be?

What TexasEV said. To answer your last question, batteries are capable of discharging at a higher rate when they have more charge, so at a full charge it will accelerate the quickest. You probably won't notice much difference, though, until you get to a very low state of charge (<10%).

Drop-In Center Console now in the Tesla Model S online store

The center console felt plasticky and you still want to order it? Or did you mean the Evannex felt plasticky? The Tesla one will be back in stock at some point, so that's really your only option if you don't want the Evannex (I don't either).

Drop-In Center Console now in the Tesla Model S online store

    Tesla Supercharger network

    Tesla Supercharger network

One of the Superchargers in Colorado (Glenwood Springs, I believe) has big blue squares painted with an EV charging symbol in each space. It looks like a handicap parking spot at first. I imagine that's pretty effective.

    Supercharger - Inyokern, CA (4 V2 stalls)

There are so many factors at play here that it's anybody's guess. It seems getting the transformer installed tends to be the most common delay once construction has begun. I wouldn't count on being able to use this on Thursday if I were you.

    Model S - Window Tinting

Didn't have any issues getting my windshield tinted. Have you actually had tint shops tell you they won't or just assuming they won't? Lots of other people on the forums here in CA have done it.

    LTE Hotspot Tethering Performance?

Yeah, that's what's really making me consider the switch. John Legere has been doing a lot of really cool consumer-minded things. Verizon, in my many interactions with them, have shown a lack of caring for the customer on so many levels and assuming people will just stick around because of...

    LTE Hotspot Tethering Performance?

I always thought Verizon was the clear winner too, but in my drive to Minnesota, my girlfriend and I found just as many places with AT&T and no Verizon as we did the other way around, if not even a little more, most notably in several portions of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming, all rural...

    Firmware 6.0

As jerry33 said, what you're talking about is stability control. The car knows the wheel speeds at all four corners as well as the steering input (and thus, where you're trying to go) and can adjust power to any given wheel to get the desired affect. Most new cars have this capability these...
