My S May Have Just Saved a Life

I just had a very scary situation. Driving north on highway 36 out of Tooele, Utah earlier this morning all seemed fine for a 1:00 am drive. But suddenly the car (which I had operating on Autopilot) gave me a Take Over Immediately message accompanied by a loud chime while braking itself hard...

    Car Not Sleeping. Ideas?

December 2016 S with full self driving computer always seems to be "Online". Unlike the newer S (December 2019) it shares the garage and wifi with which does sleep. I tried doing a scroll wheel reset and turned the car off and on. Thinking it might be the fob I wrapped both sets of fobs in...

    Prepay Premium Connectivity?

I am pretty sure I heard Elon say (a while back) that one would be able to pay for Premium Connectivity either monthly or annually. But looking at my My Tesla account I only see the monthly option. I'd prefer annually. Can that be done?

    10.0 (2019.32.11.1) = Alarm?

Has anyone here installed 10.0 (2019.32.11.1) yet? My S received it a couple of hours ago (surprised since I just received 10.0 (2019.32.11) only 4 days ago). It downloaded fine but 24 minutes after I started the installation the car's alarm went off. I shut it off with the fob and went to...

    Tesla in Hagerty article

Hagerty is an insurance company that insures antique collector vehicles. So kind of a surprise that they ran an article on Tesla. Pretty good article. The fun stuff is in the comments. Pretty obvious that many came from dyed in the wool ICEers. Promised $35,000 Tesla Model 3 is finally on sale

    Lovin' the SLC Service Center

My S is nearly due it's annual checkup so I checked the Tesla app and saw there's an appointment available Thursday morning. I'm not a morning person so emailed the service center asking if I could drop it off the afternoon before. Note that I sent the email two hours after they closed. 3...

    NEMA "15-40"?

I've been using a NEMA 14-50 per Tesla recommendation at home since I bought my first S 3 years ago. Always seems to work fine. But I just saw a YouTube video with a guy constantly referring to a NEMA "15-40". But all the images of the outlet in the video sure look like 14-50. I checked a...

V9's browser faster when car stopped?

Most here probably know that the browser in Teslas has been slow to the point of almost being unusable. But I've noticed a change since the latest update (2018.42.2). While driving the browser is still excruciatingly slow but now when the car is stopped it's much better. Even if just stopped...

    Vehicle avatar directly behind

I'm really enjoying v9. Especially having fun exploring and seeing what it will (and won't) do. Nice to be able to see avatars of cars to the left and right and in blind spots on the instrument panel. But vehicles directly behind me usually don't show up. Or if they do they just flicker on...

V9 on narrow, unlined, curvy streets

I've only got an hour or so driving with version 9 (2018.39.6 to be precise). As others have gone on about the new displays are taking a bit of getting used to. But there are a couple of things I'm really liking. One is that on divided roads that are not freeways the adjacent lanes are now...

    "Ludicrous speed" reference

Reading through the latest issue of "ars Technica Rocket Report" I came across the following article. Many here have probably already heard about what the article is about but I just found the reference to "ludicrous speed" amusing. No idea if they meant to say that as an homage to SpaceX or...

Great customer service at SLC service center

I stopped by the Salt Lake City service center Thursday about getting my S washed. Is this normal? (Destination chargers)

While I've been driving Model S for a few years the only places I've ever charged have been at home with a 15-30, at superchargers and off a 110 outlet. So when a local company I frequent put in a Tesla charger and another kind of charger I gave them both a try. I just figured the Tesla...

    Firmware numbers changed

Anyone else notice that the firmware version numbers have gone back to the way they used to be (without the long string of letters) on the Firmware Upgrade Tracker (Tesla Firmware Upgrade Tracker Web App) Not in the cars (at least not in my S which still has the long version), just on the Tracker.

I just opened the Tesla app on my iPhone to check on my Model S. The app is version 3.2.3 (34599d8f1) and I was surprised to find that if I swipe left a section comes up about Powerwall. Is this something new or just something I've not seen before? I do have a Powerwall coming someday but...

    Personalized charge alerts?

I plugged into a supercharger earlier this evening and immediately got the usual "Charging stated at..." message. But for the first time at the top of the message was my car's name. Same for the "Almost complete" and "Charging complete" alerts that came later. I looked back through other...

Who is my S talking to?

How to determine which Linux kernel?

I heard on the latest Ride the Lightning podcast (I highly recommend that podcast to my fellow Teslaphiles) that Tesla recently started updating the Lynx kernel from 2.6.36 to 4.4.36. How does one determine what version kernel their car is using? My car is on 8.1 (17.26.76).
