2017 VIN Model X Order and Delivery

Got the delivery scheduling call from my DS today and will be taking delivery on Friday 11/17, exactly 1 week earlier than expected.

Good for you!

On the other hand, this one’s a new one on me. I got a call from my DS yesterday morning. I thought she was calling me to set up a delivery date. Turns out that my X100D had completed production late last week, but had not passed their final Quality Control check. The factory decided to literally junk the car and build me a new one.

I was told that I would be assigned a new VIN, and I have, and that I would NOT lose my place in the production queue. They would “rush” the production of my redux Model X. I hope they don’t rush it so much that it too has QC problems. I’d rather they take all the time in the world to get it right.

My VIN has gone from 74*** to 78*** and my estimated delivery date has been pushed back one week to the last week of November.

The waiting blows, but I know it’ll be worth it in the end, especially if the Model X I do receive has virtually no QC flaws.

Wow kinda scary to think that they scrap the whole car? I wonder how this works. Good to know that they are really stressing the quality though...

Agent said upon contract signing December. After confirmation, February to early March. September 30 ordered, locked October 7. Tried to call agent 3 days after ordering just to lock the order, said he can't do it.

If it will be delivered by March, that will be half a year wait. HALF A YEAR jesus....

Wow my stomach is turning thinking about this. I'm having a hard time planning for a 2 month delivery. I don't know if I could even do 3. You are a very committed customer.

I wonder how this works too, because I am sitting here wondering if my X100D, which just completed production and is now trans-versing the country on its way to the east coast, got to the final QA and whether there was a debate "should we scrap it?" or "ehhh....errrrrr.... this should be OK let it through....welllllll...... nah just let it through".

I agree. It is good to know that at some point, the cars are inspected to ensure they meet some minimum standard of build quality. After all, it wouldn’t be a Tesla without some mis-aligned trim pieces and body panels, eh?

Buried in this Model X forum is a thread which makes for an agonising read: late last year, some man had brought his whole family to take delivery of his custom ordered Model X. In front of his whole family, he refused to take delivery because of some fit and finish problems. No problem, Tesla agreed to fix them and the new car delivery was re-scheduled.

On the second delivery day, the man brought his whole family again. Again, more problems were found, some of a rather serious nature. The customer elected to defer taking delivery yet again.

Third go around - I think think this time the man decided to come alone. More problems were found and some were never rectified. The very loyal but even more disappointed customer felt he had no choice but to cancel his order completely and request a refund.

In electing to build me a new car I believe it’s this type of hellish scenario that Tesla are trying to avoid. As a customer, I say so much the better.

Haha my 2012 has huge gaps between the body panels and the interior has plenty of things that don't line up. Still love that car!

I wonder if ours were in the same batch since my VIN was 74*** as well and it sounds like went through QC at about the same time. At least you know that your QC person was at least minimally attentive haha

Wondering if I could get some help here.

Ordered 10/19 which initially was given a Mid December delivery date. Now it's late December / Beginning of January.

Which I would be ok with but with the questions in congress about taking away the tax rebate makes me in danger of losing the rebate. And sadly my Delivery Specialist / Ownership Specialist / and Finance guys have been less in stellar in replying to me.. + all telling me something different.

Does anyone know if I can go ahead and pay off the car early? I literally got 3 different answers that all take 2-3 days to get back to me. I even had to drive to the dealership to get a reply after waiting for a week.

From the articles I have read this week it seems that the EV tax credit was rolled back into the tax overhaul (latest iteration at least). In the event that it is battled over I think it is unlikely for everything to get pushed through to a vote in the next 10 days (needed in order for it to take effect on Jan 1). I would say there's a 2% chance of the planets and stars aligning to have a new tax system by then.

Regarding your question on payoff; are you referring to payment on the car related to call the sale closed in 2017? For that matter it doesn't need to be paid off in 2017 to take advantage of the tax credit. Essentially you need to take possession of the car (there are many different ways to describe this but let's just take the operative definition; you give them a check [or sign a loan document], they give you a key and you drive away with the car, and they drive away with the check). Auto loans can be prepaid at any time without penalty so you can pay extra if you want. Lots of different strategies on loans/leases but I always go for the longest term loan and then pay extra every month to pay it off sooner. This gives you the option to make a lower payment if things get complicated in the future, and still let's you pay off the car at an advanced rate.

I'm sure your OA will be calling you trying to get you in a car by the end of the year. They will be under a lot of pressure to do so.

Picked up our 100D today VIN 74XXX no issues (other than tow hitch missing...). Went straight for clear bra and paint protection - Detailer even commented on the seals being better than usual...

Thanks for the info. Makes me feel a lot better My original sales specialist / owner adviser literally dropped off the face of the earth and was replaced with a new one after 2 weeks of no replies. The new one is helpful but has been telling me mixed information. He initially told me i can pay off everything and it will count as me "owning" it. So basically owning requires me to have the actual car in 2017.

I was just about to check that are we finally in production, but turns out the 'manage' button stopped working this morning (pressing it just reloads the current page). I guess this means that it can't fetch the car actual state, so is it finally about to enter production or is the car spec about to change? Anyone else there with the same issue?

Hi _jmk, you're not alone in this. It stopped working for me too!
