So Tesla has been much more on the ball the last couple of days. One of the local delivery specialists called me early this evening and gave me the straight talk on what's going on with the Model X's and S's:
1) cars are still being delivered to the SC locations, not being held in California, however...
2) they won't be delivered to customers until the software /firmware release comes out, so they can apply it to show the official new range and the Long Rang Plus model name, as well as update the Monroney sticker (the SC's have the ability to print them out). They want all recent purchasers to be happy and have an official record that while they ordered the "old" model, they got delivered the "new" model,
3) any X / S ordered "recently" is in this "containment hold" process, and
4) the current ETA for the software release is March 5th-7th (apparently they keep oscillating the release date between these two dates)
I feel a LOT better about this now. I also visited a showroom today (near the SC) here in Plano and one of the guys spent a good 20 minutes showing me all kinds of cool features about the X. March 7th(ish) can't come soon enough!
