We have a 5 and a 6 seater. I prefer the 5 seater by far.
No regrets here. I have wondered if at times if I should've gotten the six seater or waited for a seven seater. I like that the five seater is the most durable option. If one folds down the seven seater, I would be afraid of damage to the seat backs with hard braking. In the five seater, you have a traditional hard cloth back- zero issues with emergency braking as there is no plastic to damage.
The space has been far more valuable than the seats. I haven't had an issue with the HVAC; the five seater model X still has two more vents for the second row then the model S. Apparently the latest five seater has one "third" row vent that can be set to the passengers or cargo area.
I kind of feel the same. Six seater looks a lot better though....
Doesn't the new 7 seater also have cloth backs on the folded seats?
You would be surprised how much "stuff" I get in the additional space when packing to go south for the winter.Yes it does. With the new seven seater, there's hardly any reason to go to a five seater unless you want to save $3k or want the slight additional space under the false floor.
It's not just the weight of the seats, but the weight of the structure around the rear seats to keep the passenger safe.I am not sure we know what the exact weight difference between the 5 seater and the new 7 seater. I would assume that the third row seats should be < 100 lbs. Do we have any concrete evidence to prove otherwise?

If the third row seats fold down aren't the seatbacks of the second row the regular ones? No argument on the back of the third row- but with this row folded I think the 5 seater is better with hard stopping.
If this is a important factor in your buying decision I would go with a 6 seater. If space and utility are important 5 seater. We love ours but 2nd row passengers are rare. How does comfort of the second row compare between 5 seater and 6 seater?
