AWD delivery thread

@jelloslug,

So they let you look over the car without having to sign the Docs and hand over the check correct? I’m not going to do that if possible until I look the vehicle over. Some have said they won’t let you see it until you sign and pay to show its “yours” but how can you back out then. You lose total leverage. Others have said they let you look at the vehicle first.

@tpham07,

This is so maddeningly random. I've been uncharacteristically patient in this whole process, but I have to say that my patience is running out. I've gone WAY out of my way to stand in line to reserve, and then to submit my order immediately when available. And yes, this is a big, fat first-world complaint. I get that.

All around me (literally!) AWD's are being delivered. I was in a meeting with a guy just last week. I stood in line with him to reserve. I placed my AWD order three days before he did (mine on June 26). And of course he got his call, and took delivery... last week. Same car I'm getting. Lives in my town. We're both "non-owners."

I've got no indication of anything happening for my car.

Me:
Not a previous owner.
LR AWD, Blue, Black PUP, EAP, 18in wheels.
Cash, no trade-in. All checkboxes checked at confirmation.
line-stander, ordered June 26, 2018. Chose Fremont delivery.
And I live just an hour away from the Fremont plant.

My edit button disappeared the moment I confirmed my order. I've never seen it again in five weeks (so no, this is not an indication of imminent delivery!) If I use the URL given in this thread with my reservation number, it appears that I can go in and make changes.... but I'm afraid to, of course. I don't know if this is a legit way to change anything (because no edit button!) and I don't want to delay anything. Only thing I'd change is paint, but now that will cost me $1000 more... so no thanks. Maybe I'd change my delivery location. Because all the folks who I know who are planning on Fremont delivery are not getting them as fast as from other locations.... but delivery location isn't a change option as far as I can tell.

I had been patiently waiting for AWD to be available to order. And now I'm having trouble watching *so* many people around me taking delivery of my same car. Many of them reserved AND ordered after I did. Many live much farther away. How is this "based on reservation date, order, date, delivery location and vehicle configuration?"

OK. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I feel better. My bitching is over for a while.

I really hope you get your car soon because I've seen your little webpage for probably the past decade (been on that RAV4 mailing list too :p). That feels particularly wrong to have someone behind you get their vehicle first. I wonder if there is a problem with your order if you never had an edit button to begin with. I'd definitely call your ISA/Delivery specialist to see what the hold up is because I wonder if there's a flag on your account that prevents it from executing or something....(i.e. this GUY IS TOO MUCH OF AN EV NUT! SO MAKE HIM WAIT) lol...

First off, I am thrilled for all those who have been waiting 2 1/2 years are now finally getting delivery dates.

Second, for those frustrated beyond belief. I get it. I reserved about a yr ago. However, cheer up a tad. Tesla just registered over 10,000 new VINs for AWD Model 3s. I would put money on yours being in that batch. I spoke with Tesla a few days ago. Their advice, call every week as long before they call you, delivery agents are swamped to the point of quiting. Call them, they can look up in the database and tell you. That'll relieve the pressure.

It is my sincere desire to get an assigned VIN before the month is out. I do not begrudge you, those in day one lines, getting yours first. The rest of us...we've got your back. Having said that, I'd be pissed as hell if someone ordered a Tesla, RWD or AWD today and they got their delivery first. I understand why you'd be pissed if I got mine before you. I do get it!

Ha. Ah yes. If you're on the Rav list then you likely know me better than is healthy for either of us. :)

Hmmm. So how would a guy like me call his ISA/DS... if I have neither one? Isn't this something you get after somebody tells you that the car is about to be delivered? I've called the regular sales number twice now. I gave up after half an hour on hold each time because I actually do have a bit of a life outside of my second job of Tesla Waiting™.

With no referral benefit coming my way, I can't even count how many Teslas I've "sold" to others. I'd like to have my own now, please.

(Wow, reading your sig about the changes you've made... will you ever get a car?! So funny: AWD -> RWD -> P. Ha! Next you should wait for standard range battery!)

Don't call sales, press 3. And, the other advice I got...call at night as they are 24x7 and the long lines are during the day.

Hahah, I hope so, I just sold my Spark EV today (original delivery date was last Wednesday) and I'm driving a 20 year old gas guzzler! This will certainly stop me from future changes!

Definitely a no on the SR battery, this baby is going on road trips!

Seen several posts about “losing leverage” but I don’t really understand this attitude. This isn’t Slick Tony selling you a tv out of the back of his van. Tesla will fix the problems or assign you a new car, so what leverage do you need? Are you going to see the car you’ve been waiting years for, find some problems, and decide you no longer want a Tesla anymore?

I'm in the same boat with a friend that put down his reservation a month after me. Let's start a thread to tweet elon and tesla so we have enough likes to have it seen

Uh! I am not sure what that means..yes, I am familiar with google. I was hoping the subpanel feed from the main panel would support 60a such that I could charge the M3 at full power (48a). I did read where AWG 6 was pretty common for subpanel feed from a main. If I am reading this correctly it should be good for 100a. Yea! Does that sound right?

if it is 2awg aluminum (appears to be) it should be good for 100 amps depending on length. It is common for subpanels to be 100amp.

So, yesterday, I got a call to schedule delivery; will be picking up my vehicle next Saturday. Ordered AWD (non-performance) in MSM on 7/8. It all happened a lot faster than I anticipated.

I was a day one reservation holder, by the way. Don't know if that had anything to do with it, or if I just got lucky.

These are the most frustrating to those of us that have had orders in for months. Then we find people getting orders fulfilled seemingly wildly out of order. Certainly don't blame you. Enjoy your car but wtf Tesla

It’s clear order date has less influence over reservation date. He reserved day one. So I’m not sure this is a “WTF Tesla” moment given the batch creation of these vehicles.

Non-owners
3/31/16 6:30pm Eastern in-store reservation
4/10/18 invited to configure
6/27/18 configured AWD, red/black, 18” aero, PUP, EAP
8/11/18 edit design link disappeared
Preferred delivery location: Tysons/Tyco Rd.

It’s happening... :D
We loved it down there. 77-80 Reston, 93-98 Sterling
9/3/2017 - reserved
6/28/2018 - invited to configure
6/29/2018 - 00:03 - configured AWD, red/blk 18" aero, PUP, FSD
Closest delivery location: Dedham, MA

There is not enough data to make accurate predictions on delivery.
why? RWD stockpiled, delivered en mass 7/2018
AWD backlogged, transitioning from RWD to AWD, unknown backlog
presumptions: if they produce 5500->6000 /week they can deliver 5500->6000/week
Known unknown: backlog, if its 50,000 that's roughly 10wks
when will 10,500 fresh VINs be assigned. That represents 2 weeks of production.
to what extent have AWDs been under-promised and over-delivered, will 2 months really be 1 mo?
I expect backlog on AWD fulfilled in Aug. Ppl getting deliveries now reserved in late April 2016, this indicates initial bubble has been fulfilled.
I anticipate late Aug notification and early Sept delivery.
