9/6/18 - received email to choose delivery date 9/30 - 10/7, chose 10/6 Saturday.
No VIN yet, but my delivery date was confirmed.
My brother configured Red M3 AWD for Chicago same day, have not heard a word yet.

lol that's ridiculous
That's what I thought. They ask for reservation number at check-in. Which means most of these people have locked prices since at least June predating price updates. This is a bait and switch offer.

Aside from that, and the fact that my exact config was not available, the whole procedure is utter chaos. Some people are instructed to write down car vins they want. Others are told to grab the tags forom front mirrors. So you do not really know what cars are spoken for. And the lot is not that big to satisfy the crowds wandering around. Looks like a regular dealer event who are used to service five customers a day and which of course doesn't work.

Which is all ok if they explained that upfront. Now I have lost my Saturday morning and I am frankly a bit insulted by their lack of respect for my time.

You are thinking, they are a great company. People rave about their products. Their product lineage is unique. Investors line up to invest. What's not to like.

And then they do something like this.

Then the story repeats again.

Thanks for this. Very helpful. I have a weird deal. I’m driving from Chicago to Denver and back right before I trade in car. Wondering how this will sit with Tesla and hoping it doesn’t impact date of delivery. I’ll miss my manual GTI (especially revving engine on slow drivers!), but I’ve already moved on......
How do you get the link for the trade in info to be sent ? There nothing in my account.

IMHO people who think they know more about how a company does business than the company does is really delusional. But you be you.
Of course I do not claim to know more about how Tesla matches cars than those at Tesla who are actually doing the matching. That would be delusional. And your suggestion that I might think otherwise is nonsense. However, I have been told numerous times by customer service people (and now by delivery specialists) that reservation date and configuration date are both factors in Tesla's matching algorithm. Based on my review of the posts on this board, many others have been told the same.

You are not Tesla, and the statements you allegedly received from customer service are not official statements of the "company." The fact is that you know nothing more about situation than others do. In fact, it is entirely possible that I know as much or more than you do, regardless of how many times you have called Tesla or how many hours you've spent posting on this message board. It may be that the customer service reps with whom you spoke are merely telling you what you want to hear to get you to stop harassing them. Admittedly, the same may have happened to me.

There is no question that different people have been getting different explanations from Tesla regarding how the matching process works. And given the anecdotal evidence that there are significantly more early reservation holders now getting their cars, it is IMO that it is wishful thinking on the part of later reservation holders/non-reservation holders to believe that reservation date is "irrelevant" in Tesla's matching process. I take issue with your suggestion that I am somehow delusional for holding that opinion.

Woo hoo! Originally scheduled for delivery on Oct 1, but just got a call from my IDA, said car would be done early and I can pick up on Sep 20!!

Details in sig
That's outstanding! I believe they will move heaven and earth to get as many deliveries before end of 9/30/18 as possible such that it is booked as revenue for the quarter.

I finished supplying trade-in info and Credit Union info so mine could come in the next few weeks as well. Here's hoping.

Hey all, I'm picking up in Boston on 9/21! I'm going to put 20% down and finance the rest, how exactly does Tesla let me do that? Do I bring two checks or can I put the 20% on a CC?
Payment info, courtesy of @MorrisonHiker

Here's the information on payment from an email I received yesterday.

Payment

Cash Payment If you plan to pay with cash, we accept ACH payment through your account the day before delivery, or cashier's checks made out to "Tesla, Inc." Without quotation marks.

3rd Party Payment If you plan to finance through a 3rd party bank

· Please upload your pre-approval details online.

· Once paperwork is submitted, and shortly before delivery, we will be able to provide you a purchase agreement to send to your lender. They will need the purchase agreement in order to finalize the loan on their end and release funds.

· Note: please be sure all registrants are listed on the loan.

Tesla Lending If you plan to finance through Tesla Lending

· Log into your Tesla and fill out the credit application. You can accept financing online once your application has been reviewed. This typically happens within 48 hours.

Credit cards are not accepted for final payment. Please bring your checkbook

I went ahead and changed my order to white interior. Perhaps I will get someone else's failed/rejected delivery before I die of old age.

So this is a good one.

I changed my order from black to white interior around 12pm yesterday, 09/07.

I'm out doing a bike ride today, get back, see voicemail time-stamped 01PM MDT from Tesla delivery advisor offering me delivery in Littleton CO as soon as 09/19.

I finally got ahold of the advisor and set up delivery for 09/21. No VIN was available, but he assured me I'd have the VIN 7 days prior to delivery. He confirmed I had no trade in, this was a cash purchase (he recommended ACH payment but I will probably do cashier's check to hold purse strings in case anything is wrong with the car), and he confirmed my interior choice of white.

I can only assume Tesla had a car produced sometime in the last four weeks that was unclaimed (hard to believe with this backlog), someone's financing fell apart, they had a car in need of re-work that I am now getting, or that they are really prioritizing white interior for delivery.

Hopefully I'll have my VIN soon, I expect a VIN in the 6xxxx range, we'll see if I'm right.

04/01 - Reservation
06/27/18 - Initial configuration - DM DBM, black interior, aeros
06/29/18 - Changed paint color to MSM
07/11/18 - Changed paint color back to DBM
09/07/18 - Changed interior color to premium ultra white.
09/08/18 - First contact from Tesla
09/08/18 - Delivery scheduled for 09/21 in Littleton, CO.

Awesome, congrats! With any luck I'll see you at the Littleton DC.

I give them 50/50 chance of successfully delivering that date, but hope it pans out. I just executed funding for my LS unsecured loan to be paid into my checking account on 09/14. Things are clipping along now.

I hope that others who keep getting passed up get their ticket soon, the current situation of early reservation holders still waiting seems completely unreasonable.
