Well, today was the day. Yesterday was the initial plan, but the carrier was delayed in Maryland an extra night. That meant my ride got changed into a one way car rental, but a minor inconvenience. In fact, once I did the paperwork the service center sent a guy behind me to the rental place (2 miles away) and gave me a lift back. Which was nice because I managed to drive right by the place even with GPS. I ended up following the Tesla into the rental place :).

The turnover was seamless. No problems with my draft and were happy to take a personal check for the balance vs. an ACH. No problems at all with the car. Paint was fine (at least so far!), the software updated, the phone app working, the key cards working, mats in place, no condensation issues, lights flush, panels aligned, and no issues with the left turn signal (which was specifically pointed out to me as I'd asked about it on the phone). All very important as I had quite the drive to get there.

Oh, and the navigation. On the way back there was a huge accident (the roadside signs made me aware) and the car automatically rerouted me another way home. That way gave me one fun, windy, road to play on conveniently enough.

Got home, gave my somewhat skeptical husband a ride. He took a turn driving a he had a huge grin on his face going on the onramp to I-81. Set my yet-unamed car into her charging spot and one of my neighbors pulled up and I spent a good 10 minutes showing off the car.

Excellent all the way around.

My cut and paste log:

Non-prior owner
Reservation: 5/30/2017
Configured: 7/19/2018
Blue AWD, Non-P, black premium interior, aero wheels, no EAP
No edits ever (but did hit the edit button a few times to check it out...never modified anything and canceled every time)
Delivery: Richmond, VA
Edit button gone/trade in and bank info requested 8/11/2018
Email on 8/14 for ‘car arriving on lot’ 8/25, and pick up 8/28. And Very Low offer on my car (offered 50% Kelly, 2011 328 wagon 92K miles)
Phone received phone call 8/15 to follow up the email.
VIN: never got the number, but it has moved on
delivery date: TBD
8 OCT called the 888 CST #, assured acct fine and expect end of month
9 OCT got called by SC delivery person and made appt.
Checked back 9 OCT and my account has appt listed and MVPA including VIN with 30 October scheduled appt listed.
15 OCT e-signed MVPA
Called SC 24 October, asked a couple questions and they said they were not 100% sure about the carrier's delivery
29 Oct called by Tesla to reschedule to 31 October. Transporter is still in Baltimore.

Easy as pie and (so far) looks all perfect!

  • Thanks for the update. I did not have a reservation prior so maybe that has something to do with it. I live in a condo, unfortunately no solar panels or power walls, figuring out the charging situation will be difficult enough!

I’ve been planning on adding FSD before delivery, I just wanted to make sure I’d get the full rebate with my trade in before I committed. Lesson is, I should have put the grand down years ago, but I do wish they were better at keeping us informed. I guess I’ll stop in the tesla store someday this week but I feel like I’m more informed than the majority of folks working there.
I think they throw darts when it comes to delivery. I had reservation from over a year ago which I am pretty sure didn't help me one bit. Although I had a potential delivery for 11/17, that's been cancelled and supposedly they will pull another one from production. Some people get them in 10 days, some people get them in 5 months. some people with reservations saw someone without a reservation get similar configuration car car from same delivery location before them. Only thing I see that is consistent is once people get their car, all is forgiven. They already have all my money, but they have my car too. My bad. My order date is excluded from any supercharging credit which I think is unfair when I see others that did get credit due to later order date getting their cars already.
Such is life. There may be a stray individual who ordered before me still without their car on here. THAT is insulting. Those people should get a bone thrown their way. I'll take one too if they offer but not holding my breath.

I was able to add a referral code at delivery. I have no idea if it actually went through, but they said they would add it.

I’ve asked my DA and the local delivery staff several times if they’d confirm my code got added. Everyone said they’d take care of it but I haven’t gotten a confirmation. I guess I’ll find out in a couple of hours when I take delivery. :D

So when I ordered I actually used a referral link from my friend that he sent me using iMessage. I opened it on my iPad and ordered. Now I may have had the Tesla site open before I used his link but I definitely used the link before ordering. Well, of course there is no record that I used a referral. I asked my DA about it and told her I used the link. She said she requested it be added (I guess she cannot do it) and I got the line about how this is not done past the time it was ordered, etc. So I am glad she requested it be done but she obviously does not believe I used the link when I ordered. I guess we shall see if it actually gets processed or not. I am not even all that concerned about the idea that I would get something, but I do want my friend to get the credit for the referral as he was very helpful and influential during the process.

Thanks cct3, agreed. It does seem random, and I’ve noticed these accounts as well. I’m hoping everyone gets their order delivered before the federal tax incentive is halved.

I plan on paying by check at delivery to avoid payment but no car. That situation is extremely concerning and you seem to be handling it much better than I would be! I would say that is borderline criminal, there are only so many configs... I don’t want to tread into conspiracies but that’s not a good look at all.

I know people are happy with the final product once the process is complete, hoping everyone here has that experience as well!

I also asked Tesla to add a referral code... and have a case number but still have not seen it show up as "done" or in my buddy's account. My home delivery is still a few days away...

I have a delivery scheduled for tomorrow evening. I have MVPA with the VIN. But I haven't got a call from the Mt.Kisco delivery center yet. I heard that there will be call to confirm the details. I live in CT. Should go there tomorrow even without a call from Mt.Kisco?

I would reach out to the delivery center directly if you don't hear from them soon - hopefully you will be able to get someone to answer the phone.

I imagine when you don't control all the delivery from factory to delivery center getting cars to certain locations can be an issue. Suspect Tesla has to book space on trailers and trains just like every other business out there. And those probably only have so much capacity. And many locales probably require more than one method of transport so coordinating different sources.

As a Bay area Model 3 owner, I can tell you that just being within easy driving distance didn't prevent us from getting 2 calls to set up delivery and it didn't happen until the 3rd. This was during the Sept rush.

I haven't posted before or followed this thread to any large degree. My story:

No reservation. Ordered 10/24 at like 10pm Central. Delivery scheduled next day for 11/15. IDA was in contact daily. MVPA finalized around 10/31 (don't recall exact date offhand). Delivery offered for 11/3 - unfortunately going to be out of town. Rescheduled for 11/8 due to work conflicts preventing earlier pickup.

With all the horror stories I was curious if my car was actually in town and could have been delivered tomorrow (it's now 10/2). Stopped by the delivery center today and found my VIN on the lot. Not detailed yet but couldn't find anything wrong. Kicking myself for not trying to make earlier pick up work, but it's just a week.

Interestingly, I hadn't seen previous discussion on this, but my car does have a dual motor emblem on back.
