I am absolutely gobsmacked at this price! Any suggestions to have this fixed in another way? Does anyone know if someone outside of Tesla will do this or if there’s a way to see what they are charging in other areas? I’m in the sf bay area and I’m feeling very price gouged

Come to SLC Utah, they covered mine. Would be worth the trip if they’d cover it for sure

post in Salvage thread. lots of ppl doing it there after accidents n out of warranty.
It's a simple swap if u buy the fuse. used ones on eBay are like <$100

Just popped up on my 2015 MS 85d today. Tesla service quoted $243 to fix, plus another $20 for hatch drain retrofit. Much better than $11k.

Subscribed for additional information. I got this today also on my 2014 P85D. If Tesla will do this for $243, that sounds reasonable but i generally like to DIY.

I just received this message as well. Went to the SC and got a quote for CAD441 including taxes. In their service manual it shows this first alert shows up 6 months before “failure”.

MS 85D 2016 here, and received the "Battery fuse requires replacement soon" yesterday too. This can't be a coincidence!

Have raised a service request on the app, let's see what they say.

Assuming we all have the fuse with the battery built in, I suppose it could be a case of them all reaching a certain age which triggers the warning, rather than the actual health of the part.

Exactly.
The original overcurrent sensor/pyro fuse was powered by a non-replaceable non-rechargeable pair of batteries with a finite service life. It has no communication with the vehicle, so the car's software has an expiration date it is tracking.

The new version is self powered by the tiny voltage drop across the sensing element.

The service manual calls out dropping the pack. Plus you are dealing with the main high voltage high current circuits. $243 sounds like a great price (and I DIY my ICE cars).
