Darn! I just received my orange stickers today less than 2 weeks from the end of the year. I wonder if there is anyway to return the orange ones and get blue onesIt's blue for 2021!

Doubtful. IIRC, I've seen some verbiage from them (might've been in correspondence w/them) saying basically, once it's been issued stickers, that's it.Darn! If you cared about having an extra year of validity, you should've waited until 1/1/21 or later to mail in your application.

If I mail today it would be after Jan 1 it reached Sacramento for sure.. My 11.30 priority mail was delivered from L.A to Dallas just 2 days back.

Who knows it could be based on the postage date stamp. That is how they track bills and such where you sent it before the due date but arrives well past it without issues.

Mine is in the mail today. There is no way they will process before the end of the year, and the "blue" sticker is already announced. Those are the ones that will currently be going out. Usually you can tell when they issue it by the day your check is cashed.
I applied in nov of 2016 and didnt get until feb 2017, for some reason they sent me a renewal in 2020!!! I think it was related to late year application and new year delivery

I'm just waiting until January 1. It probably won't make a difference but why risk it? So I get the sticker on February 15th instead of February 12th (or however long it takes to normally receive them).

Yay!!! I guessed right! Now I can add some blue accents to my stormtrooper. Thank goodness it wasn't pink. The application still sitting in my glove box since July, waiting to be mailed out on 1/1.It's blue for 2021!
Just filled mine out and put it in an envelope. Looks like the fee is just $22. Not bad!

I got my Model 3 stickers last year about 3 weeks after taking delivery on Dec 24th (yep, I used my paper plate #). I mailed them on the 26th and got the 2020 (orange), not 2019 version, so I think you are safe. But if you want to feel better and mail them out later for pick up on the 2nd, thats cool too.
Did you use your paper plates on your application, or wait for the permanent plates/metal plates? I just spoke to a DMV Rep who said I had to wait 2 months for my metal plates before I fill out an application.Darn!
