Comprehensive USB Bug List

I find that when I've removed the USB overnight (to add more art) and insert it in the morning, after a brief scan it starts playing in the middle of the track it was in several days ago, rather than where it was when I removed it. Is anyone else seeing that?

I can then forward skip through the songs I've heard in the past few days, the sequence is always the same.

Well that is weird. I have noticed the same shuffle thing. To add to the weirdness, track starting over might somehow be related to trunk hatch opening. I got in and out several times today and the track started back up where it left off. But the one time I got out, closed the door, went to the back hatch to put something in and close it. The track started over when opening the driver door again. YMMV of course.

I just had the experience of having pause go away when I opened the door to get out; it started playing at that point.
Yep, I've been having this problem with the radio too (I'm listening to radio more now, guess why). Every time I open a door, the radio resumes playing. Yippee. I guess it must be a feature, because if it's a bug you have to ask whether there was any testing at all. :-(

I too have got my few wish list items off, but am instead taking the tact of reporting what I consider the most important bugs to my SvC tomorrow when I go in for annual service. I don't plan to be unreasonable or difficult, and only factually report defects like any of us would with a hardware failure, but I'm sure my Advisor whoever he or she may be will hate me as they can't do anything about it. From my POV, the report at least becomes an official part of my service record that way, and may send the message about defects via another route for whatever value it may or not be. ;)

Appreciate you taking the lead on this. Sent Tesla a note this morning with your list plus added XM comments:

Current XM Radio UI is sub-optimal.
  • I would be great if channel number, channel name and what is currently playing/artist on that channel is listed.
  • I’d recommend that you give the user an ability to change view to see either artist, what’s playing or channel name (BMW has that capability now).
  • If you can add time shift capability it would be appreciated as well (you are on the channel and you can go back for a certain period of time).
  • Since there are numerous XM channels providing a way to skip down would be important.
    • Perhaps an accessible tab that would take you directly to 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 ,175, 200 channel numbers and from there the user could fine tune to the right channel.

FWIW, I just returned from dropping off my MS for it's first annual service. As it relates to this thread on USB 8.0, I have (amongst others) on my Service Invoice the following most important problems (edited for brevity):
  • Excessive USB scan times for devices with larger numbers of tracks (they have both my 1100 and 6100 USB sticks)
  • Media Art not always displaying
  • No alpha list for quick navigation
I'll post back with official response I receive, which may take several days. I was told "thanks in advance for your patience". ;) Another guy coming in at the same time as me was told his MS may not be ready until Friday or Monday. My SvC remains overly backlogged it appears.

Thank you very much for taking the time to send them a note. Again, this is one of those things where it won't get fixed if they don't know how many this affects.

Thank you for making it an official service visit. That is a great alternate direction to take this.

The media center is essentially unusable for USB. I get into my car after a short stop, then it starts re-reading all 7000 songs since it has lost the index or something. So, I decide to play music from Spotify on my phone. I get through a few songs that way, I am in the middle of one and the media center returns to where I left off with the USB AND won't let me return to the phone AND shows the wrong track information that doesn't pertain to anything I am doing.

8.0 Media is a sad train wreck all the way around.
7.x was sub-optimal in a number of ways but 8.0 is unusable. How did this thing ever get into release?!?

Please send servicehelpNA an email and mention this thread when you do.

Sigh I too am unhappy as my 70GOG playlist -- itunes (most ripped from CD's) I will need 10 minutes to scroll down to T for Tool to pick album. Than where before it forgot the usb connection maybe 40% of time, now it has to reload (takes 10 minutes) pretty much every-time. Sometimes it after another few minutes if i have radio on, it does find the album I was previously listening too, but again weird as it will jump freom a radio or inet tune to the album.. weird... Need more attention to usb

I experimented last night: turned energy saving off in display settings. In AM my USB drive was still loaded - no reload. Could a few others with reload problem plz try? I believe energy savings mode may be cause of car forgetting USB drive.

PS now seeing if also correlation to forgetting source or track position.

I have never used energy savings and I've only had the drive scan once, when i first plugged it in. 150GB, 11000 tracks. Also, I used scheduled charging.

I had this speculation too, a week or two back. After further experimentation, I found that even with energy saving disabled, I continued to have problems with inexplicable (and extremely long) rescans. Disabling energy saving was definitely not a fix for me. (Besides which, I actually want to save energy. Odd, I know.)

I sent your list to Tesla (all 3 address) as requested, with some added comments.

In return, I received and automated reply from Tesla Service saying that they would respond later (OK so far), and another automated reply from someone at Tesla thanking me for the "improvement suggestions." Amusingly, it was addressed to my spouse, not to me, so somehow their system understood my email as being from her. Not sure how that could have happened!

Hope they do manage to do something about the media player problems. Some people who don't use USB seem happy with the changes in streaming functions and I don't want those of us who use USB to get lost in the shuffle. Just going back to the algorithm used for USB in 7.1 would be a big help IMO.

I received the 8.0 software last week when I got back from a long road trip but I don't dare install it!

I can't get lost in the shuffle. I can't even get "the shuffle" to work correctly.
