Car goes in for 12 month check up on thursday. I'll let you know if i come out with 5.12 or 6.0. (my bet is on 5.12)

Heh, mine went in yesterday with v5.9 and came back today with v5.9 while the loaner that was delivered to me was on v5.12. I'm not sure there's a discernible pattern.

If it isn't phases of the moon and voodoo what am I supposed to do with all of these chicken entrails?!

Make chicken soup for your soul!

According to my service center, an upcoming software update is supposed rectify the issue with those various coolant pumps that are not communicating properly with the rest of the system. They told me two weeks ago that it was coming last week. Nothing happened. I wonder if they are alluding to 6.0? They are holding off on replacing my pump for now. They said it can be done at my annual service towards the end of the month, but they see confident that a software update will address the issue before then.

If 6.0 is approaching release, then it's in beta testing. When it appears depends on when it's stable enough that they can roll it out. That really isn't something you can do on a schedule, in my experience, unless you want to accept delivering software with known issues.

Now you have may some known issues that are minor enough that you can ship, e.g. there's an occasional display glitch that doesn't really matter. But if you're getting lockups or random behavior, then it can take some time to track that down, especially if it's hard to replicate. In that case you can have the delivery schedule slip by a LOT, and you can't really tell people when it will ship because you do not know yourself.

That's software!

Yes, but there comes a time when beta converts to GA. There is code freeze, and a schedule of a release. So, if you are one to two weeks away (as the previous poster suggested) you should have a predictable schedule.

On the other hand, I would think they would wait until after Labor Day as the news cycle is pretty unfavorable in late August.

Don't we go through this every time a new software release comes out?

People post unofficial comments from Tesla staff that the release will be out soon - followed by weeks of speculation and waiting - and the release usually takes much longer than the rumors indicate.

And then when new updates are released, except with the emergency release to disable the air suspension, Tesla tends to release it very slowly, in small batches, in an order no one has been able to explain - so there's an extended period when a few owners get the release - and the rest continue waiting.

And then we go through the start-stop release cycle. The release process is halted when a major problem is discovered - that problem is fixed - and then a new round of staged updates begin - and this repeats until the release is stable enough that everyone gets it.

Until someone can confirm they've received 6.0 - probably best not to put too much stock in the unofficial comments by Tesla staff trying to be helpful.

Maybe Tesla will surprise us this time - and add with 6.0 the ability for owners to request (or "opt in") to get the releases faster. Since some owners may be more willing than others to tolerate potential problems in exchange for getting the latest and greatest - really would benefit Tesla to give owners more control over the timing of when they can get new releases (perhaps as simple as a choice on the Tesla My Dashboard indicating if owners preferred newest (though possibly buggy) or stable (even if it takes longer) releases...

Awww come on ... it's entertaining.

If--and it is a HUGE IF--Tesla ever gave us the option to opt in, I would really like for them to publish the release notes so we know what we are opting in for. One of my biggest complaints is not knowing what I am getting when the notice appears on the MCU. Do I want/need what this release is offering? If not, I would just as soon pass until it is something I want/need.

It's only going to get worse as newer and newer owners who haven't gone through this yet join the forum.

While at the service center yesterday, I was told that 6.0 should be out within the next 1-2 weeks.

Per my service manager, the above is in the ballpark. He said it is expected before the end of the month. He specifically scheduled my annual service on Sept. 1 to allow the software update to resolve my coolant pump error. He also said that I will be one of the first to get the update, since engineering agreed to send the update out first to affected cars in Arizona. We are experiencing the highest number of coolant pump errors, which will be resolved in 6.0. He said he confirmed all of this with engineering, so I consider the information pretty solid.

That sounds pretty good, but I've got to ask: are you in a wagering mood???

LOL... I've learned not to side with Tesla when it comes to their own time frames. Let's put it this way... it would be a pleasant surprise if it actually happens the way they are telling me.

At the same time they told me about the 6.0 release prior to end of month, they also told me that engineering would remotely clear the coolant pump service error code so as not to be annoying. That happened today, error is gone! So at least part one of what they told me actually happened. Now I'm just waiting for part deux.

6.0 was going to be released before the end of a lot of months, I remember February specifically. I wouldn't plan my schedule around it.

On the weird-o-meter of Tesla questions, the guys at my garage (park during the day in NYC) asked about v6 when I dropped off this morning. Apparently they are Tesla fan-boys and heard it was coming soon.

Might be time for that valet pin feature request.

Talked to Service Delivery Specialist yesterday. Good news is delivery first week in September. Software version unknown until delivery. Waiting...waiting...waiting all is good 5.12 or 6.0 I still get my MS!
