Cybertruck Will Feel Dated By the Time it Comes Out?

In general, I'm fine and can appreciate the idea of a bench seat. But I view a truck as a utility vehicle -- one for getting jobs done. And the bench seat not only lets another person sit there if needed, but also it's just handy in terms of somewhere to put random stuff related to the job. I'm not sure that will be the case with most CT buyers.

I currently use a pretty old F-150 (like 1990ish) with a bench seat and think it works well. But it doesn't even have working A/C, so I guess I just don't care about comfort when I'm trying to get something done. Meanwhile, the bench just seems like a useful shelf that I can also put my butt on while driving. This is probably pretty far from most people interested in a CT.

Wait, people actually still quote Elon and presume he's telling the truth? Are we in 2023 or 2013?

I still remember when he said he had a submarine that could rescue some boys in Thailand. Those were good days. I bet if those buys had a Cybertruck they wouldn't have gotten stuck in that cave to begin with.

Something something Cybertruck.
Elon was correct. The media were wrong but never tried to write the truth.

Elon was correct.

Shilling for Elon much?
Elon had contributed ZERO to Thai kids rescue from the cave, other than inserting himself as a distraction.

The media were wrong but never tried to write the truth.

Elon had NOTHING to do with the rescue, though he tried hard to get a some attention (as per usual) out of a potential tragedy.
Elon wants to be in charge of the media, and will stop at nothing to get attention to himself to pimp up the stock price of his companies.

Recall, he is the guy who claimed "fraud is protected as free speech":

It was a long twitter post. I can understand people choosing not to read it.

Fascinating and well researched.

The cyber truck market is not (yet) the truck customer. In fact, the real immediate target is the soccer mom and dad. If you think about it, those people don't need a truck and will probably not get one but will get a Model X. Issue with the X is insufficient cargo capacity. The cybertruck so nicely addresses that issue that it's a no brainer. Sell the cybertruck to SUV buyers and create a new market segment, then grow it. Soon enough the truck buyers will hop on board simply because the overlap between SUV and truck will invalidate the need for a pure truck.

Except it’s poorly design especially the bed. Tesla is like 15-20 behind on truck bed design.

It’s not even looking like they are the leader in software at this point neither.

The Ridgeline is based on an SUV and it sells …. Barely….

Again, about the only reason to get a Cybertruck at this point is to make it a talking point at Cars and Coffee until it’s not. It offers nothing over the competition.

BTW, who do you think buys all those trucks today? Hate to tell you, but it's the soccer moms and dads.

Just take a look at what has happened to trucks over the years.

Good thing legacies sell trucks for all needs and base their SUVs off truck platforms and not the other way?
Obviously you don't like the Cybertruck and that's fine.
What annual number of delivered Cybertrucks would mean the CT is commercially successful in your opinion?
And do you believe it's possible the CT will ever be the leader in the number of EV trucks sold?

Success? It’ll reach Model S and X numbers. No, it won’t be the leader in number of EV Trucks sold. There is too much competition already and Ford/Ram/Silverado are in their infancy.

Again, is you want a talking point at cars and coffee or a billboard, then the CT is the only choice. Everything else, the others are better.

Traditional pickup manufacturers did some clever changes in the last few years. Ford cut cost and slightly downsized by using the F150 cab for the Superduty. And I think almost all designs moved the cab more forward over the powertrain for better weight distribution and potentially reduced length and weight.
