Discussion: Model Y General Waiting room for orders placed After January 2023

So, how does it work for us waiting … do you need to modify the order to latch on the lower price … would that change your position in line? For me, it would be $500 cheaper.

I believe Tesla honors the price adjustment automatically for people who are still waiting but it's good to text that number to be sure. Honestly have no clue if Tesla even communicates to their SAs regarding price drops and stuff so they may not even be super aware.

As for the people who already accepted delivery, no clue but probably SOL. That being said, don't regret anything or else you'll just always hate the decision of buying a Tesla.

I expect Model 3 RWD price to drop after the tax credit deadline which would make it desirable to people who didn't qualify due to income limits.

I also expect MY SR price to drop if they want to get rid of their massive existing inventory. Dropping the MYLR and MYP prices ensure current orders will not be cancelled and that they'll get even more orders which will help them in Q3 numbers as well.

I've listened to different opinions and even changed my own opinions on this over time, but I'm becoming convinced that these delivery schedules are largely, if not wholly driven by profit margin. At the current demand and production, it shouldn't take 3+ months to get a Model Y, but here we are.

At one point, I suspected transportation bottlenecks were to blame, but I don't see storage lots overflowing at Austin or Fremont. These 1,000+ Model Ys they're making every day are going somewhere.

I just get the dreaded suspicion that newer orders at higher prices are being prioritized and only if and when demand slows down will Tesla start delivering lower-priced orders that were placed from Jan 12 to Feb 4 which may not happen unless the $7,500 tax credit reduces or ends on Apr 18.

I believe Tesla dropped the prices too much on Jan 12 and they're trying to discourage those lowest-margin orders that are still outstanding by introducing artificial delays. From a profit standpoint, it's better if a low-margin buyer cancels their order so that vehicle can go to a higher-margin buyer. There's enough demand so that even if Tesla pisses off tens of thousands of buyers, there are even more buyers waiting in line to pay a higher price.

If I canceled my order, this would not be a "lost sale" because my vehicle will be sold to someone else. I would not be a "lost customer" because I was never a Tesla customer to begin with - I am only a prospective customer until I actually take delivery.

From a buyer's perspective, this is maddening, but to a for-profit corporation - it's just business. If I were Tesla, I'd probably make the same decisions they are - do what's best for the financial benefit of the company and its investors even if that means not gaining some new customers.

It's easy to think, "Yeah, but if Tesla would just deliver the car I ordered at the price I agreed to pay in a fair amount of time, I'd be a happy camper and would be more inclined to buy more Teslas in the future, but if they sit on my order in an attempt to get me to pay more than I originally agreed to, I'll take my business elsewhere." And, that may be true, but churn happens with all brands.
I wouldn’t. You are pissing off existing Tesla customers that are likely not to come back as well. You want to be the iPhone/apple of cars.

Definitely SOL for those that took delivery. I am sure there were not too many of them but that is life....sometimes you win...sometimes you lose.

What is the model Y wait time for Long Range (White)? I ordered in Late January. In early Feb. message said order to arrive late March then follow up said: March 27-30. On March 26 I got a notice Est. Delivery Apr-June 2023. Am I starting all over again??? Everything was moving forward to received in late March. Has anyone else experienced this. A new 3 month window seems to be starting over again? Is this normal? Suggestions??????

I just received the price drop ($500) from my Jan 29th order (not yet delivered) automatically from Tesla via email. I have a VIN and an EDD of 4/12 - 4/18.

In NJ, MYLR W/B/19, originally ordered at $53,490. Nice consolation for the extended wait time…

Got the same email. Did not realize what it was so came on here.

Now the price difference between the AWD and the LR is a more respectable $3k. Nice that you can see the specs now at Tesla's website. Everything is the same but the battery.

I just went to "Edit Design" on my order and Accept Changes and it shows the new price. Can't be sure but I don't expect it will delay the order as I've changed options back and forth recently and the EDD stayed the same.

Guess everyone is getting order update email with a new invoice reflecting the price drop ( I got mine with $500 price drop from my order), no change in delivery date though, hmm.
I did get a "Confirming your Model Y update" email overnight, but the price hadn't changed. Just manually did edit design and accept and it generated a new one at the reduced price ($500 less for me).

I'm excited as now I could choose another option and keep it under the $55k for MA rebate!

Unknown at this time for later January orders.. My EDD moved in a very similar way to yours. This indicates the EDD is not reliable and should not be used even though it's the only thing Tesla gives us.. I'm assuming June 1 but it could always move from there. Some folks are having their EDD change daily which is also agonizing.

The other annoying bit is when the vehicle comes in you have a relatively short window to take delivery and because you don't get reliable information it can mess up things like planned vacations etc.

I also received the email this morning. Thought maybe it was going to be about getting a VIN or a sooner EDD. :(.EDD unchanged. Inventory actually has cars for Jersey this morning, but all are with 20s and white interior. Not interested in them, so will continue to hope and wait.

Wonder why they are dropping the prices now?
Because demand is dropping again. Why else do they modify prices? Economics 101
