Don't test drive a Tesla . . . unless you want to buy one

Awesome post and it happened to me. I test drove mine and fell in love. Made a deal which ultimately fell apart badly based on my trade in. So, I walked away and I was going to teach Tesla a lesson. I test drove an E63, M5, RS7, GS-F. All great cars but nothing felt like that stupid Model S I drove months earlier. 10 months later I was back and my got my beloved S90D and I buzz around town with a silly smirk all day long enjoying this beast.

Now my wife is eyeing the X, to replace her 2016 RX350!!!!

At least us men, have an excuse... Fast cars boost men's testosterone levels: research

LOL!
I was wondering why I've been feeling my testosterone levels have been spiked the last couple of months. It appears I now have my answer!

Ok so this feels like a AA meeting, except our addiction is to this machine that after one try, your hooked.

I'll tell my story, maybe I'll get some support/sympathy....most likely not.

18 months ago, around the time of the first Model 3 revel, I started my research. It was innocent enough. News feeds, checking specs on the cars, what options looked like. But once I pushed the cash tab, like many have all ready stated here, I never spend that much on a vehicle. A few weeks pass, next think I know I am at my closest Store, which is an Hour plus drive from my house. I walk in greeted by the nicest people in the world wondering how they could help. I was not there for a test drive, computer research had reached its limit, I needed to see what this thing looked like in person. I sat in the showroom car with a product specialist for an hour or better with him answering my every question. On my way out the door, the only thing he asked is if I would want a bottle of water for the ride home.

Weird, no pressure to buy.

Two weeks later, My wife and I had nothing to do, so we decided to have a date with Tesla. We call booked a drive and arrived back at that showroom within a 2 hr window. I asked questions, more than the first time. He answered, I drove he explained everything. Once back at the store and all my question answered, He asked "would you like a bottle of water for the ride home".

Weird, no pressure to buy.

Once home, we told our kids what we had done. They were very disappointed in us. How could we do such a thing...without them. A week later I drove a Model X with the kids. With our bottles of water for the way home, we left with stories to tell.

So a year or so later, 5 test drives, counting Tesla on family trips, stopping at store when on vacation because maybe it is a bit different here. I placed my ordered on July 1. Confirmed on July 3. Production Aug 17. And in transit as we speak. DS told me today to plan for Sept 16. for Delivery Day.

Guess I will need to change my name here on the forum soon, wishin' has become a reality...almost.

The last few weeks have been the worst, but I can make it, I think.

Thanks for listening, best of luck to those that are just getting start it has been a thrill so far and I just getting started.

Welcome, Stillwishin. So long as buying a Tesla doesn't cause you and your fan to only eat Ramen noodles for the next six years, you will have no regrets. Enjoy!

Dude, these things are worth eating ramen noodles for six years.

Hi, my name is Stephen and my story begins about five years ago, when the Model S was just taking off.

Having no great income, I laughed at the idea that someone would buy an electric car for so much money and so few features.

Fast forward four years, I get a job paying a good bit of money, and the Nashville Tesla store sucked me in before I even finished moving to Nashville.

August 2016:
“I’ll just take a test drive and see what it’s all about.”

December 2016:
“Maybe I’ll take one for the weekend and see how bad it is on a road trip...”

February 2017:
“It couldn’t hurt to look at some CPOs...”

August 2017
“Hey, look, there’s a used one that fits my budget nicely... and another... and another... and another...”

September 2017:
“Oh, only $10k down? Awesome!”

These cars are like an expensive drug.
I had never considered spending $50k on a car, let alone a USED car.

I get to pick up Eleci Friday. Loaded mid 2014 P85 with every option except dual chargers.

That's how I look at it....Ramen noodles brings me back to my youth.

Congratulations on the Friday pick up. My delivery is set for this Saturday. This weekend is going to go by "fast".

I guess ramen noodles aren't so bad after all! I suppose if one looks at it as eat ramen noodles to drive Model S, then that certainly changes the perspective! :) But it is so true, once a test drive happens, it's like some voice gets planted in the brain wrestling us to submission till we snag the ride. I still giggle when I floor it in my 100D S and absolutely take off. So fun.

Buying a Tesla was not on my radar as they were way too expensive for my taste. When the first model 3s became available to The Chosen a few weeks back I got curious and went onto the Tesla website. There is a button to "Take a test drive" so I filled it out and forgot about it. I didn't actually look much at the website. It also happens that Tesla opened a showroom in Red Hook, Brooklyn on our way to the grocery store and favorite BBQ joint. If anything, I was looking at the model 3 as I'll need a new car in about a year to replace the minivan.

Well, about a month ago now, the rep called to schedule the test drive. I didn't even remember filling it out, but I figured why not? I started looking at the Tesla website and others, although this one didn't come up. I started reading everything I could. I saw that they accelerate 0-60 in 2.4 seconds. I stopped by the showroom a week before the drive and sat in one. I was hooked.

I went for the test drive after work. Forget it, there is no way I'm buying any other car, whether a model S or 3. That thing is the vehicle of the future, a rocket dressed like a car. Holy crap is that fast. He demo'ed the auto-park and back in parking, but couldn't demo the autonomous modes on the NYC streets. The highway nearby was bumper to bumper as it always is so we couldn't try it there.

I'm now curious about the pricing. I never thought I'd spend more than 40k on a car, but a model 3 with anything on it will exceed that price, a model S with every incentive under the sun plus a trade in would be even more. But to wait for the 3 means losing out on the fed rebate, while buying an S now keeps it... All I need now is to check the cushions of the couch for a spare 50 grand.

Join the club. A sizeable percentage of Model S and X owners (myself included) never thought they would ever spend that much on a car but we did it anyway. It's that good and justifiable. I was in the same boat as you. Most I ever spent on a car was $42K and all others were under $35K until Tesla came along.

I took a test drive in a Model S almost two year's ago and then stood in line for 4 hours early in the morning waiting to put my $1,000 deposit down on a Model 3 on the first day . Almost a year goes by and I got this itchy feeling that I needed to try test driving the Model S one more time. Shouldn't have done that.

I was hooked big time. I came home and that's all I could think about. Went nuts viewing every Model S video posted on YouTube. Finally the day of reckoning came when the final version of the Model 3 was introduced. I could not wait any longer.

Next morning I could not wait till 10am when my closest Tesla store would open so I could order an S. I placed my order on Sept 2nd. And as they say the wait is the hardest time. So I really need to attend a local Tesla Anonymous meeting. All I do all day when I am not trying to do some work is search through the Tesla Forums, Facebook posts and search for the latest Model S YouTube video posts to go up. This is definitely a sickness that no pill will help.

It appears to just be a matter of time! Find the $50K. It'll be worth it if you can make it work.

Ha! You'll settle in (hopefully) once you get the car and drive it for a little while. The ride is that sweet though. I'm sure the 3 will be sweet, but for those that want a little more luxury, faster ride, more storage, more tech, etc, thr S is the way to go. Which model did you order???

I have a Model S 75D on order. White exterior with 19" Grey Slipstream wheels, Cream Interior. Already bought black Lloyd mats to replace the cream color mats that come with the car. Should have it the first or second week of October. Still searching the web everyday for new YouTube video's.

Replace Lexus RX400 with Toyota Highlander and this happened to us. We head to the Factory tomorrow to pick up the X.
Sorry to tell you that you are more correct than you know... it's only a matter of time...
I skipped the test drive and they had me at 0-60 acceleration...... The OP is totally correct on the test drive point, which I enjoyed fully after pulling the purchase trigger. And at M3 handover, I got 2 test track rides in MS-P100D with pro-drivers. OMG
