The extreme left has latched onto the idea of a wealth tax on the richest people. They have been tried before and were a disaster and it would require a constitutional amendment to happen in the US, but a handful of people in Congress, most prominently Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have been beating that drum for a couple of years now. I think Elon is ticked off at them and is blaming the Democrats in general.
The proponents talk like billionaires are sitting around with 10 figure bank accounts and can just write a check for the tax. Elon is cash rich right now, but the vast majority of billionaires have the bulk of their wealth has never been realized. It's all funny money based on the value of their stock.
It's like my partner's aunt in her 90s. She and her husband bought a very modest ranch house in San Jose in the 1950s. I've been there, they raised 5 kids there and it must have been very cramped. It's been paid off for decades now. On paper she's a multimillionaire, but her only income is her social security check. Her kids kick in to keep her in her living there.
The house cost about $10,000 originally. She just hit the real estate lottery.
I know two guys who were accused in separate incidents of workplace harassment by women who were known to be kind of nutty. In both cases their managers told them that they knew it was bogus, but they had to investigate and in both cases the managers dragged their feet because they didn't want to deal with the mess.
In the first case the guy left a job he loved because of the stress and the other the guy had other problems related to having mild Aspergers and severe hearing loss as an infant (he wears heavy duty hearing aids). The second guy is an odd duck in the world, but he's completely harmless. The harassment incident combined with some other things where they didn't accommodate his hearing problems led to a mental breakdown and he retired early after being classified as too disabled to work.
